On most shows, his explanation of doing yoga with a bunch of 60-year-old ladies would be a one-time joke. In this show, it’s a legit part of his character that we actually revisit.
"Come on, I'm cooking for you" while aggressively taking her hand is one of the funniest scenes on the show
That one puzzled me too... i JUST realized, the last question she asks him before startin askin about why he was busy was: "Where are we goin for dinner", and his reply was "it's a surprise"... Dang this show is as smart as it is great!
Just imagining the scene where Roy is just eating crepes with a couple of 60 year old women and drag queens is infinitely hilarious

His character is what at first seems “ toxically masculine “. But it’s the absolute opposite, he’s extremely masculine but in a healthy way.

Nah, I don't think so. He stood up for Nathan from the get-go, and demanded respect to Ted from the team even though he didn't like him. He's just rough around the edges, but not toxic at all.

@@JosephOber Most men are not like Roy Kent. That’s why he’s getting so much praise. It’s rare to see male characters like him on screen and even rarer to meet men like him in real life.
I love that he has a circle of female friends cause they don't know he is a football star, they like him for him. also that he even goes out with them to help them with their problems but you also know if Marine husband steps out of line in the divorce Roy would show up at that guys door. really god help anyone who hurts one of Roy's yoga friends.

Pretty sure he was always planning to cook for her. She asks right at the start "Where are we going to eat?" and he says its a surprise... if they were going to a restaurant, he'd have just told her the place.
@@KS-xk2so no I don’t think so. They were all dressed up to go out for their date which suggests he was taking her somewhere. Keely is wearing tall black boots with heels. Those are shoes meant to be seen out and about. If he was going to cook for her he would have just told her to meet him at his apartment/house.

Brett Goldstein is Roy Kent. What he does with this character is subtle at times. He gives us that 3-5% glimpse of the nice guy behind the gruff personality. Not more than that. That is the perfect amount. Brilliant.

Something that keeps making me laugh about Roy's yoga friend group being a bunch of 60 year old moms is like- in football he's supposed to be the grizzled old pro. He is the elder sage. He is respected for having Seen It All. In yoga, however, it sounds like he's the youngest by A LOT, and the idea of the gals occasionally talking about him like he's a kid newly making his way into adult life cracks me up.
