#50 John Deere 3320 3033R Plowing with 2-12 Ferguson Plow

- Had some Easter weekend fun with Dad's John Deere 3320 (essentially the same as the Deere 3033R).
It was still too wet for them to be farming for real, so we decided to get out the 3320 and try it with the old Ferguson plow.
We never did get the plow adjusted perfectly. Watching the video, I think the right arm was still a bit too low. We lengthened the top-link until the plow ran relatively level from front to back, but it believe it was leaning toward the right a little bit most of the time while in the furrow. Honestly, we were enjoying it, and didn't pay enough attention to the detail to finish adjusting it.
The biggest issue is the physical size (wheel-base) of the tractor. Since it is SO short, the plow would over-react to any small change the tractor encountered, causing the depth control to be difficult.
Also, having the rear wheels set to their 'narrow' setting contributed to the same exaggeration if the preceding furrow was deeper or more shallow than normal.
I think the plow would be too much for my John Deere 1025R to be able to handle. I would be better suited with a 1-bottom plow ...if I needed one at all!
We had a great time. A good bonding time for 3 generations of us to "play in the dirt". My 83 yr old dad was having a great time. We didn't think he was going to let us drive!
I also included some video of a REAL plow (8-18 White 449). I have video of it in action from a few years ago. If anyone is interested, I can post it.
Other tractors making cameo appearances in the video:
Allis Chalmers WD-45
IH 706
Oliver 1950-T
IH 1466 (with Cab).
..and of course Dad's Kubota UTV/RTV

Really great to see your Dad participating. Reminds me of the days with my Dad running our old JD 2040 open station plowing the annual garden in SW Arkansas at the Peach Farm. Lots of treasured, golden memories!
I had a 2014 2025R. Had the same complaint with the diff lock location. OK for occasional use but when used constantly plowing snow it grew old quickly. Fun video for multiple reasons. Never had a plow for my small gardens...would have liked to try the two bottom but doubt it could pull it. Had a 54" JD 3 point rototiller that did a great job except for ocassional clogging. Enjoy your Dad as often as you can. What a nice family.
Always cherish time with the grandparents and mom and dad. Before you know it, they are gone.
You are correct. ...and we are trying.
He is doing a fine job and thats from an Irishman who ploughed lots of acres with a Ferguson 20 approx 22 horsepower 2 wheel drive it had the Ferguson depth control system which worked off the top link with weight transfer We later went on to bigger Hp tractors and up to 4 furrows likely to do real classy work you may need a depth wheel with that tractor but its fun to watch you bring a smile to an old Irishman living in the wilds of Western Australia
Thanks for watching. We were just doing this for fun. Had no need to be plowing that area. Just playing....to bring a smile to OUR faces!
plowed for over 51 yrs and now I find it wears me out at my age but still love it will be out plowing tommorro if it dont rain
Enjoyed the camera shot when you were standing on the plow. Been a long time since I have worked the soil. God Bless from Phoenix.
Nice job Tim. The tractor handled the plow perfectly and we always plowed 8".
Had 12' for the small tractor and 14' and 16' for the field tractors. The rule of thumb was always 8'. Then the chisel plows came out and we plowed 12" to break the pan. By the way, it doesn't hurt to chisel a garden every 4-5 years for the same reason.
We used to put old motor oil on the plows after we were done. Of course, all we use these days are chisel plows and disc harrows. I still see tumble plows in the irrigated valley though for sugar beets and corn.
Not sure if you all know how lucky you are, great video. Must have been great fun with everyone. The heck with depth, a couple of inches too deep is no big deal when you're all having that type of day. Hang onto what you have with the family, farm and equipment with all your might and thank God for the blessings.
+Jack Stonington yes sir, 100% agree. Of course, we were plowing just for the fun of it. Attempting to adjust the plow properly was part of the fun....then we finally got bored with that before we got it perfect! Wonderful day. I hope everyone can see how much fun we have together.
Tim not only did I realize how much fun you all were having I have to admit to a touch of jealousy and longing for the old days myself. I'm hoping to get a small plot going myself this year but don't think it'll happen. I'm getting on in years and the health hasn't been the best so seeing this got me thinking and maybe even feeling a bit sorry for myself but I'll find a way around it and The Lord will help me out with that by kicking me in the pants a few times (hahaha).
I hope you understand these videos your making have a pretty good impact on a codger like me so please keep them coming, your helping me out without even knowing it. (just subscribed)
Seeing the entire family getting into it with all the generations is a pure pleasure and seeing the tractors another big boost. After seeing this one I may follow up on getting another John Deere I have been considering...., I only have a couple of acres to play with so a smaller machine will do the job, I will have to see what's available in the used market first. Time to check out some of those other videos you made.
Tim - thanks, you're helping an old man in ways you probably can't see but believe me you are.
May The Lord smile over your family and bless your land. Thank you! :) ;)
Loved the 1950T Oliver. I have farmed with 1550, 1555 and 1800 Olivers, some of em brand new. Yeah, I’m getting up there. My granddaughter says I’m a geezer. :)
That is a pretty sight. Waiting on the disking. I'd love to see that 8-bottom turning the ground. That is a good looking farm. I wish our parents hadn't sold our farm. I'd still be doing it if they hadn't. Thanks for the video.
Tim just strated watching your channel I started driveing tractor and plowing the same time tractor was To35 ferguson and the same style plow your Dad was useing nice John Deere tractor very nice channel I look forward to more video . thank you.
+perry spradlin welcome! We've got 225 or more videos at this point. Make sure you look back though our uploads and playlists. This way you'll get to know us better!
Tractor Time with Tim Thank you have a safe harvest.
Why in the world would anyone give a thumbs down?!? I like this, myself. They had fun, but also showed how to plow. "Dislikers", you should be ashamed of yourselves. GOD Bless you Tim. You and your dad and family.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
when your standing on that plow, I could watch that all day.
+Joseph Renhack glad you liked it. I was afraid it would make folks dizzy!
I was growing on a farm and they have the same MF-12, but 3 plows, so I really enjoy this video!! So good souvenirs!
We had a lot of fun that afternoon. Good memories.
Thanks for the vid Tim. Coincidentally, I picked up a set of identical Ferguson plows for $200. I pull them b3hind a JD 4520. I was using them on an old pasture, and the unit kept clogging up. I ended up removing the coulters, and it works perfectly now.
Next some discing, then planting with the 2 row planter I just received from John Harris sales !
Hope to keep the deer happy, and coming back in November 😄
Nice video Tim, enjoyed watching would love to drive that 3320, funny near the end there I think your dad was hinting he wanted a snack and a Pepsi
+mrelectron62 Yea, around our house, that has always been the way to describe relaxation. "Pepsi" is equated to a few minutes of downtime and relaxation.
...we don't drink anything 'stronger' than that. ..none of us.
Super neat to use some of the old with some of the new!
I have a two bottom Ferguson plow that I pull with my Kubota L4701DT. I think is identical to the plow in this video. It appeared to me that you made adjustments to your linkage as you went along that you did not show in the video. It looks like you got it dialed in pretty good before you were done. My Kubota L4701 does not have draft control, so I have been thinking about adding a gauge wheel outside of the rear moldboard.
We did adjust off camera some. We didn’t get it perfect…we eventually got tired of messing with it. Was all for fun anyway! Plow has not been used since :-)
love to watch someone plowing. tim-at the end ur dad wanted a pepsi --man after my heart-good stuff that pepsi. next thing is-wow-what nice dirt-where are the rocks at-lol
Good job. We plowed many acres with a 1964, 2000 ford tractor pulling 2-14s.
"where we going to plow at?...." and the best response.... "there's 108 acres over here that need it"
Ones you dad showed you how...... great to see that... unfortunately i mis that 😢
I always love to plow.. my favorite hobby. With a Fordson Dexta 25 HP Goudland shear plow
Did a few acres whit it and later only small gardens.. now i use a little Farmax spader (49")
That spader looks cool!
That tractor looks about like the tractor I have which is a 3032E and I just received it a little over 30 days ago, and still getting use to it. I have a turning plow for it and my other tractor, and a middle buster for gardening. I also have a Frontier tiller which I have had for about two years and have yet to use it. I want to plant a garden and may have to wait until I get a cultivator also to use for clearing weeds out of rows, and to make rows.
+Sidney Mathious sounds good, Sidney. Looks like you are enjoying your 3032e!
That 1950-T was made for filling bunkers with haulage or silage. They used that blade to level it off. Would like to see more of it
This is a one owner tractor. It has never seen a silage bunker. The blade has always been used for dirt and brush moving.
We had a small farm in North Central MN. We had an old John Deere M, loved that tractor. I would plow our 10 acres with a tow behind 2 bottom plow, It didn't have the coulters so it pulled pretty hard in clay. That old M in 1st gear would pull it but it worked hard.
Back in the 60's, my dad pulled 2-14's with the 2N ford in 2 nd gear with 17 different types of soil in one small field. depth was 8" all day long. Your diesel should have no problem, if it can't do it get a ford gas. lol.
The hydrostatic transmission steals lots of power.
Also, the 2N is heavier, so that would help with traction.
Grab a hand full of soil and if it makes a mud ball its to wet.
I have a while video on that exact topic with that exact recommendation.
Shit that John Deere will walk all over a 2N. Any 2N.
Nice video good luck with your new tractor
I'm not sure WHEN dad got his 3320 w/cab. He has had it for several years. He traded a 770 Deere for it.
I own a JD 3320 with ROPS and turf tires that I use to mow around my poultry operation. Would have never believed it would pull a 2 bottom plow.
Didn’t do too bad, eh?
12:40 with all those accommodations it will be more like a mobile home 😂
For shame Tim!!!! Cheating on Johnny like that driving another tractor!!! LOL :) Just saw this video, my son and I love watching you videos. God bless
+Darrin Hart thanks Darrin. Have a few more with the 3320. There should be a playlist on our channel page
I am pretty sure that every old guy will always take a snack and a Pepsi
He from memory is correct there is a ratio dept to width of furrow , your upper link in a little short , nearly impossible to plough properly if boards are not cleaning shiny , properly set up that tractor would fly that plough We used to pull it with the little Ferguson 2 wheel drive no diff lock . But story the spuds never asked how straight the furrow was
Nice video! That tractor seemed to pull the plow no problem. I love that RTV too, that model 900 or 1100. They are so versatile with the dump and rear hydraulics and all hydraulic drive too I think...like the RTV better than the JD Gator. I'd be sitting in it with a Pepsi watching my boys too : )
Yall are very Blessed to have a Beautiful farm I would love to have a small farm that is my dream to have a farm
Would like to see the old 1950 Ferguson TE 20 Tractor working next to the new John deere 3320.
Nice Lil' JD 3320, Miss doin' gardening work with my Dad he had a Peewee Ford 2000, don't know what year it was
+Matthew Weaver yep. These memories cannot be replaced!
When planting a new garden where sod is, I always thought it might be best to plow and then rototill. I was never able to do that. Does that sound like a good or better way than just rototilling?
Nah. Rototilling is fine.
I would have thought that 3320 would handle a three row turn over plow with ease. That is what we used to use on a Jubilee My grandfather had three Ford Jubilee. I never got to plow with a Jubilee because they did that in January and I was still in school in January. About the closest I came was I got to pull a three row harrow several times. I will tell you the 3320 was moving a lot faster than the Jubilee would do under load. My grandfather wanted me to maintain 2,150 as much as possible, especially when using the PTO, so I was usually in 1-L most of the time. On my Ford 7740 I could spin up my 8 foot bush hog in 3rd gear, easily when I was not in big stuff or difficult terrain.
If you told me he was not your Dad I would not believe you, Tim.
That's what I have pull a 6'tiller no problem. I've had the tractor since 2008, been a great little workhorse.
Do the little lawn an garden tractors not have load and depth control the 20 series two cylinder's had that already!?
have wheel spacers on my JD 4052r ...wondering how you position the wheels and plow to get it right....also what do you do with a middle buster with wheel spacers...how to space the rows etc
we plow with 4x16" mounted half-turn plough. we plow with an 6125R it feels like we need atlest 2 more furrows
Yes, we pulled 6-14’s with our 105hp Oliver 1950-T, and 6-16 with our 125hp IH 1466.
...and we pulled them 8” deep 5.5-6mph. Acre after acre!
How does your dad like that 3320 I forgot to ask ya ? I’m looking at one I a couple days no cab loader, Gannon , brush hog, post, hole digger seriously considering it or a 2038 it’s so hard to decide are you getting that 3046 I think ya said? Wish I could get two lol ? The 3320 looks like it’s having no problem with that big plow it’s just motoring right along like nothing .Now I want a cab gets hot here in Southern California just a lot more $$ can you put cab with ac on a 2038 ? Also thank you for videos always great ...
I have a 3203 that I pull a 2-16 Ferguson plow and I have depth trouble too starting up a hill to deep and over the top down the other side to shallow, I’m going to put a follow wheel on it like the John Deere mounted plows have.
I think you need a gauge wheel too.
Needed to lengthen the top link to make the rear guide wheel do it's job to be the depth gauge.
Bet those are 14" or 16" bottoms. Never saw many 12s on field plows.
12. We measured. 2-12’s we’re pretty standard on those old Ferguson plows.
Where can you get replacement blades for the plow?
Would love to see more of that 3 series tractor. What kind/size disc would you use? I’ll need to replant a hay field soon with 3046r tractor. Looking to buy a plow and disc. Didn’t think it would do two bottoms. If you had industrial tires, do you think you would still have had enough traction? Good videos!
You need all the weight you can get. So, rimguard (beet juice tire fluid) in the rear tires would really help. The 3046r will have plenty of power to handle 2-12's. either need front weights or loader on for extra weight up front.
Thanks for watching!
Tractor Time with Tim Thank you for the reply. I have the rear tires loaded to balance for loader work. I have been considering getting some wheel weights as well. (It can get pretty light ripping out trees) I’m worried the extra weight will make it sink when I’m using it to mow. I mow my lawn with it. Do you know how involved it is to add/remove the wheel weights? I don’t plan on plowing too much. For the disc, would you rather have tow behind or 3-pt? Y’all be safe out there!
I also have a JD 5085M LP that I use in the poultry houses. The lift control system on it sucks. I had my 4 bottom turn plow attached to it Saturday and finally gave up on the Deere and disconnected the plow. Re-attached it to my NH 4050 and got the job done correctly. The lift on the NH is much easier to fine tune.
I havea3320,it’s great
do you think it was pithed a bit forward , and pull itself deeper ?
+theklrdude oo yes, we never did get it leveled perfectly. We were having fun, and got it 'good enough' for the fun
i have a kubota myself but that is a nice looking machine .
Cool video!
Welcome to our channel. Check out some of our other episodes!
Does your 3033 have upward pressure on the 3 point hitch? Or does the way the plows bite into the dirt keep it down?
Plow pulls itself downward.
the plow lays down well
That's a tough lil' tractor.
If you wanted to do a plot large enough to hobby farm, maybe have a vegetable stand or something, that tractor will get you there. I would like to see it pulling a small disc.
#51 John Deere 3320 3033R Disking with Antique Disk ruclips.net/video/B-bfRMDC1Pc/видео.html
I used to pull a plow just like that with a 950 JD.
I have that same exact plows I pull it with mt225 ls tractor but it is larger frame than 3 series deere if you want to plow better first 2 rounds go slower and set your depth pin and they will do great
Are you sure that both plows are 12 inch plows because mine are for teens and Morgan's farm equipment in Corbin has a 2 bottom 12-inch set of Massey Ferguson and I can really tell the difference in looking at them
Man that looks fun. Wish i could do this sorta stuff myself. Sadly, no land of my own and no tractor of my own either. My folks have both land and tracor but sadly they're not very interested in doing anything large enough with either of them that would require plowing. They rent their land out to other farmers instead. They mainly just keep the tractor for when they occasionally need to lift something with the loader or move something with the big forestry trailer. Both of which i usually end up doing for them. Don't think the machines would see much use if i wasn't around to run them, which makes me kinda sad... But ah well, maybe one day i'll have land and machines of my own that i can do what i want with. Here's hoping at least :)
Yep. Keep hoping, and enjoy your parents while they are here.
In a similar plow video someone asked what the chains on the coulters are for. I thought it may be to prevent them from swiveling all the way around, do you know their purpose?
Yes, I believe they are to keep the coulters from spinning all the way around
В СССР тоже был такой прекрасный помощник по хозяйству - Т-25 "Владимировец"!
Can you do more videos on the 1950-T?
+66Oliver good thinking. Perhaps we can get to that later this year. My family just got the detailed build sheet for it. Pretty cool.
Does the 3320/3033r have draft control for plowing?
No.
Thank you!
would a 1025r be too small to use a plow like this?
Yes.
@@TractorTimewithTim it figures since i just bought one.
Well, you can pull a 1 bottom plow.
I've been watching your videos and I am thinking of buying a 1025r myself. I will be getting a mower deck and a tiller. I noticed that you have a king kutter tiller instead of a John deere. Is there a reason you didn't go with the john deere, and does the 1025 handle the tiller well if I have a far bit of ground I will be maintaing? thanks for the videos .
+Troy Nicolai Thanks for watching, and thanks for the question. The simple answer on why I chose the King Kutter was price. I could see no reason to spend any more than the price of the King Kutter.
I am a regular on www.greentractortalk.com. Lots of discussion on tillers there. I've never heard even a single negative comment about ANY brand of tiller. Everyone seems to love their tiller.
Even the 1023e (less horsepower) seems to handle a 4' tiller with ease.
I think the biggest question for a 1025R/King Kutter combination is whether to get a King Kutter XB, or the King Kutter II.
I chose the XB for two reasons: 1) It is centered behind the tractor and 2) I think (not sure) that it will lift higher on the 1-series
There are advantages to the KK II as well: 1) It can till deeper I believe...only because the shoes are mounted differently. and 2) It is quick-hitch compatible
+Tractor Time with Tim thanks for the info, looking forward to the next video
+Troy Nicolai just making sure....you ARE getting the loader, right? I would not get a 1025R without a loader.
+Tim Marks I am not getting the loader as I also have a skid loader, not quite the same but I can't justify the extra money right now
+Troy Nicolai Ok, I understand. Having a separate loader of ANY type definitely changes the equation. I'm excited for you. You'll love your 1025R!
fun video the way to farm god bless you
How he adjust depth plowing?
3 pt height control.
I dont know how i missed this video but my question is do they make mini seeders?
+Brenton Carter are you asking of anyone makes mini seeders?
+Brenton Carter are you asking of anyone makes mini seeders?
Tractor Time with Tim Yes actually, i want to make a mini farm soon.
+Brenton Carter yes. Several companies make small seeders for grass seed, food plots, etc. I plan to demonstrate one when I get time. There is a local company near Indy that manufactures little seeders for sub-compacts and ATVs. What are you planning to grow?
Corn, wheat, soybeans and potato's on 50+ acres in the next 2 to 3 years. I just wanted to know if they make like 6 to 8 row for a JD 3046R tractor
I once plowed 40 acres with a plow like that and a 8N Ford. Let’s just say I do not want to do it again!
Boys and our toys!
Anyone know what symbol that is on his Dad's hat? is it a company?
Pioneer Hybrid seed corn.
Tractor Time with Tim thank you Sir. After plenty of Dad videos watched my curiosity got the better of me!
Massey Ferguson 35 pulled our two bottom all day long.
Did you put in a garden eventually with all this turned dirt? Fun video to watch either way.
No, this was just for fun. They eventually planted the entire 108 acres you can see in the background in corn.
This year, same field is in soybeans again.
For the size of the tractor you done a good job. The 3320 doesn´t have 4wd?
Yes, it has 4wd, and the 4wd was engaged. Just needed a bit more weight, both front and rear.
If you look at a old Ford or Ferguson they have bigger rear wheels than this JD so they get better traction on just the rear wheels. I think these modern more comfortable tractors need their 4wd to manage. I don't blame them, overwhelming majority of these are never used for ploughing.
The old 8n ford tractor was just 2W drive and only around 21-25 horse power . I have a old Ford-Ferguson 12-2 plow and my 8n pulled it. But don't think it pulled it quite that deep.
My brother in law just ask me not long ago if I was going to sell the plow, disk and cultivator ? I said, No my boys may need that to make garden on of these days out of part of that field, just to eat.
Cool. Thanks for the feedback.
that's a tiny little plow for such a huge tractor wd45 was about that size tractor I pooped three14 with it
Hydrostatic trans, and not nearly as heavy.
I like that 1950t nice tractor
+Tim Marks really? wow I guess that one won't be sold anytime soon then
some claimed the 1950T was great for grenading the engine block
Dale, the worst part (over the years) has been the inability to keep it from blowing a head gasket.
We've replaced 10-15 head gaskets (just an estimate). We keep the old ones, so I should count them to see how many it has been. We bought a new 'short block' once, but saw no improvement. Oh well. We're just careful to avoid pulling it very hard now.
Tractor Time with Tim a
How much for tractor and plow
Hey Tim Can you tell me the model number of the plow
I dunno. There seem to be thousands of these old Ford / Ferguson 2 bottoms on Craigslist
The problem is you don't have the right transmission for this job. You need the power reverser to do tasks like this. Hydrostats do not shine in this type of work.
Correct.
The soil moisture looked to be too high
Yep, just a bit. Remember, these guys are farmers. We would not have time to 'play' with this little tractor and plow in the spring if it were dry enough to start planting for real :-)
what size tractor do I need for 13 acres?
Sorry CJ. I was putting together a response on my blog for this question, but I haven't got it done yet.
The question is very difficult to answer without thinking more about what you want and need to do with the tractor rather than the acreage. Can you expand on what you need to do with the tractor? For instance, is it 13 acres of lawn mowing? 1 acre of lawn + 12 acres of trees, etc.
I am excited to see a video about it!
now we're talkin. :)
*****
yep. but my dream tractor is a cab 3720 with big tires & a fel
Pore little tractor my dad is always trying to put big atatcments on small tractors like he hates to admit the tractor is to small for the job and we have them all the way from 20hp to 110 hp see him with front off the ground all the time
More weight. At least 2 on each wheel. Should plow better as it scours.
The weight the 8N with gas, oil, water, no operator, 2,410 lbs, the 2N is the same.
If your going to get small tractor if they tell you one size is good enough get the biger one
One of the frontier plows would work better on that specific tractor.put that Ferguson plow on a ,to 35 and you'll see what I mean.
thanks
+dan morea thanks for watching! I think a bit too much for your 2320!
Onde lo compraste soi mejicano
Top link needs letting out looks to deep
8N Ford made 18 horsepower
In my ford N series tractor book , it say the 8N ford has a Maximun drawbar rating of 23.2 horse power. For what its worth.
dang that "tractor" is loud AF
Does that tractor have draft control? I have a set of 12B Ferguson plows. Check out my channel, there are videos of me pulling them on a 2N on steel. Thanks for the video
I don't think it has. Googled and found one John Deere site with specifications and the for for "Draft control sensing" the value was "Position control".

Why you running at an idle hell give it some fuel, give it something to drink Tim
We are running full throttle.
