Girl you are one of the best dancers I have seen in Irish dancing. As a black male I am proud of you, Modern Irish dance originated when Irish and black african dancers had dance battles in New York in the 1800s you . This was to become tap dancing. You r where U belong.
As someone who is very proud of my Irish heritage, I say this is amazing and she is a wonderful Irish dancer 🍀 🇮🇪 We Irish pride ourselves on our spirit and love, we welcome and want to have a good time with everyone. Slainte!
Slainte! I went to catholic school and we had heritage day. Everyone came on represting so I'm familiar with irish dancing (which is IMO, ballet pointed infused with tap) and is incredibly difficult. Ballroom, ballet, Irish, Spanish, Russian or even hip hop, when done correctly is beautiful to watch!
Seeing her do this makes me cry. I said in the 90s that I loved Irish Dancing, I was called a HONKY LOVER, SELL OUT and told I was ashamed to be black. I'm now 41 yrs old and I wish I had never let those words hold me back. I grew up ashamed of the things I loved.
I am 42 and I was an Irish dancer. It was tough years ago because people were still a little bit afraid of letting go of their culture because we were robbed of so much already. I grew up in London from age 3 years and I moved back to Ireland as an adult. Thankfully I came back to a much more open and relaxed place. It used to be different to be black, Asian or foreign but now it is just an everyday thing. I love it here now. We have lots of dancers from all backgrounds too. We can all unite as one with music and dance. It is a universal language.
You are NOT alone hon! I am half Irish, but Scandinavian tall, and although I would have loved this, this was not offered where I grew up. What was available was Mexican Folklorico dancing, and although I was interested, I didn't think I would be "allowed" to join because I am not Mexican. Guzman is my married last name! 😊 You can love who you are AND appreciate others. I don't know if the world will ever catch up, but I absolutely love her attitude!
That really sucks, Im white (aussie born with irish/welsh parents) loved breakdancing but was made fun of by family so I stopped. But there seems to be a worse stigma in black communities around liking any kind of white culture. We should all be allowed to admire and express our love for different cultures without the prejudice.. but hey, never too old to pick it up again. Do it if you love it!
Science Basketball there are plenty of people of ALL races that do African dance. Most recently, I watched a young Dutch girl doing African dance. To be specific it was Congolese. Dance is so universal. The problem is when people try to make things seem like they were the originators. She clearly knows the history and broadcast that it’s an Irish style of dance that she adopted and loves.
I mean this is just cultural appropriation and literally the only reason she isn't cancelled right know is because she's black, If it was an irish person doing a traditionally African dance it would be culturally I don' think anybody should cancel anyone but if people are going to cancel each you should hold everyone to the same standard not claim that it's racist for one side but not the other,,,
I'm Irish, born and raised my whole life in Ireland. Im very proud of this young girl. You dance your heart away.... we as Irish people are not offended. So any other cultures offended. Mind your business. You don't get a say in my culture.
It’s very easy for people to say negative and hurtful things hiding behind a computer screen. I hope this young lady never stops doing what she loves!!
Article 4 Section 4 what sense does that make? That’s literally someone’s opinion. I’m sorry if you care so much about what other people think that you’re unhappy. She’s literally not hurting anyone and doing something positive and creative. There will always be people to hate, be negative and criticize for whatever reason. That sounds like a personal problem to me!
Article 4 Section 4 lol you’re funny. Were in the video did she claim to be the best dancer of all time? Lol, and if you have done research on her, then you would have known she does competitions, and has won awards and praises!! So yes, she gets noticed in a crowd of white people! White people have been doing dance that are not native to their culture since forever, but let’s ignore that. Hip-hip, Soca, Dance-hall, Salsa, Samba, Kompa etc..the list goes on. POC don’t act crazy like this. It’s all over Tik-Tok and so on. And the funny thing is, the actual Irish people and people who claim Irish culture/Heritage are some of the people supporting her. Ignorant people like you are the reason she will keep dancing regardless of what sad pathetic comments she gets, like the ones you have posted. I’m not sure why I keep replying to your comment as they do not serve a purpose, so this is it. I pray God fixes the hatred in your heart whether you believe or not!!
I’m black, and I cried when she said she made it to Riverdance. That’s amazing. I’ve loved Riverdance since a kid. PBS would play the specials and I would be mesmerized, running around the house trying to do it too.
C J You are beautiful honey just keep dancing I am 96% Irish 4% Asian my mother and father and grandparents always said we were so lucky we were Catholic Irish we were to be very proud of it and I’m proud of you when I see you dance you’re beautiful keep dancing love🙏🏻💚🍀😘
Can you imagine if a white person posted a video of themself step dancing? Everyone would scream “that’s cultural appropriation! Stop doing this immediately!!” Yet this girl here appropriates an lrish dance, and everyone praises her for doing it and cheers her on to continue. The double standards are so tiring.
@ riche P Me too!! I just threw away my Michael Flatly Riverdance VHS tapes 2 years ago. I haven't had a VHS player in over 10 years, but I didn't want to part with the tapes.
Jay Mac it’s crazy but I found out the original Irish people were so called black and if you say that ur a racist... the shit we have to go through is crazy. But the dark must come to the light.
@Alezia A LIES The People's Were ALWAYS So Called Black and BROWN " White" IRISH Are Johnny Come Lately Whom Regrengrified IRELAND and SCOTLAND in the Late 1700s from England Which Was Also VERY BLACK ! Benjamin Franklin Wrote A ESSAY Explaining HOW BLACK the WHOLE WORLD WAS in 1751 INCLUDING EUROPE AFRICA AMERICA And ASIA ( Middle East)
Michael McCuin yes the observation of the increase of mankind he called them swarthy and tawny also when referring to the GERMANS as well. Who you never even think of being black or colored by today’s standards. This whole society is built on deception and wickedness.
I mean this is just cultural appropriation and literally the only reason she isn't cancelled right know is because she's black, If it was an irish person doing a traditionally African dance it would be racist but because she's black she can get away with it. I don't think anybody should cancel anyone but if people are going to cancel each you should hold everyone to the same standard not claim that it's racist for one side but not the other. If a white girl can't wear a traditonal chinese prom dress than a black girl shouldn't be able to irish dance it's only fair.
@@jankoleon3785 Bro i just came from videos of white man dancing traditional African dances And also white young girl And they're really famous and popular in African American communities and African countries
I watched this video and cried. Really, I’m a black American and loooove Irish dancing and have watch all the Lord of the Dance video from River Dance. The fact that you were invited to dance with them was so amazing, I’m happy for you because although I’m an old women, I can look at you dancing and see myself in you. Thank you for featuring this beautiful dancer GMA. You made my day.
True appropriation is not acknowledging the culture or originators of what has been adopted. If you in fact, watched the same video as myself... it is pretty evident that she gave and gives the Irish people their acknowledgement... unlike the groups who get called out for true cultural appropriation. This young lady is showing “cultural appreciation” for taking this expression of art, seriously AND acknowledging the actual group behind it 💁🏽♀️
@Scott Johnston She hasn't stolen it - she is honouring it. She has studied it in great depth, she fully respects its history and she has the blessing of the people for whom it is customary. In contrast to her exemplary approach, a cultural appropriation example would be something along the lines of a fashion designer using a native american headdress for a fashion shoot with zero understanding of what deep cultural meaning and status that headdress signifies.
@ Scott Johnston Your whiney statement is a over generalization. People are fine with Eminem. Because he did the same thing this girl did. Acknowledge and thank the culture he was participating in. Get over yourself. We are all one race, the human race.
I heard her on Irish radio, she was invited by our PM to visit - when COVID is gone - and one of the principals of river dance offered her a scholarship. Old Irish lady here, she’s gorgeous and talented and we’re proud of her too. Btw check out Palestinian dance, it’s beautiful and vibrant too.
Like you I'm old enough to remember when everything Irish was frowned upon, from the language, music, dance and our sports, by Irish people themselves. It's thanks to dedicated people than any Irish cultural traditions survive at all. So as far as I'm concerned, I'm delighted to see non-Irish people participate in all aspects of Irish culture.
I actually fell in love with her dancing when i came across it about a week ago from her post. Since then I've been practicing myself and i also wanna learn tap dancing like Michael Jackson did
I'm a black woman and I've loved Irish dancing for years. It is beautiful to see this young lady engaged and doing something she loves to do. Bravo!! God bless and continued success to her!!
Hip-hop was created by black and brown people in NYC, but there are hip-hop dancers All over the world. You can dance whatever style speaks to your heart.
DelusionalDarcy Tap dancing was also created by African Americans and people of all races all over the world dance it. I think people don’t realize that Irish dancing happens in so many countries around the world.
@All Seeing Egg The reason it's not the same the other way around is because white people are so well represented in the mainstream media, it wouldn't make sense for them to infiltrate Poc spaces when they have plenty of their own. That's like making Mulan or Moana white when y'all have, like, 7 other white princesses to look at and Poc literally get one each. Same concept.
I just tried Irish dancing in my living room, nearly snapped my knee, fell onto my coffee table, everything went flying, my cat got the fright of his life, he bolted out the cat flap and is now on the fence looking back in at me tidying up the mess, it's not for everyone, i am 53, overweight, my ankle is sore, best of luck to you from Scotland, just over the water from Ireland.
As a black woman I have to say I love the fact that you brought this back and you made it of this time I'm sure all the real Irish are proud that someone is showing their dance culture
There is no colorism in dance, dance is only an expression of the soul that comes from within. Thanks, Morgan for sharing your passion for the art form and never give up. WE adore U!
There shouldn't be "colorism" with anything. There shouldn't even be a word with such a vile definition. We should all just love one another and stop with the racist crap!
You're correct but many would disagree with your comment because they're closed minded and feel that everything belongs to them. The young lady in the video is only expressing herself and her interest in Irish dancing and I see nothing wrong with that. I've Chippewa in my DNA and I'm intrigued with my native side but unfortunately I'm castigated by my own community just because of my DNA that I had nothing to do with. Silly, right?. I hope all goes well for that talented sista and I hope many more like her learn about different cultures and follow their dreams never allowing anyone to tell them they can't.
@J OneLife You may assume from my name what my culture and heritage is, that would be a mistake. I am predominantly of Scots Irish descent and was raised to be very proud of my heritage. My sister in law is off the boat from the Old Country. My neice has performed and competed nationally. Two of my friends close friends came to this country because of the Troubles. I think that gives me a bit of righf to speak on the topic of weather or not this young lady can continue to celebrate MY CULTURE. And if it does not, perhaps the fact that the Irish Embassy spoke oug in her favor does. Or does their oponion not count either?
I'm Irish, also an Irish dancer. Morgan is spellbinding! I love watching her dance. She seems to feel the dance, the way many dancers, Irish included, don't. An absolute joy and a privilege to see her engage in my culture, so beautiful!
As someone with Irish descent watching this on the way to a hip hop class, I think it's so cool that other cultures can appreciate each others dancing and represent them in a positive way!
I’m a black female who’ve always been a fan of Irish ☘️ dancing and I’ve never seen a black person doing Irish dance until I saw her video like a month ago on IG I thought it was pretty cool 😊 .... I say that to say this, dance is a rhythm and music is a sound, it should never include color!
As born a Black Irish person, I absolutely love seeing this ❤️ This makes me proud on both ends of the spectrum. There are plenty of us out here and this is definitely an encouragement to dive deeper into this side of where my family comes from. It truly is an amazing and fun culture to be apart of.

@@jankoleon3785 She isn’t disrespecting anyone nor claiming it to be something new she invented or insulting Irish people while doing their traditional dance. @Horvat Lovren now YOU'RE appropriating OUR culture! Jive talking is ours! We back it up, can you? Or would you just duck and hide in person? This type of rhetoric will usually not end well so be warned in case you think it works in real life. 😂😂😂
@Horvat Lovren Imagine you're going to live at max 100 years on this planet and your biggest worry is the colour of someone's skin, something they had no choice on. Just remember, you could of been born black and would of had no choice in the matter. And I love the way you took the bad parts of what you see as 'black culture'. As an irish dancer I am so proud of you hun! You dance beautifully and you’ve got gorgeous turnout! Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your incredible gift! I haven’t danced in a while and after watching your videos I started dancing a set I haven’t done in over 15 years! ☘️
Her contribution to Irish dance is immeasurable, and crossing any "cultural borders" is something to be proud of, and she could not have said it better- nobody makes history by "staying in the box". Please don't EVER stop dancing, or being who are.
I’m not Irish but I bet the Irish are super proud to have her represent them. She’s freaking amazing. Dancing is one of the most beautiful things people share in the world 🖤
I’m from Morocco and we have a mix back home due to whites being enslaved and left behind there. The Berber culture is mixed. This isn’t the way it is in the Western world especially in the US. You’re very narcissistic to think I was talking about you. I don’t even know you. I was referring to the majority of American blacks who whine about cultural appropriation. Also, I doubt you’re from Kenya. People will say anything on the internet. SMH
@@user-od4zo1ow6d cultural appropriation is the act of not giving credit to the creators. In America they have a habit of claiming aspects of others culture as new.
I don’t care who likes what. I’m from a very mixed culture and country myself. I’m not from America. I find it unpalatable when blacks whine about cultural appropriation because it happens all the time. People can like what they like.
@@user-od4zo1ow6d sure it happens all the time. However black people sometimes lose their jobs, get suspended from school for being in their culture. That the sting of when others participate in their culture but then they are celebrated while they the blacks are casted out.
All Seeing Egg Irish or Irish American? Also white people shouldn’t wear dreadlocks because our hair is not suitable. It doesn’t have the same texture as black people and it’s not long before the hair stinks. No Irish person says they’re 100% Celtic because the celts actually spanned across the whole of Europe and it’s redundant to say that if you actually live here. Also. The ancient Irish people ( often referred to as celts when that’s somewhat of a debatable term) did not have dreads. They wore plaits
@Bobby Vagene no, I don't disagree white people would get called out for "cultural appropriation" remember the girl that wore a traditional Chinese dress for prom ? She got wrongfully called out only because she was white.
Born and raised in Ireland. Step danced and danced ballet professionally for 14 years. Little lady has A LOT of talent. Don’t listen to what they say love, you are always welcome and clearly have nothing but love for the art form. Yes we are looking at you because you are an absolutely beautiful dancer!
I’m so glad for her. As an Irish American, I support her. I don’t understand the controversy. There are white girls that look like me that love other cultural dance forms from other nations like Africa. Keep on doing what you’re doing! Success is hard to argue with.
As somebody who lives in Ireland and was born and raised here I think it’s wonderful what she is doing and I fully support her. Culture naturally flows amongst people. To say that it should be confined to borders real or constructed is foolish (and shockingly ignorant).
I love Irish dancing and come from an Imigrant town of Irish, Italian and Caribi Latinos. It was wonderful seeing us all embrace eachothers dances. Seeing little Dominican girls wearing the irish outfit dancing with Irish girls ❤️
It’s ironic that the only people upset are non-Irish people. Anyone who knows the history of the Irish will immediately realize how this girl would be welcomed with open arms. The Fightin’ Irish have a long history of being oppressed, it’s going to take a lot more than rude comments to get under their skin.
Not everyone is upset though, just because I don't like this, doesn't mean I'm upset. I'm entitled to my opinion under the 1st amendment. I'm not planning on lynching her. I wish there were less people like you, who are just trying to start wars.
@@Orc-icide I'm offended that the same people who lynch White people who do/wear non-White things, such as Kimonos, aren't also lynching and up in arms about this black lady taking an interest in something from a White country.
@@DEmeant0r Because she's respectful of this history. The reason people have an issue with non-Japanese people wearing kimono's is that they are not respectful of history and are wearing it as a trend. It's quite a simple concept. Also, you shouldn't use the word 'lynching' when referring to white people getting hate online.
@@mina.colada_9293 Should've used a different word, apologies. Yeah, I get that she's respectful of the history around it. I'm from Ireland and it's great more people are I interested in this. Something being done as a trend doesn't mean it's disrespectful, if Irish dancing was to become a trend among black/non-white people would you have an issue with this? Conversely, if non-black people started doing something black people did as a trend, would you be offended? My point is to stop being offended about these absolute non-issues. But this is 2020 and we're on the internet so we have to be offended about everything.

This is nothing new either. In Ireland's Got talent they did this 7 years ago. That's far from the only example but a well known one. In all honesty, all cultures borrow from each other and put unique spins on things. I don't dislike that at all. I hate the hypocrisy. Even this chick is saying that Irish dancers bed to be more inclusive while at the same time saying she was welcomed with own arms. Well which is it? And if she's making it her own, fine but that doesn't mean the classical art form should change. It could expand but there should be room for both. Perhaps she needs to learn to respect the origins and understand that she's just visiting the culture, but there to define it.

@chucky ! a spade is a spade chuck. I clearly explained the difference 🤦♀️. Calling cornrows "boxer briads" or "bo derek braids" there's a perfect example. Ignoring a whole culture that previously existed before somebody came along and renamed and reclaimed something that has been done its been brought to the mainstream to be considered "hip" by the predominant group but before black ppl got so much backlash and judgement for wearing our hair this way, still do 😑. They’re saying she’s “culturally appropriating” the Irish dance when she literally said the dance was developed by the oppressed Irish people. Meaning she knows the history, because she researched it. She’s gone to Ireland and participated in competitions and was hailed by them for doing an amazing job. How is she culturally appropriating when she is giving homage to the art form? Smdh. People tickle me sometimes.
Mina Bulaya It’s always like that. Whenever someone does something from a culture that isn’t their own, the only people who are offended are VERY OFTEN not of that culture. I’ve seen it multiple times in various situations like this. Most people who are of the culture the person is borrowing from are usually honored to be recognized by someone outside. As long as what they’re doing isn’t ACTUALLY offensive of course.
It doesn't matter if you give respect to the culture you're studying. The “stay in your lane" attitude of the politically correct left insists that any practice of another culture is appropriation.

I'm Black, and my Great grandfather was Irish and I used to Irish dance myself, but there was no internet or social media back then, I had a great time doing it. Surprisingly, I didn't get any hate back then in the early 80's, but real dancers don't give off hate, just love, and I support this young lady 100%. We even had some White girls in our African dance class that could dance their asses off!
I think its wonderful that you go beyond your own culture. That is maturity on your part. You will go farther with that attitude than these negative people that comment about what you are doing. Keep expanding your knowledge of other cultures!

So I support this girl 100 percent. Don’t let anyone tell you what’s okay to do and what’s not. Be your own person. You’re an amazing dancer, and I wish you all the success in the world.
I agree. I fell “victim” to the “acting white” stereotype because of the way I talked, listened to different kinds of music, and I wasn’t thinking about becoming a teen mom and be on welfare. Our people need to realize it’s ok to have different interests. Those who are inside the bubble are the main ones holding their own back.
I'm black from Nigeria. I agree with you 100%. That's the problem of African American. In my country, appropriation of culture of other ethnic groups abound. You see it in dance, music; secular and gospel, dressing, hair style etc. We are very happy when we see people outside our ethnicity speaking our language, dressing in our cultural wears, doing our hair styles, joining our cultural dances etc. It's more appreciated if the person is not from our country or continent. Living in America made me realize it's the opposite here.
Oh my God! Me, too! It’s so annoying. Other black kids at my school used to make fun of the way o talked and would say I “sounded white” and call me an Oreo.
Sophie Belvedere I’m speaking based on my own experiences. Obviously, I know not everyone is like that, but I was bullied by the other black kids in my class growing up. And social media wasn’t a thing back then. The Internet was still young. But now, yes, I interact with a lot of fellow black nerds and geeks. I even attend conventions full of them. But I’m still looked down on from time to time for being “different” (in their minds). And of course, as helpful as social media is for bringing people together, it’s also excellent at tearing people apart and fostering tribalism. You’re pressured to fit a certain mold of “blackness”.
I hate to be that person but that’s actually an Italian flag 😂 This is an Irish flag 🇮🇪 (green = traditional Gaelic culture, orange = Protestantism, white = peace between both sides)
As quite possibly the only South Sudanese/American Irish dancer to have competed at an international level, I would like also like to let you know that the CLRG organization has had at least two black world champions that I know of: one being American in 2011, and the other Scottish born to Nigerian parents, who won his title just last year.
Mø Nälayé 5% of the Irish citizens in the Republic of Ireland (not counting Northern Ireland) are Protestants. The Irish flag represents goodwill and harmony.
@Mø Nälayé Predominantly Catholic in the Republic of Ireland. However we do have many other faiths Muslim, Hindu, Sikhism, Judaism , Buddhism, Protestant, Christian (including protestants) etc etc. Northern Ireland has more Protestants than we do.
I cried watching this because as a young African girl newly migrated to Australia being taught and dancing the Riverdance was the single most defining moment of my entire school life, it was so inclusive, mesmerising, enchanting and addictive, I'm in my thirties now and it's still one of my most memorable experiences. God bless the Irish people for this beautiful gift to the world.
Negative comments... that really is hard to understand for me why people criticize something positive. Probably jealousy because of her talent and having that passion and focus.
Dustin Mayes MORON. Even writing what you just wrote shows how abhorrently ignorant you truly are. CULTURAL APPROPRIATION does NOT pertain to just ‘blacks’ you fool. You think only blacks complain or are aggrieved by cultural appropriation ? Have a read up on ‘Dia de los Muertos’ for starters and then get back to me. There is a much long-standing history that includes heritages and ethnicities from all around the world, from Mexico to the Far East, beyond and further each with their own culture to preserve and keep sacred. You write this is merely a black v white issue. Ha ! Educate yourself before you sound even more of the dim-witted gargantuan cretin than you do already.
@Rebekah Campbell You know how I know you're slow? Because my comment never said blacks were the only ones who complained about it. Just that they do. So go learn English and get back to me. Lol loser.
Dustin Mayes Erm, yeah perhaps. Except Dustin Mayes, your own comment clearly ONLY states in your very own words and I repeat verbatim ‘you know that thing blacks keep complaining about’. You talk about CA like you are the CA aficionado yet you liken CA to being something that only blacks take issue with, that’s what you write yourself moron. Your own sad ignorant words Dustin, no mention of any other heritage, any other ethnicity, nor any other race, if you can even determine actual definitive race merely or collectively by writing the word BLACK. Just admit it, you are a sad pitiful ignoramus who wouldn’t appreciate the understanding of cultural appropriation if it came and kicked you square in the bollocks...Guess they’d have to find them first anyway uh.
As a person of Irish descent, I say don't let the negative comments get you down, Morgan. NO ONE owns this genre. As no one owns hip-hop or ballet. Do what you love and put your heart into it.
Totally agree. Culture appropriating shaming is going too far nowadays. If we all stay in our boxes we will be divided and have less understanding of our fellow humans in different cultures.
I'm a black middle aged man and I've always thought I was the only black person alive who loved watching Irish dancing. I also love tap, so i guess it makes sense. I saw Savion Glover by myself and was mesmerized the entire show.
Kinda weird thing I'm almost half Native American and I saw that the Native Americans up in Canada amongst some tribes they've been clogging for generations and no one has ever said anything about it. I find in mesmerizing to watch. I'm still surprised every time I see it, somehow it's something unexpectedly cool I didn't know.
In Uganda during the 70s Scottish Highlands dancing was a national item. Those competitions were brutal but its sad that when Amin(was a huge fan and champion) was overthrown the competition and the classes were stopped. It's been over 40 years and efforts to revive it has fallen on deaf ears. They were part of the folklore dances along the Ugandan ones and both standards were high, its sad that item was struck off the folklore calendar because we were really good at it. For me it was just culture and it was beautiful.
@@psychedforlife7176 I was fortunate in my time as a modern dancer, I was exposed to a lot of different forms of movement. Pick whatever suits you, even if it's just putting on some music at home and wiggling around.
From one Irish dancer to another - keep doing what you're doing!! We should never be prevented from embracing other cultures. If this offends anyone, it means that they have a narrow-minded view of race and prefer to see people boxed into categories that make sense to them. Don't let them stop you!!! LOVE FROM CANADA
That’s so smooth, and graceful. I’ve never been a fan of Irish dance and I am irish and live in Ireland , but you are looking at it , exploring it , shifting its polarity and poetry, I think I understand it more because of your interpretation. Love it.
As an Irish person with 2 left feet, I commend this young lady for learning and keeping Irish dance culture alive with her commitment and her passion. Just because the dance originated in Ireland doesn't prohibit non Irish from learning and excelling in it. kudos to you, keep up the good work, and enjoy every moment of it.
This young woman not only is a great dancer, but as a human being she is filled with the Light. She is all that is good about humans. She loves herself, her culture, others cultures and loves to share her love. She truly is wonderful. She is the Light in this world.
Why can't we ALL learn about different culture and countries, we should celebrate and embrace it ALL, the more we learn, the more we will love. What a nice young lady, she is a great dancer. Knowledge is power
I'm straight crying right now. I wish I had a role model like her growing up. She had the courage to do something I couldn't, and I'm so proud of her for it.
@Bres so a black person born in Irland is not Irish or a black person with a parent who is Irish in not Irish? So you are only Irish is you are white and born in Irland or have a parent who is Irish? huuummm? Interesting.
Wife’s account but I am irish, and we love the fact people learn about our history *long and sad one* and embrace our culture. Trust me, irish don’t care at all about people celebrating it. And learning our history. She’s got my full prayers to make it far along in her career as a dancer.
A big 'Well done, you!' from Ireland. I love the way you dance the 'traditional' way on the board, in casual clothes with your hair flying free. Our dance started way back in the mists of time. I'm proud of you for becoming part of that tradition and carrying it into the future. Dia an t-ádh ort! (May God prosper you).😊 P.S. Incidentally, our culture has never been a static thing. That's why it's so strong. Over centuries it has been enriched by influences from other cultures while still maintaining the link to older forms. Some of those influences are believed to have come from as far as North Africa along the Atlantic trade routes. So actually you aren't starting something new. In fact, you are continuing something very ancient.😃
“They’re gonna look at you. But you have to make sure they don’t look away.” LOVE

Girl you are one of the best dancers I have seen in Irish dancing. As a black male I am proud of you, Modern Irish dance originated when Irish and black african dancers had dance battles in New York in the 1800s you . This was to become tap dancing. You r where U belong.
yup
As someone who is very proud of my Irish heritage, I say this is amazing and she is a wonderful Irish dancer 🍀 🇮🇪 We Irish pride ourselves on our spirit and love, we welcome and want to have a good time with everyone.

Right on! I was raised by an Irish woman (Sheehan). I think she would agree!
Except if they're British. Sorry, I'm pro IRA

You have to stop letting people tell you who you are
Cultural appropriation
You are NOT alone hon! I am half Irish, but Scandinavian tall, and although I would have loved this, this was not offered where I grew up. What was available was Mexican Folklorico dancing, and although I was interested, I didn't think I would be "allowed" to join because I am not Mexican. Guzman is my married last name! 😊
You can love who you are AND appreciate others.
She’s amazing! Not only is she artist, talented, and disciplined in her dancing, she’s smart. She even thinks like a winner. Inspiring! ⭐️
Always loved watching Irish ☘️ Dancing

True appropriation is not acknowledging the culture or originators of what has been adopted.
If you in fact, watched the same video as myself... it is pretty evident that she gave and gives the Irish people their acknowledgement... unlike the groups who get called out for true cultural appropriation.
This young lady is showing “cultural appreciation” for taking this expression of art, seriously AND acknowledging the actual group behind it 💁🏽♀️
Scott Johnston just enjoy the video
@Scott Johnston She hasn't stolen it - she is honouring it. She has studied it in great depth, she fully respects its history and she has the blessing of the people for whom it is customary. In contrast to her exemplary approach, a cultural appropriation example would be something along the lines of a fashion designer using a native american headdress for a fashion shoot with zero understanding of what deep cultural meaning and status that headdress signifies.
@Scott Johnston read what redboneafricanna22 said
@ Scott Johnston Your whiney statement is a over generalization. People are fine with Eminem. Because he did the same thing this girl did. Acknowledge and thank the culture he was participating in. Get over yourself. We are all one race, the human race.

All Seeing Egg what culture?
@All Seeing Egg The reason it's not the same the other way around is because white people are so well represented in the mainstream media, it wouldn't make sense for them to infiltrate Poc spaces when they have plenty of their own. That's like making Mulan or Moana white when y'all have, like, 7 other white princesses to look at and Poc literally get one each. Same concept.

@All Seeing Egg didn't Nordic people have dreds and braids in the iron age?

Something being done as a trend doesn't mean it's disrespectful, if Irish dancing was to become a trend among black/non-white people would you have an issue with this? Conversely, if non-black people started doing something black people did as a trend, would you be offended? My point is to stop being offended about these absolute non-issues. Or is she simply getting famous for being black? You know the answer. You can see that there are better dancers. Irish Step Dancing was used as the basis for tap dancing so it's not like this is the first time blacks have adopted it.

AND the only people who are truly upset are non-Irish people. So silly!
