    Welcome to Macau! 🎉 As a local, I am genuinely delighted to see RUclipsrs exploring our beautiful city. Please don’t miss the charm of the old town-there’s so much history and stunning architecture to discover! 🏛 You are one of my favorite couple travel RUclipsrs lately! ❤ If possible, I would recommend staying a few more nights to experience different hotels. The integrated resorts in Macau are very cost-effective, and you’ll find plenty of delicious street food! 🍜✨ Additionally, there is a lovely light festival during Christmas and New Year. I sincerely hope you enjoy your time here!

    40:06 Here the bus driver misunderstood and thought you were going to the Ruins of St Paul, thats why he let you out after two stops. That lady was trying her best to help but unfortunately, as with most of the locals, shes probably never heard of the portuguese name "Rua do Cunha" before. I am sure she would have got it if you guys had said "Cunha Street" instead, as Cunha sounds closer to the cantonese name of the Street (and she would have understood what "street" meant)

      The buses have a flat fare of 6 MOP, or 3 MOP (?) with Macau pass.
      Yeah, you caught the bus in the wrong direction, and you were misunderstood (both happened to be two stops away). It would probably have helped if you have shown the phone map to the bus driver instead; even if he couldn't read Rua do Cunha, he could probably figure it out from the map that you want to go to Taipa.

    Within Mainland China, you can find Central Asia or Middle East in Xinjiang (as it's nearer to Central Asia). You can find Thailand in certain parts of Yunnan that live the Dai minority (similar to Thai). In parts of Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang, you can find Russia (due to the Russians who once escaped to China a long time ago). In Shandong Qingdao, you can find Germany because it was leased to the Germans for 99 years. Then there are pockets of French, British and Portugese enclaves due to brief occupation of these places during the First World War. I've come to realise this after watching some vlogs.

    Best I can tell, at 40:02, a voice speculated that you might've wanted to go to the Ruinas de Sao Paulo somehow (not knowing that you just came from there; and as you correctly surmised, the Chinese name sounding nothing like the Portuguese), and you happened to say "Yeah, bus number 33" right after, hence the lady and then the bus driver both came to the conclusion that that was where you were trying to get to, as a result. The bus driver even commented that it would be 2 stops away, I'm assuming that was why 2 stops later the bus driver insisted that was the stop (he thought) you wanted when you were "kicked off" the bus.

    • @2Passports1Dream
      @2Passports1Dream  27 дней назад +1

      Ohhhh haha strange that they assumed that, we showed them the name of the stop we wanted in writing. They seemed surprised that it was named in Portuguese, which further confused the situation since all of them are in Portuguese hehe!

    • @ronaldlau9363
      @ronaldlau9363 27 дней назад +1

      @@2Passports1Dream It seems clear that the lady doesn't know Portuguese. She spoke Cantonese but I'm not sure she's necessarily a local. (Perhaps from HK/Zhuhai/Shenzhen/Guangzhou?) The bus driver might've been able to read that but from what I can tell in the video the driver didn't get to see your phone?
      Anyway, I share your trepidation about riding on buses in foreign countries. Though I have always enjoyed it on occasions where I plucked up the courage AND did all the necessary research.
      Just realised the bus driver did wonder if you were going to Rua do Cunha at 39:49, perhaps due to the fact that in this case they sound similar enough in the two languages, but no one was in a position to confirm that for him and then they collectively and mistakenly came to the conclusion that it was the Ruinas you wanted.
      Anyway, I hope you don't feel bad about being "kicked off", it seems that the driver simply thought you wanted that stop that was the one 2 stops away from when you got on.

    Small tidbit of info: the Cotai area you're on used to be the waterway between Coloane island and Taipa island , now combined into a single island (thus Co-Tai) with the Cotai strip(mini vegas) being landfilled in. The waterways there used to be where Macau and next door Hengqing island farmed these small Macanese oysters and there was a small village of oyster restaurants across from Coloane in Hengqing but that land has since been given to Macau for an expansion to Macau University.
    I lived in Taipa for a bit before the landfilling started in 1999 and also right when The Venetian opened in Aug 2008 (my place was fairly close to the dog racing Canidrome and there used to be an excellent Portuguese grilled chicken place across the street). I used to love sitting by the ampitheatre at Casas-Museu watching the Venetian being built and herons flying close by through the lotus pond.
    and speaking of Rua do Cunha, there's a Pastelaria Fong Kei, their various cookies are the best on the street. they're not factory made, it's all done right there and you can see them coming out of the back room piping hot. i don't eat almonds but my friends all say the almond cookies are superb. i highly recommend the "cat ear" cookies, which are the thin ones with a spiral pattern, as well as their wife cakes, which IMHO are better than the ones from Hong Kong's Yuen Long district.

    Macau is like Chinese version of Las Vegas.
    I used to have a friend who used to go there every year just a gamble his money away.
    Some may say all that fake romanesque architecture and replica Michelangelo style paintings is rather tacky, but may have been partially funded from the misery of gambling losses.
    Macau is infinitely more civil and immaculately clean compared to Las Vegas and it's been a treat to see your experience.

    Hello. We also visited Macau last May 2024.
    Venetian mall in Macau and Manila’s Venice Grand Canal mall have the same man made canal with gondolas inside the malls.
    Macau was the first one to build. Manila’s version is bigger :).
    That city has so many modern and luxury towers that are so refreshing to see.

      Haha it really did remind us of the Venice grand canal mall in Manila! Even with the singers on the gondolas haha!

    Macau offers the shortest bus route into and out of China to mainland Chinese and foreigners; just remember social gathering in casinos is fine, but gambling can be addictive and lead to significant financial problems.

    Ojoj vad Macao har förändrats sedan 90-talet, då var det enkelt, genuint och framförallt Portugisiskt. Nu verkar det ju mest vara en mix av Las Vegas & Dubai på steroider - en ”themepark” helt enkelt 😂 Vi får passa på att njuta av Taiwan nu kommande år innan de också går samma öde tillmötes… Ha de gött!

    Macau's casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) was about 5 times more than that of Las Vegas in 2019. In 2023 it was about 2.5 times.
