That's a great collection! Thanks for sharing with us! I hope I can find one of those over here. I run a ranch and as such I think that marlin spike would be useful with all the rope work we do. :)
I have seen near identical models of knife being sold as sailing knives, they may be sold where you are as that. Hope you find one as they're really handy tools
I have one that says SSP 1941 with the spike with an upward arrow next to the date and it has the longer tin opener you mentioned. I can send pics if you’d like.
The most obvious differences between the British and Belgian knives appear to be the two rivets you mention, and the can opener blade of the Belgian model including a bottle cap lifter not found on the WW2 British ones.
Hi mate great vid!! I wonder if you can help me? I recently purchased from a UK retailer a listed British army clasp knife listed as 1951 dated that would need a clean up due to rust. I wanted it as my late father had one when he did his National service in1951 so i bought it and cleaned it up. However once cleaned i can find no date stamp anywhere? The only markings on it are on the tin opener which have ABL CC 0530. I've done a little research and found that these were possibly made under license from the British MOD for the Belgian army during the cold war? But if so why no date stamp? The retailer is not answering my question and am wondering if this is a 1951 year clasp knife at all? Thanks in advance for any info on this
Aye the ABL marked ones are Belgian however they're virtually identical to the British issue ones. Made from the same components in the same factory but stamped up for Belgian issue from what I understand .
Hi Andrew...thanks for the very interesting video...I've been desperately searching for a g1098clasp knife without the marlin spike for years but cannot find one ..can you suggest anywhere I could get one please...I was an infantryman in 1984 to 1986 and miss my k ife
The G10 ones I have I found at a few different Sunday markets. They were in tool boxes so it's worth having a good rummage around. You'll find them and they're fairly cheap. I was in the royal engineers and had the one with the spike.thats the one I'm looking for 😁
U just need the indian army issued ones in the collection.. they are easily distinguished as the handle is made from bull horn instead of the bexoid plastic.
Own one of the new manufacture reproductions. Before anybody judges me I am over here in the States. These are not common knives here. I would love to see a video on how the can opener is used on these knives due to it’s unique design.
Have been able to get WWII clasp knifes including two navy ones easy and really cheap. Three quid about the norm , just got two in rough shape going to use bi-carb an vinegar . Pieces of history , if only they could talk..............??
@@andrewjohnston4127 Yeah second hand shops that have no idea or aren't bothered. Got 12 pocket knives yesterday for 30 quid . One each WW II Royal Navy and Army , rest assortment of vintage including two with antler scales . Most unsual though is a CK with ' lambs foot' scales, brass inside , real nice . 😁
If the second knife bottom row from the left without visable blade rivet is marked Adler rostfrei it is an dutch navy knife issued after 1965 till 2000

Thanks Andrew. Really interesting. The Royal Navy knife is referred to as a Pussers Dirk.
Very nice collection! I agree the British issue clasp knives are well built and handy!
Thanks 😀 Yeah some are almost 80 years old and still very usable to this day. Always have one in my pocket anytime I go camping
I got one last year in a box of old tools and along with the tools I restored it, a 1943.i did this because my dad had one or two when I was a kid!

grazie per la visione, adoro collezionare questi coltelli da tasca. ancora oggi molto utilizzabile
Bottom row, left side looks Italian.
Could be, not sure of its origins but it was cheap so I couldn't pass it up 😀
You’re right . I’ve got several of them . Reinforced with metal at the top and thin serrations .
خیلی عالیه یکی دارم
