I love this game. I had it on the NES and PC as a kid and had the Gameboy Advance version in high school plus the PS2 Defender of the Crown where you play as Robin Hood (Fun but I miss being able to send Robin in to kill my enemies in the night.)

also in the c64 version you could chose disease and i think fireball bombs as options for the catapult. once you knock down the walls a bit, throw over some attack balls which can really decimate the enemy first. (they are the pots next to the catapult at around 13.49)

As a kid this was the most confusing Nes game I owned did it lead to me gravitating to games like M&B very likely

I bought this game new when i was in my late teens and loved it. at the time it was a pretty good combo, mini-games all bunched into one with for the day very impressive graphics, most of the Cinemaware games had impressive graphics. There were so many games you stood out when you looked better than the rest even if the gameplay was the same. WINGS was by far my favorite on the AMIGA of the Cinemaware games( my machine in those days) and TV Sports Football blew me away (till you learned how to cheese the game and play the CPU, we always played seasons and at end when it was the 2 live players playing each other let the CPU play it). The Amiga has so many visually impressive games that were quite a subpar playing game.. Shadow the Beast was so impressive looking, yet was a pretty average scroller, if it had more than graphics going for it, it was its difficulty. great review hope you build up som subs.

All I remember about Defender of the crown was when playing 3 Stooges and this title came up

When this came out, I was blown away by Jim Sachs' artwork. Sadly, i didn't really like the game itself very much. The minigames were fun, but I didn't enjoy the strategy element, mostly because I wasn't any good at it. I start the game, play a few turns and suddenly the computer opponents have taken over the entire map. I amass what I think is a sizable army, move it into a neighboring territory and they immediately get slaughtered.
I had the same disappointment with Rocket Ranger. All the magazines showcased the action scenes, when in reality, the bulk of the game is all strategy.
I loved Wings and played through that game a couple times. Never got all that far in It Came From the Desert though. And I hated The Three Stooges. I found all the minigames annoying and frustrating.
