hey just a German trying to explain a few things you were wondering about: 1. there is no music on most christmas markets this in Germany this year because they just raised the royalties for the music like crazy high and the markets try to boycott that because its ridiculously high. 2. those little sausages are THE thing in Nürnberg and are known throughout Germany as Nürnberger. 3. May seem crazy but the apple sauce is the traditional topping for the fried potato things. You should try it, its amazing. Loving this serious, cant wait for part 2 and 3. Have fun exploring!

I watch all of your videos and enjoy them, but I hadn't realized how much I have missed seeing you two going to places and experiencing them the way anyone would (ie not the super expensive gifts stays). Those attainable adventures are the ones that get my travel bug going and got me signed up for fare drop
Oh my goodness, I was laughing so hard at Kara during the Krampus event. I’m sure that was low key terrifying, but oh her reaction and screaming was priceless!
@@Hnb10000 Listen, she's a grown woman. If she was in need of protection, uncomfortable, or not enjoying it she has a brain and a mouth to say, "Let's go back I don't like this." to him. The option to walk away from discomfort is real and she chose not to take it. It's not on her husband at all.
I like the people you met along the way. From the Uber driver who went well out of his way to the friendly food vendors to the guy patiently teaching Kara how to pronounce a long German word, it's the people who make the moment special.
Little note from someone living in Belgium! What you describe as Belgium's "Santa Claus" is actually Saint Nicolas, which is a completely different person. And celebrated by many (mostly) central-europe countries. There is a hole legend behind the reason as to why he became a Saint, and many traditions that come with him depending on which country he's celebrated in. He's believed to be the inspiration behind Santa Claus' looks, as you can see from their many similarities. Usually kids get small gifts such as books, socks,... in addition to tangerines and chocolate/candy. We still have presents coming from Santa, which are usually bigger than St. Nicolas', on Christmas day and still celebrate him as well on the 25th! 😊
I am almost 76 and so excited about this tour of Europe. I am far to old to go but you two make this a great tour and educational for me. I live through you. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you both..
As a German, I immediately laughed out loud when Nate mentioned the transfer time in Munich. German efficiency definitely ends with trains. Never travel by train in Germany if you have appointments 🤣
You got the complete German train experience lol! Don’t take a route with too many layovers because you will probably miss them. Or always plan ahead and look for an alternative in case of a delay! Feuerzangenbowle is a German Movie Classic and Bowle is a drink mixture that contains fruit, wine and sometimes spices or sparkling water... the Romanian guy says „In Deutschland“. Ah and i read in the news that this year many German Christmas markets are without music because the GEMA (German authority for musical rights) asks exorbitant amounts of money for the Christmas songs. Great idea for a Christmas series keep up the great work!
Eating ketchup with you fries is absolutely normal and fine here in Belgium! And about Santa: the man you described is called ‘Sinterklaas’ here in Belgium (and the Netherlands). We call Santa ‘de Kerstman’ and he is exactly like the Santa you guys know! 😀
OMG the Krampus run is insane. Absolutely made me laugh out loud listening to Kara scream and watching them. Such a strange tradition!! Thank you for sharing. I wanna go now!!
When you think about it its not actually strange. Dont they say only good kids get presents and the bad kids get coal? Well for the saint nikolaus it is him who brings presents to the kids on December 6th and krampus goes to the bad kids and smacks them or gives then coal. Nowadays its not like that anymore but the same way that they have santa runs in some cities they have krampus and st. Nikolaus runs
Anyone else love a good ferris wheel flashback?! 😂 This is the perfect series for the holidays! I'm enjoying the Christmas spirit right along with you.
It's Saturday night in India and was just done with a rather rough day! This is the best way to end the day with hot chocolate before bed giving the Christmas vibes ✨😍
This feels so much like your old videos. I love it! I’ve been rewatching the first 2 years and realized I miss the markets and street food, so I’m happy to see this.
I do love your big challenge videos, but these are my ultimate favourite videos from you, travelling around countries and experiencing the local atmosphere
Enjoy all the Christmas festivities in Europe!! 🎄And actually: the Belgian and Dutch tradition with the bishop looking 'Sinterklaas' which is celebrated on December 5th, is not the equivalent of Santa because we still celebrate Santa (kerstman = Christmas man in Dutch) on Dec 25-26. It is just an additional festivity (and good excuse to receive more presents 😉)
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! Now, don't get me wrong, I have loved all of your videos, even the ones that other people apparently didn't. But this was so reminiscent of the old days when you guys first started out. It was great! I can't wait for the rest of your trip!! So fun!!!
Oh I am from Austria - and I totally get you! This must be quite a disturbing experience 😂I definitely have a childhood trauma from Salzburg Krampusses 😂 I've been so afraid of them ever since - and there are even uglier ones 🙈 An yeah, the markets here in Austria are very special, very local and filled with craftsmanship which is so nice - I love them 😍 I've been to the Prague Christmas Market the past weekend and I saw you getting off your train in Prague as I was boarding mine 😊 It was so great seeing you guys in real life! Totally surreal but made my day! Hope you have a great time there 😊 Greetings from Austria 🌞
So sorry to see that you skipped Wroclaw (Poland), as it is so close to your route. We have one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe. I recommend you to go off the route and visit us, or visit Wrocław next year 🎄
This is my second favorite episode that you guys have ever made! Watching Kara try to blend into a wall, while surrounded by 7 Krampuses and screaming to the top of her lungs out of fear... I had to watch it twice 😂😂😂 Just Fabulous!!!
for everyone wondering: The shoe outside thing is not done at christmas but at december 5/6th. On that day saint Nick will come and leave some small presents (usually just some chocolates or a small toy) for the kids.. Kids will polish their shoes and leave it outside over night. Next morning the first thing they do is look outside and see what they`ve got. Saint Nick has a "bad" helper, depending in which region you are its either "knecht ruprecht" or the more scarier demonlike Crampus. Santa Claus and Saint Nick are not the same! We still celebrate Christmas like you guys do in the states
at 17:39 the way Kara says “the Krampus are coming” made me laugh so hard. I can’t wait to do this in the future, you both inspire me and my partner. We love these guys!!
I can't believe you guys are actually doing one of my bucket list trips....About 3-4 years ago, I started planning a train trip through Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland visiting all the Xmas markets.....simply beautiful cities and incredible atmosphere in the main squares. Thank you both so much for bringing me along on a wonderful journey..!!
Ohhh nooo you're skipping POLAND 😮 It has some of the best ones! I am doing a Christmas in Poland series right now. I fell in love with this country. 🇵🇱♥️ jestem w domu. Hope to invite you soon to show you the magic ✨️

I am looking forward to your next video, I hope you will go to Budapest it is a very beautiful city! Good luck to you guys and safe travels! Greetings from Belgium! ❤
My wife and I lived in Germany for 5 years. The Christmas market each year was my favorite festival of the year. The Gluhwein was such a big part of the tradition for me. I love that you are doing an entire episode on this. What fond memories.
when Kara was describing how happy she was- did anyone else tear up at the way Nate was looking at her and that loving kiss? ahh it what makes us single people (okie me especially) still have hope for that passionate love!
This is definitely one of the best videos you guys have posted in the last two years. I laughed, I cheered, I was scared, and now I need to go!! I just took my husband to our local Xmas market in the middle of the video because I was inspired!!! Love you guys!!
My friends and I did the Krampus run in the black forest and it was awesome. They do like to menace you, one even put glitter in my hair... which was interesting to get out.
Kara and Nate! You should offer this as a tour next year. I’m a Christmas fan and this looks like my dream trip, this was such fun. Merry Christmas to you and your families and everyone in the comments.
One thing I learned when I was at Bible school in Germany for 6 months was that Germans are VERY on time (pünktlich), but their transportation is NOT at all. I loved the German Christmas markets! They're so beautiful and each one has a different style Glühwein mug with different numbers on them. And each year they're different- even at the same market! It's so unique!
as a former nuremberg local who now lives across the country it was a true heartwarming joy to watch you enjoy the market at townsquare. it is quite fun seeing another perspective on the city i grew up in. the gingerbread is to be said to been have invented in nuremberg and where it all started. the "angel" you can see everywhere, with the curls and wings is called "Christkind". child of christ or worldy christkid. whe is representing the good in the word and the reminder to be grateful and to give without judgment. there are alot of legends and stories around her and every 3/4 years there is election like pageant where girls from around to can audition to represent her, so open the christmasmarket on the sunday in dezember and travel around town. it's a whole spiel with pressconferences and meetings with the mayor and stuff. the town goes wild for her. hope you enjoyed the town itself aswell, just a little but. the castle is beautiful and the view from up top is breathtaking.
I was going to post the sand thing. Is not that I don’t understand/respect the life style change but I really really miss seeing/hearing about ALL the different food experience’s. I looked forward to all the food recommendations for when one day I get to travel
Nooooo! Santa Clauss doesn't dress differently in Belgium. We have another event for the kids (and older kids like Kara too) on the 6th of December called "St. Nicholas" and this is the character you met. Children put out their shoes, hoping St. Nicholas would leave them small gifts or treats. It's also well-known in the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Seriously, we can't have Santa Clauss dressed anything else than the Santa Clauss of Coca-Cola.
There are pockets in the US where we get stockings filled for St. Nick’s on the 6th too! (In addition to the presents around the tree on the 25th). We don’t have the actual Saint character to go along with that day though. 😊
9 days, 9 countries for Christmas, food, shopping, amazing views... what a wonderful Christmas gift!! Merry Christmas, Kara & Nate!!! We all love and adore you!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
This video brought me so much holiday warmth and love. I absolutely love seeing the two of you interact with each other and truly enjoy each other's company. What you have is so very special, and you share it with everyone, which makes it even more special. I might have to go dig through my hard drives to revisit the pictures of my trip to Munich and the Marienplatz Christkindlmarkt. I laughed so hard when I saw a Santa pull his sleigh up to a Gluhwein stand, order one, then hop back into his sleigh and drive away. Thanks for bringing back these memories for me and for sharing your holiday spirit.
I enjoyed this video so much! I am an Austrian living in the US and I really miss the traditional Christmas markets during December. Thank you Kara and Nate for giving me a little bit of home 😍 Love you guys 🧡
Me too. I’m from Germany and we have one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets in my hometown Dresden (of course I might be biased wink) and miss Christmas 🎄 in Germany so much.
Kara and Nate videos are so fun. You took me to places that I've never been like the various Christmas Markets in different countries. The Krampus parade in Saltzburg was crazy interesting. I always thought Krampus was some weird hollywood inspired evil Santa....
I also slightly love how Kara is being traumatized and Nate’s just laughing and filming … way to go Nate. You just won husband of the year lol. Poor Kara!
I took my wife to Vienna and Salzburg for the Christmas markets in 2012, and with a ski trip when the snow finally arrived. She related it as the best trip ever, probably because it hits all the senses: food, festivities, festive music, decor, happy people, refined beverages, etc.! By the way, Nate, how do you say "french fries" in Belgium?
Used to live in Austria for 5 years. The local villages used to try to have the best Krampus. Very cool. Some used to get very drunk in their Krampus suits and really hit the kids and onlookers with their whips. Good memories
The Christmas market in Craiova - Romania was voted 2nd best Christmas market in Europe this year. It's a beautiful market and it also has a nice theme - The snow queen (from the story written by Hans Christian Anderson). If you read or already know the story like i do (as a little girl i always asked my parents to read me this story because it was one of my favorites) you will see elements mentioned in the story inside the Christmas market and it will all make sense bettee than for the people who don't know the story. Have a great trip around Europe ! Stay safe and enjoy these magical moments ! ❤
This is my new favorite series of yours. This is legit my dream trip and I love seeing you all doing it. I also love how chaotic the travel is because that’s just so legit with how traveling by train can be sometimes but it also adds to the fun of the trip. I’m so excited to see the rest of your trip!
Sinterklaar and Santa Claus (Christmas) are two different things. We have the same Christmas as in the US. Except that presents tend to be given on the 24th in the evening. Not 25th in the morning. But beginning of December and Christmas are two different parties. ☺️ Love the vids. As always!
They actually are the same thing. Santa Clause is Sinterklaas. But then the USA gave it their own twist and then the Dutch and Belgians decided to celebrate BOTH
Belgian Liege Waffles are one of the greatest things you can get with coffee. They're slowly getting more popular and it is awesome (also American here). Kara's reaction to the Krampuses had me CRYING laughing.
And what about minute 17:00, when Nate's looking at Kara while she reminisces... So much love in his eyes 😍 I had to go back and watch it a second time 🥰
This is such a cool idea! I think in the summer you should do a German castle / wine village tour in the Mosel-Rhine region 😁 If you come to Cochem let us know!! We’ll show you around!
Just came back from Brussels, Bruges, Nuremberg and Vienna over 11 days. Took my wife and my 2 cousins, who are in there 70's, on this journey. I have to admit it was very refreshing to see countries that still enjoy the authentic Christmas spirit! The 20" of snow and ice did prevent us from getting to Munich, but was a great experience!
This series is filling my heart with Christmas joy! I cannot wait for the next episode. Thanks Kara and Nate for always bringing some cheer to my weekends 🎄 😊
Santa is something else than 'Sinterklaas' in Belgium! Sinterklaas is a holiday on the 6th of december, where Sinterklaas with his helpers go around the world to bring presents to children. Children in Belgium and The Nederlands place their shoes at a table in the house, with a carrot for his horse and a belgian beer for the helpers, and in return when the kids wake up in the morning, there are A LOT of candy and toys in the shoes and on the table! Santa is just like the rest of the world on 25th of december :) They both look kind of the same but it's completely different! In Belgium people with children also place their Christmas trees only AFTER 6th of december because it would be rude to 'Sinterklaas'. ;) Sinterklaas is a holiday just for children, where Santa and Christmas are for every age. Big fan, thank you for coming to Belgium! Too bad I didn't get to meet you! xxx
The american Santa Claus was modelled after the dutch Sinterklaas though (including the name). In that regard it's pretty weird that we have both of them now in the Netherlands.
Yessss! More travel videos like this please! Reminds me of the “old school” videos that made me fall in love with this channel! Ps I’ve always wanted to go to Europe for the Christmas markets, as someone who always has to work close to/through the holidays I am looking forward to this series!!❤

A 30 minute video of Kara and Nate is the best Christmas present that you can get!!❤
Nate lets Kara hug more guys than he gets to hug girls lol, she holds the purse in the relationship
I like the people you met along the way. From the Uber driver who went well out of his way to the friendly food vendors to the guy patiently teaching Kara how to pronounce a long German word, it's the people who make the moment special.
Totally agree🎉
The Romanian food stall people were soo nice too! (I’m Romanian)
This feels like classic Kara and Nate and I love it so much!! Looking forward to the rest in the series for sure.
You’re never too old
You two make my day.❤❤❤
You can go! I would watch your videos of the adventure!!!
You're not too old
Hahahah the guy who corrected you in Germany was hysterical! He just fully inserted himself like girl you are so wrong I MUST say something hahaha
i loved that moment too. i adore her spirit😭
As a German, I immediately laughed out loud when Nate mentioned the transfer time in Munich. German efficiency definitely ends with trains. Never travel by train in Germany if you have appointments 🤣
As another German, I totally agree😂
It is not even funny, it is so bad. Never take a train in Germany.
German trains and English trains are to be avoided
Every German knows, DB is an absolute mess, no matter what season is.
To me several school shootings a week are insane, that's how different cultures are haha
Anyone else love a good ferris wheel flashback?! 😂
This is the perfect series for the holidays! I'm enjoying the Christmas spirit right along with you.
It's Saturday night in India and was just done with a rather rough day! This is the best way to end the day with hot chocolate before bed giving the Christmas vibes ✨😍
This feels so much like your old videos. I love it! I’ve been rewatching the first 2 years and realized I miss the markets and street food, so I’m happy to see this.
agree I prefer much more this content than the EXPENSIVE hotels, locations etc....
@@alejandrotapia5800 I like all of their videos but it’s nice getting back to their roots
I do love your big challenge videos, but these are my ultimate favourite videos from you, travelling around countries and experiencing the local atmosphere
Kara screaming because she was scared and then completely climbing on that fence 😂😂😂 You guys are so funny, sending lots of love from Uruguay 🇺🇾
Austria's kiss was so sweet!! You guys don't show that kind of PDA often and I could feel Nate's love!
I just wanted to explain that! So true😅
except it's december 6th in Belgium
As a Dutchie I came here to say the same. Sinterklaas and Santa are not the same thing here, thanks for explaining!
absolutely dying at kara’s krampus reactions 😂😂😂
she was loving getting whipped. I hope nate saw that lolz
This must be quite a disturbing experience 😂I definitely have a childhood trauma from Salzburg Krampusses 😂 I've been so afraid of them ever since - and there are even uglier ones 🙈
An yeah, the markets here in Austria are very special, very local and filled with craftsmanship which is so nice - I love them 😍
I've been to the Prague Christmas Market the past weekend and I saw you getting off your train in Prague as I was boarding mine 😊 It was so great seeing you guys in real life! Totally surreal but made my day! Hope you have a great time there 😊
Greetings from Austria 🌞
So sorry to see that you skipped Wroclaw (Poland), as it is so close to your route. We have one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe. I recommend you to go off the route and visit us, or visit Wrocław next year 🎄
They are not traveling in a circle. They may make it.
I am from the Midwest and we celebrate St, Nick here
In Belgium or the Netherlands he’s called Zwarte Piet
In Luxembourg they have the same tradition
The way they look at each other at 29:23 so full of love I’m crying 😭🥹🥺🩷🩷🩷
at 17:39 the way Kara says “the Krampus are coming” made me laugh so hard.
If you manage to di the trip you absolutely have to see Strasbourg and Colmar in France!! It's really close to Germany so not too far away.
Ohhh nooo you're skipping POLAND 😮 It has some of the best ones! I am doing a Christmas in Poland series right now. I fell in love with this country. 🇵🇱♥️ jestem w domu. Hope to invite you soon to show you the magic ✨️
Subscribing! Sold happy Vlogmas! ❤
I am Hungarian, but I live in Belgium for 7 years now, near Brussels in a small town Leuven. It is so interesting to see Europe from a different eye perspective!
This felt like an old Kara and Nate video which bring joy to my heart. Like a warm hug. Also the tiny Farris wheel at the end 😂
When Kara was being attacked, I literally had to put my hand over my mouth to keep from waking my husband. I laughed so hard, I was crying 😅😅😅
Same except I unsuccessfully tried not to wake my dog up.
Major side eye when I finally busted out laughing.
My friends and I did the Krampus run in the black forest and it was awesome. They do like to menace you, one even put glitter in my hair... which was interesting to get out.
Kara's travel dances are the best. I finally took a mini trip and attempted to replicate the infamous dance through the tunnel boarding bridge thing.
Probably my favorite series to date! Nothing beats Christmas in Europe. Makes me want to go back!!
as a former nuremberg local who now lives across the country it was a true heartwarming joy to watch you enjoy the market at townsquare. it is quite fun seeing another perspective on the city i grew up in. the gingerbread is to be said to been have invented in nuremberg and where it all started. the "angel" you can see everywhere, with the curls and wings is called "Christkind". child of christ or worldy christkid. whe is representing the good in the word and the reminder to be grateful and to give without judgment. there are alot of legends and stories around her and every 3/4 years there is election like pageant where girls from around to can audition to represent her, so open the christmasmarket on the sunday in dezember and travel around town. it's a whole spiel with pressconferences and meetings with the mayor and stuff. the town goes wild for her.
hope you enjoyed the town itself aswell, just a little but. the castle is beautiful and the view from up top is breathtaking.
Love you guys! I used to be 100% vegan so i get it but honestly, I liked your food reviews better when you ate all the local foods.
I was going to post the sand thing. Is not that I don’t understand/respect the life style change but I really really miss seeing/hearing about ALL the different food experience’s. I looked forward to all the food recommendations for when one day I get to travel
I truly enjoyed this video way more than recent ones. This reminds me of older videos that got me hooked. I love it!!
Coke Santa is seriously the best one. :)
We do the same thing in Romania :)
I cracked up so much at Nate's reference to Monthy Python!!! Such a classic!
29:24 "what did you wish for" *just stares at kara*
He got what he wished for ❤
I'm hooked on this series already. Plus I think it is nice how romantic they were being.
I enjoyed this video so much!
I am an Austrian living in the US and I really miss the traditional Christmas markets during December.
Thank you Kara and Nate for giving me a little bit of home 😍
Love you guys 🧡
That reminds me of 5 years ago Kara and Nate! Food tours and running around catching whatever ride you’re late for. Super nostalgic fun!
I also slightly love how Kara is being traumatized and Nate’s just laughing and filming … way to go Nate. You just won husband of the year lol. Poor Kara!
Listen closely,....he says "Take HER...take HER...."...haha
When you pop open a Kara and Nate video, you never know what you’re going to get, but you know it’s going to be awesome every time! ❤
Just finished the ep and LOLED so hard to the
Kara - “look at it look at it look at it”
Nate - “just a normal dog” 😂😂😂 so funny - great ep you guys!
Pommes frittes or just „pommes“ = fried potatoes
But then the USA gave it their own twist and then the Dutch and Belgians decided to celebrate BOTH
Dat wist ik niet eens. @@ourplantpantrydukaatje
The mushrooms he said were German! Also the trick for krampus is not to look scared, the more you react the more they target you😁
Not me watching this in October to get jazzed for the holidays coming up 🎄
Belgian Liege Waffles are one of the greatest things you can get with coffee. They're slowly getting more popular and it is awesome (also American here).
Kara's reaction to the Krampuses had me CRYING laughing.
Perfect winter morning, coffee, a lovely pastry and Kara and Nate’s newest video!!!!!

would be so cool! My ancestors are from Enkirch, and they made wine and wine barrels :)
This is so unbelievably entertaining!!! What a GREAT IDEA!!!! Love the GOOFINESS of you both too
This series is filling my heart with Christmas joy!
Santa is just like the rest of the world on 25th of december :)
They both look kind of the same but it's completely different! In Belgium people with children also place their Christmas trees only AFTER 6th of december because it would be rude to 'Sinterklaas'. ;)
Sinterklaas is a holiday just for children, where Santa and Christmas are for every age.
Big fan, thank you for coming to Belgium! Too bad I didn't get to meet you! xxx
The american Santa Claus was modelled after the dutch Sinterklaas though (including the name). In that regard it's pretty weird that we have both of them now in the Netherlands.
Playing catch up on my fave youtubers and OMG the krampus run looked like sooo much fun!! Kara had me cracking up 😂😂😂😂
Yessss! More travel videos like this please! Reminds me of the “old school” videos that made me fall in love with this channel!

I am a diehard K&N fan and never miss a week (rewatching 2023 because I just had surgery) and I am very health conscious not projecting insecurities here, I am not overweight-BUT hearing “feels fat”, “I’m going to be so big”, “last bike ride so last day I can enjoy this guilt-free” and all that gets a little old each episode.
Just enjoy the food. It is a part of the culture you are in and sharing with us.

Loving these Christmas market experiences! And also, they feel like the old Kara & Nate times
This is my favorite video that you have ever made ! It took me back to 1976-1978 when we lived in Germany and went to the Christmas markets plus travel around Germany and also spent four wonderful days in Salzburg. Thank you for the memories ♥️
Yeah, you made to Nürnberg! And it was a tough week to travel with the snow chaos and the strike!
I love this idea! I've always wanted to go to a European Christmas market, and this checks ALL the boxes! I get to see them all! I'm sooo excited.
*P.S. I love that Christmas intro graphic!! Well done, fx department!*
Would be even better if you could get the smells through the videos. It's spicy, fruity, sugary and greasy all at the same time. It's the most magical thing! Merry christmas from Leipzig, Germany!
Love that you bring out "the monty python bring out your dead". As a British girl, not many people understand our humour 😂😂😂 CLASSIC! Great vid by the way!
This was fun! I never realized I wanted to see all of these places lol. Glad you guys are doing a legit Christmas themed series!
Oh, we have hot wine with spices here in Brazil too. We call it “quentão”, but here we drink it in a fall festival, not winter
Just as the video was coming to an end, and I start thinking to myself "aw this feels like an olllld oldschool K+N video" Kara drops a perfectly timed, not-so-subtle ferris wheel easter egg. Nicely done, you two. Prost!
