man gotta love that flat calm, and griffin showing some interest! I’m headed out on a trip with jot owens next week, hoping to load up on some gator trout. since I dont have a boat its tough to get to most of the spots they hang out in.
It was the best conditions that I've ever been out on... Man, here is a secret. Get you a little John boat with a 9.9 and learn Fort Fisher. You can catch every inshore species down there and you won't need a guide anymore. I get it that its cheaper to go with the guide in the long run but there is something special about doing it on your own too. Either way, Glad you are getting to go.

Haha. You must have done this before.... Luckily it was only about $60 each in gas but we got a ton of meat for the freezer. So much fun.

The key is just finding the feeding fish. We probably tried 5 spots before they started biting…
I'm trying to learn how to surf cast off Wrightsville beach... I know where to get my tides, temps, winds, etc.... but, any suggestions how I can find out the surf conditions (i.e., glassy like that).. without heading all the way down to the beach? Is there a good Cam or some website worth following?

Thanks so much buddy. We started catching good fish around 10 miles and worked out to about 30.
I fish similar waters to you. How are you finding bait to throw the sabiki at? What depth of water, etc? I am new to offshore and I go out of new river inlet and i'm having a hard time filling the livewell on the way out.
I pull most of my bait off of the jetty itself.
You shouldn’t need to upgrade to bigger line. We use 50# braid to 60# leader. I tie two hook rigs with 60# and grouper rigs with 100#. Sharks are one thing. They’ll break when big. Big Jacks can stress you too.
Grouper can get rocked up but they’ll come out eventually.

I’m thinking 72” will work for my Mako. Going back and forth from 80lb or 112lb. I’m hoping to get one this winter.
Thanks, Sean. It sounds like they are back in stock everywhere but I got mine out of Morehead City. Marine Rigging and Supply. Ask for Nick if you go that route. My model is the 72”, 80lb, Terrova and it holds spot lock fine so far. We will see about how it handles in current here shortly but so far so good.

Where there is grunt there is grouper they live on that hard bottom gonna try Friday for some abs and Spanish any idea where they been ?
I fished this morning and it seems the cold front pushed everything out. Only caught three blues and a Spanish.
