That first scene where John Wayne starts talking and that southern drawl comes out just had me in stitches. It's like Temujin just walked out of a saloon somewhere. Way to phone it in, Mr. Wayne.
John Wayne was quoted as saying he felt this movie was just like a Western and that was how he was going to play Temujin, as a cowboy - hero type character.
I honestly almost never have any interest in the movies you watch, I just tune in because I like you guys and even when I have no interest in the movie I still find your commentary engaging. I've been watching since the first episode and have yet to miss an episode, keep up the good work.
Matt summed up why I watch this show at the beginning very well. been here since ep 3 and have no plans of stopping......and yes it is very entertaining. (thumb kiss)
This show has actually made me watch films that I have never seen or even heard of for that matter. So watching every episode is vital for me. I bought the Criterion edition of Things to Come based on the episode of Welcome to the Basement. So thank you. Thank you so very much.
just to show you the other side: im not a cinephile, in my top 10 of movies are 2 pirates of the caribbean and an indie drama etc etc i suck at movies i know, but i love your show and i watch every episode no matter what the movie just because you two are so enthusiastic about the movies, have a great synergy and put on a great entertaining show every time, plus i often get bored while watching movies, but your show is a great summary of a movie and i often end up watching the ones you watched if i liked what i saw :3... just wanted to let you know that not everyone is picky with the episodes ;3
thank you for watching this movie so I didn't have to - great ep! As an aside, I watched a documentary on Genghis Khan - oddly enough Mongolians say the name more like they did in the movie. Comes out more like Chengis.
Oh, The Assassin. I saw it in a nearby theater (one of the benefits of city life). It's a really achingly gorgeous beautiful film, but so slow and confusing that both my wife and I struggled to stay awake through it. Not nearly enough assassinating, in our opinion. Hey, you read my Seen It about Repo Man! The first name is actually pronounced may'-lin, (like "Mail in your order today!"), but still, exciting! I had _not_ heard the Modern Lovers version of that song, so thanks for that.
The very first scene that they filmed where John Wayne opened his mouth the entire production team should have stopped and asked themselves, "Are we really doing this? Are we really going to film an entire movie with this guy playing Genghis Khan with that accent? Really?"
Craig was on point in this episode! I laughed out loud at the crossword puzzle, Busby Berkeley movies, and Ferris Bueller references, among many other jokes. Great episode guys! And I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on The Assassin, I didn't think it was that bad...it's a bit tedious in parts, but the visuals are pretty stunning.
I'm offended by assassins. He better not do it, or I'll have to sit it out. And nobody wants.... and not many people want.... and one or two people don't want.... I don't want that.
i remember loving The Park Is Mine. i haven't watched it in a very long time but i have fond memories of it. i'm afraid to go back and watch it because my memories might be ripped to shreds
I'd cast someone Asian, preferably from the same region of the world as the real Khan was. Ditto the rest of the cast. Someone who can pull off Wayne's menacing stare.
Revisiting this episode, I wish you guys would watch Sergei Bodrov's Mongol (2008). It's a far better and more interesting movie about the rise and early life of Genghis Khan. All the performers in the movie speak Mongolian and, though it still relishes the "legendary" aspect of Genghis Khan's life, it's a brutal and more historically detailed depiction.
1:10 It has Cage! CAAAGEEE! Cage is awesome! 11:20 it is now Another fantastic video. Welcome to the Basement is my favorite part of Blamesociety. Keep em coming! 23:05 The face is getting red. haha
Craig is so adorable, he's like a cartoon. And matt is like a character in the cartoon who will break the forth wall. maybe one day I will make a cartoon about you guys
Have you ever seen the epic buddy movie The Man Who Would be King? A story about two friends on an adventure staring two of the most legendary friends, Sean Connery and Michael Caine.
GUYS, I'm not comparing ACTING SKILLS of these two men, I'm comparing their relative place as blockbuster movie stars of their eras, and comparing how they each get put into movies that weren't really suited to their persona's on-screen or off. John Wayne WAS his era's equivalent of Arnold. And yes... Jingle All the Way had SINBAD in it.. so of course it's gonna be WORSE.
I actually loved the fact that ppl in this movie didn't try to do any offensive 'Mongolian' accents. And by 'offensive' I simply mean trying to imitate what the language sounds like to a non-speaker. I never understood that about Hollywood cinema.
Alright I can't take it anymore. Whatever key light you have training on Craig from his lower left has too much yellow in it. Craig looks like he has Jaundice. Craig's a strapping, healthy specimen of a man, don't sicken him to the viewer. Absolutely love the show, I await each episode and often I find the need to go back and watch older episodes so that I can get my fix. Two Thump kisses to you.-- David Ketcherside
Being a history major makes me realize all the missed opportunities in film. The origin of Genghis Khan is great and all, but what about a movie about his greatest commander Subutai? Subutai was possibly the greatest general in human history, he fought over 200 battles without losing a single one, conquered 32 countries, and performed many other incredible acts of martial tact and prowess such as when he took 10,000 men on a scouting mission to the west and ended up crippling the militaries of Georgia and Kievan Russia. The man was also a genius planner, he planned the campaign that destroyed the armies of Hungary and Poland within two days of each other, by forces over five hundred kilometers apart. But instead we get a movie about a bunch of white folk stumbling over Mongolian names for 2 hours.
You mention the Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra, which I also found insufferable, but the Claudette Colbert version directed by Cecil B. DeMille is wonderful. Seen it? Also, I've been watching for a long time and , as an improv performer and film buff, love this show. Keep it up.
Have you guys seen The Last Wave by Peter Weir? I watched it recently and it's fantastic. It's a perfect example of how to blend suspense with slight amounts of psychological horror, and it stayed intriguing the whole time. The fact that Richard Chamberlain is in it doesn't hurt either.
"Stupid Mongolians they come and break my Schitty Wall"! I've seen a lot of John Wayne films, like you Matt my Dad is a huge fan of John Wayne movies, but I've never seen this one (thankfully) When you mentioned that you were going to review a Wayne picture I was hoping for "The Searchers" that's my favorite John Wayne. Still I really enjoyed this review, and I'll probably still watch this movie, even though I know it's going to be bad, thanks you guys :D
That book Craig mentioned (Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World) is really, really good. I didn't have any particular interest in the era and finished the book completely amazed by by this period of history that I knew nothing about.
Have you guys seen 1998's Ronin? It mixes action, spies and complexity in such an enjoyable way. It would be great for this show, as it might generate a similar response as experienced in the "Heat" WTB episode.
The only John Wayne movie I have ever really loved was The Quiet Man... and that might just be because of Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond and Maureen O'Hara. I kind of want to watch it again and see how I really feel about his performance.
The timing of watching a movie where John Wayne plays an Asian man could not be any more appropriate with the news of Scarlet Johansson's role as an Asian character in the Ghost in the Shell adaption.
About John Wayne's Smoking habit, did you see "The Quiet Man"? He smokes, like a dozen cigarettes in that film, but only takes one puff before he tosses it.
Yul Brynner was probably filming The King and I or Ten Commandments when this was made but he would have made a great Genghis Khan. Keye Luke would have also been the right age at the time - he didn’t nearly get enough good films to show his skills but he is great in the Phantom of Chinatown
Almost every episode of this show is a movie I have no idea what to expect and have no desire in watching. But I watch every episode because there is so many movies I have got into so many new directors and new genres all together, the idea of not wanting to watch a review on this show is something I don't understand
Omar Sharif did play Genghis Khan 11 years later and while it was supposedly a success. I do find the fact that John Wayne's The Conqueror did not have blond haired blue-eyed Mongols in his horde a plus in his favour over Omar Sharif's Genghis Khan.
I agree tell us about The Assassin. Personally I thought it had wonderful cinematography and sound design, but outside of that the plot was non existent.
Seen it ?? City of God , one of the best brazilian movie ever made and I'm sure that one of the best movie made in South America , it can be a bit violent but then again , that's the reality of the shantytowns in Brazil .
Have either of you seen Scorsese's "The King of Comedy"? I watched it recently and really liked it. Straddles the line between being goofy and creepy. Also, I didn't grow up with Jerry Lewis, but it's still pretty interesting to watch him say "Goddammit."
That first scene where John Wayne starts talking and that southern drawl comes out just had me in stitches. It's like Temujin just walked out of a saloon somewhere. Way to phone it in, Mr. Wayne.
Felton Melton no kidding? haha
John Wayne was quoted as saying he felt this movie was just like a Western and that was how he was going to play Temujin, as a cowboy - hero type character.
Boring, exciting, intriguing, awful. It doesn't matter the kind of movie, because you two are always so entertaining. Keep up the great work fellas.
I honestly almost never have any interest in the movies you watch, I just tune in because I like you guys and even when I have no interest in the movie I still find your commentary engaging. I've been watching since the first episode and have yet to miss an episode, keep up the good work.
your review of "left behind" was hilarious
Matt summed up why I watch this show at the beginning very well. been here since ep 3 and have no plans of stopping......and yes it is very entertaining. (thumb kiss)

How are there only 180 comments ???
This is gold !
Check this sh!t out... It's a year later and there are FEWER than 180 comments. Were you rounding up? 😂🤣😂
This movie was included in Michael Medved's book "The 50 Worst Films Of All Time ( and how they got that way)" .
After its appearance on "Seen-it" and seemingly every other section of my life, I sat down and watched Meet the Feebles.
It was an experience.
Y'know why I love this show so damn much? You guys are so clearly enjoying each other's company, the good time is infectious.
just to show you the other side: im not a cinephile, in my top 10 of movies are 2 pirates of the caribbean and an indie drama etc etc i suck at movies i know, but i love your show and i watch every episode no matter what the movie just because you two are so enthusiastic about the movies, have a great synergy and put on a great entertaining show every time, plus i often get bored while watching movies, but your show is a great summary of a movie and i often end up watching the ones you watched if i liked what i saw :3... just wanted to let you know that not everyone is picky with the episodes ;3
I love this show. Its like a special treat every week.
thank you for watching this movie so I didn't have to - great ep! As an aside, I watched a documentary on Genghis Khan - oddly enough Mongolians say the name more like they did in the movie. Comes out more like Chengis.
I've being randomly rewatching this series, love them all! Great to relax at the end of the day and have a laugh. Thank you Matt and Craig :)
The worse the film the better the episode! Love it!
Liked this video just after watching the opening. It was just that good.
Seen it the Assassin
The very first scene that they filmed where John Wayne opened his mouth the entire production team should have stopped and asked themselves, "Are we really doing this? Are we really going to film an entire movie with this guy playing Genghis Khan with that accent? Really?"

Have you seen the assassin you should tell us about it matt
+jackisking143 They should watch the film Mongol (2007). It's basically the good version of The Conqueror.
+jackisking143 The Assassin was a Plame d'or bait and boring as fuck. I hope that they feel the same way
I'm offended by assassins. He better not do it, or I'll have to sit it out. And nobody wants.... and not many people want.... and one or two people don't want.... I don't want that.
I watch ALL the episodes, and I've seen very few of the movies!
The line," I greet you my mother !" 😂😂😂
Excellent video guys! Keep it coming!
For some reason, the "Jamoga Jamoga Jamoga" always gets me
i remember loving The Park Is Mine. i haven't watched it in a very long time but i have fond memories of it. i'm afraid to go back and watch it because my memories might be ripped to shreds
You put such a huge smile on my face at the beginning, with those funny faces :)
Well done guys - Another great episode!
According to google the mongolian word for pilgrim is мөргөлчин (mörgölchin).
I'd love to see this movie remade today, with Vin Diesel as Genghis Khan.
I'd cast someone Asian, preferably from the same region of the world as the real Khan was. Ditto the rest of the cast. Someone who can pull off Wayne's menacing stare.
When I dont like a movie you guys watch, its still always nice to hear your opinions and sometimes, the stuff you guys noticed that I didnt.
I wouldn't mind a review of "The Final Sacrifice" (MST3K version) with Canada's Chuck Norris: Rowsdower.
I think one of cool parts of the show is the back stories and facts Matt reads about each movie after revealing them.
Zero dislikes so far - that's how good you guys are!

11:20 it is now
Another fantastic video. Welcome to the Basement is my favorite part of Blamesociety. Keep em coming!
23:05 The face is getting red. haha
That Black Sabbath Album cover - Paranoid :3.
"She doesn't like Tartars, because a Tartar killed her husband." And they stick to your teeth!
I loathe the movie left behind but that didn't stop me from watching your review. It was awesome...just like always.
Craig is so adorable, he's like a cartoon. And matt is like a character in the cartoon who will break the forth wall. maybe one day I will make a cartoon about you guys
Seen it? Ghostbusters , I love that movie. I've seen it over 100 times.
Have you ever seen the epic buddy movie The Man Who Would be King? A story about two friends on an adventure staring two of the most legendary friends, Sean Connery and Michael Caine.
Great Record
6:44 well ..She did have HUGE...tracts of land. Everybody have fun tonight..Everybody Wayne Kahn tonight

I enjoy movies that I never seen or seen and are horrible. That is the best part of WttB.

"There's one star in a 'Helen Lawson' production and that's Helen Lawson! And that's me baby, remember?!"
John Wayne was the Arnold Schwarzenegger of his era.
i think schwarzenegger actually has a bigger range than john wayne.
I want so see movie posters for Schwarzenegger films with John Wayne in them instead. :P
+Jacemachine Gaming jingle all the way is still worse then this movie
GUYS, I'm not comparing ACTING SKILLS of these two men, I'm comparing their relative place as blockbuster movie stars of their eras, and comparing how they each get put into movies that weren't really suited to their persona's on-screen or off. John Wayne WAS his era's equivalent of Arnold.

Watch Mongol (2007), guys. It's the same story, done well, far more cohesive, insightful, and considerably more historically accurate.
Alright I can't take it anymore. Whatever key light you have training on Craig from his lower left has too much yellow in it. Craig looks like he has Jaundice. Craig's a strapping, healthy specimen of a man, don't sicken him to the viewer. i love you guys and your reviews any chance of watching ghost in the shell original
It appears as though Matt was holding back vomit as he discussed Short Circuit....hmmm
+Ethan Gabriel I had just had an unrelated coughing fit
I laughed for way too long at the "refresh yourself, before you wreck yourself" joke.
I get a little Genghis Khan, don't want you to get it on with nobody else but me....
Sorry. That's my contribution to this comment section.
Being a history major makes me realize all the missed opportunities in film. The origin of Genghis Khan is great and all, but what about a movie about his greatest commander Subutai? Yes, I got Anthony Quinn in one!

You guys looked exhausted after this watch. Must have been taxing on the mind.

+rebelsatcloudnine Watch the Searchers again, or Stagecoach, or whatever, but you really don't have to watch this movie.
That book Craig mentioned (Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World) is really, really good. I didn't have any particular interest in the era and finished the book completely amazed by by this period of history that I knew nothing about.
Craig kind of looks like one of the guitarists in the Jackson Browne "Somebody's Baby" video.
Nice Vinyl Black Sabbath Paranoid album Cover in the backround!!😈
Have you guys seen 1998's Ronin? It mixes action, spies and complexity in such an enjoyable way. It would be great for this show, as it might generate a similar response as experienced in the "Heat" WTB episode.

My brain went a different direction with 'the worm of distrust'...
The timing of watching a movie where John Wayne plays an Asian man could not be any more appropriate with the news of Scarlet Johansson's role as an Asian character in the Ghost in the Shell adaption.
22:08 hey it's ernesto
I love Dschinghis Khan

I'm a Roman Catholic and that episode (Rapture) wasn't offensive at all. Then again, it takes A LOT to offend me.
+F SM that's what I like to hear
+BlameSociety I dont belive in being offended
Omar Sharif did play Genghis Khan 11 years later and while it was supposedly a success. I do find the fact that John Wayne's The Conqueror did not have blond haired blue-eyed Mongols in his horde a plus in his favour over Omar Sharif's Genghis Khan.
JOhnny Five..wasn't that the drivers name in Inside Llewyn Davis?
Did you guys saw 'Mongol' from 2007? Thought it was great!
Is Matt okay? His eye look overly-glassy. I hope he is well.
I agree tell us about The Assassin. Personally I thought it had wonderful cinematography and sound design, but outside of that the plot was non existent.
Have either of you seen "Repo! The Genetic Opera?"
Have you seen: Spirited Away? or any Miyazaki films?
Have you seen To Live and Die in L.A?
hey did anyone else notice the black Sabbath album Paranoid in the background?
Have you ever seen Repo! The Genetic Opera?
also seen it, The Abominable Dr. Phibes? I'm never going to give up asking this
Have you seen "Tetsuo - The Iron Man" '89 by Shin’ya Tsukamoto?
Have you seen A Boy and His Dog, if so, do you think a movie like that could be made today?
Hay Matt, do you get "You look like Orson Wells" a lot?
Seen it ?? City of God , one of the best brazilian movie ever made and I'm sure that one of the best movie made in South America , it can be a bit violent but then again , that's the reality of the shantytowns in Brazil .
