I have been using high grade Berberine for over 1.5 yrs now and it hasn’t done squat for my A1C. Stayed at 5.9 year over year. I am changing up my strategy. I wear a CGM and the best supplements that I have found recently to blunt my glucose response has been some ACV and/or fiber before a carby meal. Another thing that seems to work is to eat some salad or veggies or protein right before the meal. I am also on a Keto-vore diet now. Basically low-to-no carb diet. But the very best thing by far is talking a brisk walk after eating. It crushes the glucose spikes.
Just take two tablespoons of unflavored psyllium husk with a small glass of water, swallow it down quickly before it starts jelling, then immediately drink about 12 oz of water, then eat whatever ya want Works perfectly
Excellent presentation, as always. Been taking psyllium for some time now and I think it has helped keep A1C manageable. I believe it also has help reduce any bowel issues I have been having. Naturlax seems to be bit expensive. I buy Now Foods Psyllium at local Trader Joes for a lot less.
Great question - I actually considered running that experiment but figured there's only so much you can cram into one video. Theoretically it would smooth out the spike a bit. Not sure by how much, but worth trying. Thanks for the question!
Organic Psyllium husk all the way, don't forget to drink plenty of water when adding Psyllium. And why pay for a name and additives? I would rather pay for organic than flavor. I buy it either in the bulk isle when I can find it organic, or through a company called National Nutrition on line. These products are sweetened with erythritol, which is an called natural but is a man made, artificial sweetener, which MAY make blood platelets prone to clotting, which could affect blood pressure, and cause clotting, leading to a stroke.
Dr. Clayton, thank you for your insights. I am curious. Would there be additional advantages to taking all three of your choices here? Or would that be unnecessary duplication? Thank you again--your work here is very welcome.
Interesting idea. They all work via different pathways so conceivably they would be additive. For sure berberine and fiber/mulberry extract would be additive. Not sure about the Level Off and Fiber together though, since they both work to slow absorption. Good question!
Great question! While I didn't test that theory, it is likely that berberine and either fiber OR mulberry extract would be additive. Not sure about the Level Off and Fiber together though, since they both work to slow absorption. Thanks for watching!
My guess is that together the effect wouldn't be as great - they both have similar action to slow absorption. If I were to combine them I'd pair berberine with either the level off or fiber. Thanks for watching!
I did each test on an empty stomach, not quite fasting but at least 3-4 hours after another meal and I waited until the baseline had stabilized. Good question and thanks for watching!

I appreciate his practical scientific approach - very helpful!

Thank you DR. Clayton👏😉👍
You are very welcome
Thanks Doc, very good comparisons. What would the spike show if you had added 10mL of olive oil to the rice?

Much appreciated!! BTW, I like the beard!! 👍
That means a lot - my wife has been complaining all week!
@@drdaveclayton Try trimming your beard a little closer " Shorter".... See what your wife thinks then? 🤔

Hi Dave, how much of psyllium husk did you take?
Thank you for making yourself a guinea pig on our behalf. I appreciate your hard work.
LOL! You're welcome! The things we do for science...
great ,helpful video,Thank you
Thank you!
Does taking all of them improve the results?

@@drdaveclayton Thank you 😁
Thank you! It would be interesting to know if using together fiber and level off leads to bigger reductions is glucose spikes.

Seems like Level Off works similarly to the drug Acarbose, which is the most common prescription drug for diabetes in China.
Great point...we hardly use that so it didn't occur to me. Thanks for the share!
Were you fasting when you did this test?
