Looking at the Lions it's easy to say the team started to turn when Brad Holmes and MCDC got to the team, and they deserve every bit of praise they have received, BUT the real turn was when the ownership changed from Martha Ford to Sheila Ford. The entire attitude of the team and direction changed and that's when Brad Holmes and MCDC were brought on board. Jerry is the biggest liability to the Cowboys franchise and I don't think that's even close to a hot-take.

Lions miss the playoffs as their defense falls apart without Hutch is far more likely. Bears fall apart because after next week their schedule actually gets tough is far more likely. Either way Packers win the Super Bowl

Yup, to think the Vikings lose 3 more games than the Packers and 2 more than the Bears over the rest of the season is crazy unless the wheels fall off and Vikings get hit by the injury bug. As someone else mentioned, it's more likely the Lions defense falls apart without AH.

Hot take - these first 5 weeks will be the Vikes floor, not their ceiling.
Remember Darnold has only been in this scheme with these playmakers for 5 weeks. This week will be the first time he has practiced with Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson. The Flores defence is integrating 12 new players into the starting defensive rotation. This Vikes team is very new and they should improve with every week as they build combinations and the scheme becomes more intuitive.

100%. They still haven't clicked that the Vikes are a very, very new team and should get better with every week together and with the playbook. I think the Vikes will beat the Lions pretty easily, the O Line having few problems with the Lions innocuous pass rush, giving Sam plenty of time to find Jettas and Addison. I think Vikes will defend the run a lot better than the Lions expect, and the non-stop pass rush rotation to cause Goff issues all game. 35-14 Vikes.

  • @DMJoeBing

Word from people close to Hutch is he'll be back by the Super Bowl, according to 97.1 and the Detroit News. Supposedly it's not as bad as his 2020 injury at Michigan.
As a Lions fan, I'm not holding my breath. 12 weeks is the minimum recovery time for a tib-fib, and that's for a minor break and zero complications and an insane healing ability. His break looks anything but minor from the video.
But if anyone can do it, it's the beast that still pulled Dak onto the broken leg after he lost grip. Even through the pain, he finished the sack. That's GRIT.

The Vikings one at least has plenty of precedent, even if it seems ridiculous right now (I'm struggling to see it even if Darnold completely sputters out, tbh). I think a more interesting debate would have been whether this game was the 3rd most important of Rogers' career after his SB and the NFC championship game against Brady's Bucs. Not to imply that Brady is a whole team or that any one person can be, but that 7th SB win for Brady, coming against Mahomes and having just beat Rogers and Brees really set his legacy at an insane level. That game was the chance to take ownership of the league's premiere face from Brady. Instead he goes down (even with Brady's terrible 2nd half), the Bucs beat the Chiefs and after a year of confusion it's clear that Mahomes inherits the "Face of the NFL's greatness" from Brady. (Aaron Donald as a non-quarterback in a QB-focussed league had a chance to take it from Brady which would have been a hell of a thing, but his Rams lost.) Rogers wanted to be ThatGuy, and he wasn't and now he never will be.
This MNF game didn't give (or cost) Rogers a Superb Owl, and it didn't win him or lose him the coveted "Face of the League's Greatness" (unofficial) title, but that game had the chance of ending his career. Kaput, over, done. Rogers has never faced a game like that before. Never. He played behind The Gunslinger, and so even if he played poorly in relief, there was always time to let him mature and develop behind Favre. None of those early games could have ended him. And when he moved into the starting spot, we know now and they knew then that Rogers had a special arm. One or even a few bad games were not going to kill his career once he became Green Bay's starter.
This was different. He's had his mulligan with an injury year (or call it redshirting if you don't like mixing sports metaphors). The coach has been fired. Rogers was brought in to win the division and make noise in the playoffs. He himself is playing to win a Super Bowl (though obviously Jets fans standards are not as high, at least for surviving Jets fans). There's nothing left for him in the NFL if he can't dominate his division. This is why Brady left, too. Brady still was a competent starting quarterback, and under him the Bucs would have been competitive in their division. But there was nothing left for Brady except winning another Super Bowl. When that was no longer reasonably possible, he hung it up.
Rogers is there. He has nothing to play for except Super Bowls and legacy-changing games, and bless him, but with the Jets he can't do it. Maybe he could with another team, but he'll never get another chance to go to another club and start over.
Monday night was his chance to show that he still had something left to play for, that there was still some reason for his career to continue. I haven't watched the game, and I know it was close, but he's not playing to lose competitively. If he can't beat division opponents at home, his career is over.
And, of course, the conversation you had was prospective. The close game might make my case somewhat arguable, but in the prospective conversation about how important that game was, that would just be moving the goalposts. The threat to his career would be the same, the importance of the game would be the same, you would just be arguing that he needed to be blown out for his career to be over and just reasonably compete at home to maintain an interest in football.
I don't think that Rogers can maintain his focus if he can't be the best. I think we've seen that in other years. I actually think it says something good about him that football is not the only thing in life that he cares about. But he's rich and he's over 40 and continued play risks an injury that can affect his quality of life for every day he has remaining in this world. He has a lot to lose and he no longer has anything to win.
This MNF game was the very last relevant game of Rogers' career.

26:23 I agree, though I think it has more to do with the fact that through the first six years of his NFL career Lamar WAS the Ravens offense. Now Derrick Henry is a massive part of the offense and people will you use that to discredit Lamar's production. With that said, it is not an overreaction to say that Lamar will win his 3rd MVP because I think there are two clear ways he could do so.
    1. The Ravens get the No.1 seed in the AFC
    AND/OR
    2. Lamar becomes the first player in NFL history to have 4k+ passing yards and 1k+ rushing yards.
Like how with Tyreek if he had gotten 2k receiving yards he would have been the OPOY over CMC, a stat like that would make Lamar the undisputed MVP imo.

Only two teams in the NFC have given up 100 points or fewer through week 6 - Vikings and Lions. Only one other team is within 5 points of 100, the Chicago Bears at 101. The Packers have given up 121, tied with the Giants.
All four might not make it to the playoffs, but there is a real strong case that 3 teams from the North make the playoffs.
