- Doctor Who's most epic undertaking since its inception, The Daleks' Master Plan is a 12-part juggernaut which sees the returns of the Daleks and the Meddling Monk, it sees the dramatic departures of TWO companions (one of whom only joined in this story) and it takes in lots of different planets, killer plants, Ancient Egypt AND one of the show's wildest swings in what is technically its first Christmas Special...
So the story crams a lot in, but does it succeed? Let's find out...

Arguably more so then Susan and Vicki, Katarina and Sara are such interesting ideas for companions, it feels like a shame we had to lose them so soon, I would love it if the modern series had a companion from the past or the future soon but they seem to only want present day ones these days.
I think if they'd committed then Katarina and the First Doctor could have been an all-time great pairing
The first six episodes are pretty marvelous. Feast of Steven is nuts, but clearly the first Who Christmas special and just fun. If only we could see it. Then Volcano is just lovely. So very fun and loopy. It does what so much of The Chase wanted to do but actually really fun. Then the Egypt section hits and it starts to finally feel stale in Counterplot. Fortunately the last two episodes are fantastic. I can easily see being thrilled by this epic from week to week for three months in 65/66.
Masterplan is top 10 of all time for me.
I usually watch it as a 5 and 7 episode split over 2 days rather than all 12 parts at once. Hopefully this will get animated one day
Well, the year after next is the story's 60th anniversary so you never know...
When this epic is animated, they should split it in half, for budget, with MttU (the university recon) -even the Target books, divided the story.

Rather interesting you seeming to go back and forth on whether to include Feast of Steven into Daleks' Master Plan as if the story was meant to be looked at as a whole. I know we can do things in hindsight and independent from what the producers intended, but I can't help but look at Feast of Steven as removed from the overall story in a way that that it doesn't really take away from the drama at all. I suppose it's worth looking at all this as a whole 12 epic in the first place since it seems more like each episode in general is meant to be each its own standalone showing with only a very vague plot line overlaid on top. I dunno, I guess that episode never really took away from the death and drama happening even with the understanding it was meant to be a throwaway Christmas episode.
I love this story although Feast of Stephen is a bit difficult to follow on audio even with recons. For me episode 12 is the one I most want to see returned. It is a fantastic ending to this long story (makes up for Key to Time and Trial which have rubbish endings). And I met Adrienne Hill and Jacqueline Hill at their only ever convention attendance in 1985. They were lovely and sorely missed.

I watched a fan animation of this story and watched the surviving episodes then back to the fan animation and enjoyed it but would off edited out the Z Car thing, the cricket part and the Egyptians and just keep the Dalek and Mavic Chen parts from those episodes. I watched it all in one sitting and found the Police, Cricket parts so boring and the Egyptians didn't need to be there. Mavic Chen just oozed ignorance and smugness - loved this villain. He dominated every scene he was in and would love for this story to be found - well except for the episodes and parts I don't like lol.
Vicki should have been the one to die in this story...it's a hill I will die on 🤭🤭🤭 DMP needs to be animated asap. It would be awesome with the expanded sets animation can do. I can happily sit through the War Games in one sitting and would sit through the Daleks Masterplan in one go if it got animated
Well 2025 will be the story's 60th anniversary. They did Power for its 50th so you never know... Feels like if it's happening any time soon it'll be 2025...
