Didn't think that watching someone play Talisman can be so enjoyable and relaxing. Brings back the nostalgia and memories of playing the Polish edition (which was kind of poor mans version of this one - though it had its charm too) with my brother in the early nineties and seeing all the differences and similarities. Discovered your channel recently and digging your old school approach to things. Keep it up pls.
@@TheDungeonDive yeah, it did. My guess is that Polish publisher - SFera got the license but couldn't afford the art so they had to redo it. For example the board looks like someone redrew it as a copy of this one. The cards had different art (all black and white) and i guess they changed a lot of them and added new ones. Also Polish edition had it's exclusive expansion - Jaskinia (the Cave) which as far the gossip goes they did without permission from Games Workshop and it was the reason why GW has cut the license. In Poland this game has a cult status and was a gateway to serious gaming for a whole generation - me included.
@@TheDungeonDive yes, it was in the early nineties. I was about 8 or 9 years old. Saw the game in a local toy store and bought it with my pocket money. Still remember the awe i felt when I opened the box. It was like entering a different world.
The Dungeon Dive in what way though? That’s what i’m interested in. We used to outlaw the raiders card because it was too gutting for the player that drew it. I think I understand why you would want slightly less random elements as it adds gameplay to something thats basically rolling dice. I didn’t get why you wanted there to be more opportunities to improve characteristics - was that to speed things up? As a longtime Talisman player i’m interested in adding house rules, just wondered what they add to the game for you :)
Speeding up the game is a big part of it. I just think of things while I’m playing that would allow me to have more fun, and then think of ways to implement those things. Really it just comes down to making the game more fun for me. I’m not trying to fix anything or anything like that.
Hey there, great video - you may wanna check out this solo variant and see if you want to adopt these rules into your game - boardgamegeek.com/thread/710696/easy-talisman-solo-variant

Thanks! I have some bootleg Talisman files around somewhere that we’re based on the Polish version of the game. Seemed to have some alternate art.

Did you play the Polish version when it was new? What a neat little tidbit of gaming history.

Great video as per usual. The Don Rosa stuff is so good. I mean Barks is obviously great, but Don Rosa's stories contain so much detail!
Yeah. His art is so good. So many little details to notice.
Play a event card when you run out of number cards and redraw, or making redraw at any time cost a event card.
That’s a good suggestion. I’ll keep that in mind.
@@TheDungeonDive Im a old fan of making games fit by changing them, just no cheating hehe.
I would have a hard time thinking of a game like this that I play without any house rules.
I remember a very similar comic book with Huey, Dewie and Louie when I was young! Something else to add to my 'comics to read' list. :)
That was probably one of the original Carl Banks duck comics.
Could you explain the reasons behind the various house rules please?
idiotproofdalek makes the game more fun for me.

The Dungeon Dive thanks!
What are your win/lose conditions? I am assuming just not die and make it to the crown of command? Stay safe and healthy! You are not alone!
Yeah. Just to see if I can make it the end card without dying. It’s no so much about winning and losing. More about a way to have some fun. :)
