As a Syracuse guy, a really good overview and I hope you have a good time at the game. People are generally welcoming to visiting fans at tailgates etc.. SU is a primarily run first offense which surprised me throwing so much last week. I think that is because Ohio presented a defense trying to keep everything in front of them. First game with a new staff and new schemes, it was a good first look at SU and clearly showed some strengths and weaknesses that need to be fixed. It will be an interesting game for sure and spring board the team that wins.

While i understand Vegas's stance, I think our pass rush can get home and that the D looks pretty good against the Orange(men) of upstate New York. Should be a good game, and hopefully the Jackets end the day 3-0
when u compare how fsu looked and played at the beginning of the two games, vs Tech they came out a hot ball of raging revenge tour world beaters and vs BC they came out like a dusty dry fart. tech may have broken them mentally and ruined their fantasy of running the table. just my take

My BIGGEST gripe w Key is GET Haynes King out of the game earlier! I dont like seeing him playing (and running mind you) down to the last 5 mins when we are up 3 or 4 scores.
Syracuse defense isn't very good. We should be able to run the ball and control the clock. I think we win by 10.

My take is that it will be a great came and Tech to win by 3. We didn’t look to good against Georgia State till the second half. I think SU will tear us up in the air but our run game will run out the clock and we will pull it off by 3.

Our defense is still a work in progress. Red Flags, we didn't get any pressure on the GSU QB... I have to believe that Cuse has a better offensive line. Hey, anybody can win this game...
you didn't consider that Georgia Tech is playing in one of the loudest hostile stadiums ever and it's been 2 years since they played there. Georgia Tech players and coaches aren't even going to be able to hear each other. I would put Georgia Tech as the winner if playing in Atlanta, but in Syracuse I don't think Tech's going to pull it out. And I think that's typically how it goes in the past.

I appreciate your insights. A lot of the game previews I’ve seen are solely focusing on GT run game versus SU’s awful run D. The passing game levels the field for Syracuse in my opinion. This was a solid listen.
I think the stat will be clock management. If Tech controls the clock with the run game, and keep Syracuse off the field, it’ll give them an edge. I can’t say this for certain but, my opinion.

You’re definitely correct on the minimal use of downfield throws. There could be several reasons for that. One is that they want to cut down on Kings interception rate, at least in the first part of the season. Another is, if you don’t need it, why use it. There’s also the concept of wearing down the defense early on with the run game. You could see that in the UCF game. But this is just my take.

All week long in Syracuse, the coaches and players were talking about nothing except being more physical. They did not like the fact they gave up that many yards on the ground to Ohio. Expect the Orange to come out playing with a chip.

GT needs to play a disciplined game and keep Syracuse Offense off the field and the D needs to stop the run and Tech prevails but it’s a battle

In my personal opinion I prefer using the 3-4 because you can align in multiple fronts. With the 3-4 you can easily motion to a 5-2, a 4-3, or a 2-5 (not as easy to use to motion into this front because you're using a DE as a LB). The great thing is that with a base 3-4, you can run your blitz packages out of any of those alignments without having the play change.
Now a 4-3 isn't quite as versatile but it can be used very similar depending on your personnel. I've seen 4-3 defenses that basically operate like a 3-4 alignment. They'll shift the DL so that there are 3 DL taking away gaps in the middle and then they have a Rush End lined up wide, and he can move to either side of the line.
It really comes down to your players. The 3-4 generally uses the D-Line to play gap control against the run, along with one of the inside Linebackers (usually). Your outside Linebackers are generally faster more athletic, not quite as big, and use their speed and quickness to rush the QB. With a 3-4, generally one Inside Linebacker is the run stopper (bigger, stronger) and one is the pass coverage guy (more athletic). You will probably run more Zone coverage in a 3-4 to give your LBs more flexibility to rush the QB as Man to Man rules can potentially pull guys out of position, but you can run both types of coverage.
With the 4-3 generally you have athletic Defensive Ends, your interior linemen are still bog but they don't have to be as big as a 3-4. With a 4-3 you're not going to blitz as much, keeping your LBs in coverage more often and using your D-Line to get after the QB. The 4-3 can be a better option at stopping the run if your LBs have trouble filling gaps quickly. Generally your MAC Linebacker (Middle Linebacker) is bigger/stronger but stays inside the Box more and is primarily a run-stopper.
At the end of the day, as long as the DC knows how to utilize the scheme, there really is no difference. At higher levels some teams prefer the 3-4 because you don't have to adjust as much if you go to a Nickel or a 3-3 formation as you would with a 4-3.

The problem with Syracuse is the structure this is the issue because as you see possible Miss tackles you realize that a different setup creates a different scenario on the field with defensively and nobody's figuring that out if you're playing against the run strategically you need to adjust to a team such as Georgia tech and I think it's going to be a coaching issue on defense I blame the defensive coordinator for lack of flexibility.Against the run the Apex for infiltration and stopping the run at the point is 5. '2. The best overall standard is generally the three four because you can change formation and the four can have two coming towards the line and fill in the gaps as you watch the play develop this is why the structure is so important and the flexibility of athletes that can cover both a based on stature and size and all that but mobility as well we've noticed that the 335 seems to work really good against the run a lot of people underrated but the the 3/4 standard we do not have that we have the four two so we have two weaknesses in that structure against the run four on the line which can easily be blocked trapped and only two to deal with me immediately and then you're in the secondary that has minus two on the run defense you have to change structure depending on who you're going against this is my final analysis and I don't think this particular defensive coordinator adjusted mid game to go into the direction that I am bringing forward to deal with a particular team strategically and mid-season I don't think he can do it either I don't think he has the flexibility and I don't understand why depending on the matchup The 3-4 defense is ideal for coaches that possess the two appropriate personnel. The first is heavy, powerful defensive lineman that need to be double teamed nearly every play to stop penetration. The second is fast, athletic linebackers that can quickly set the edge, run down ball carriers and drop into coverage

You seem like a real bright guy and I think you're right on a lot of things you say but the score 2821 there's no way Syracuse will be held the 21 points do you understand how many explosive players are on this team across the board on the offense if you hold them to 21 I'm not going to say like the FSU fan that said he would eat poop if they lost a BC and you can't be found but there's no way brother there's no way You're going to have a problem with the Syracuse offense and there's no if and or buts about it they will score a lot of points and if you control the game on offense with the run and eat up clock that's the only way you're going to lower their score but it's going to be over 30 no matter what it's a matter of the red zone in the run game and it is about structure that is really the problem that it's not being addressed properly
It's easy to say that now. This tea had only played 1 game. He clearly said he wanted to see McCord against a better def. He passed the test.
