    This was super helpful; I see you posted it 9 years ago, so I don't even know if you'll get this comment, but I have a table that has some chipped veneer, and someone gave me some mahogany veneer to patch it with, but I've never done it before, and these 7-8 minutes were so informative, from the taping to the clamping of the straight edge to the table, to chiseling out the filler and a bit of wood. Thank you so much for posting this. I've got my fingers crossed!

    I discovered this channel a year or two ago and it really is one of my favourites. Tom Johnson, you are a true master in a field where very few true masters show their skills - I don't know if you are unique, but I do enjoy your videos, which show such skill and judgement (I'll even forgive your American English ;-) )

    I'm not sure if you have any interest in doing this but I would love to see some educational videos where you just talk about specific topics like veneer. Why is it used? When did they start? What are your tips for restoring them? What's a good one/what's a bad one. That kind of thing. Maybe just me but I would love see videos like that

    I agree with Daniel Miller's comment. You, your experience, knowledge, and profession are unfortunately a dying breed. If you were "next door" I would pay to learn and work with you, for that knowledge and experience. I am a log home finisher. The log structure is erected, and then I take over. My long term costumer is highly intelligent and a perfectionist like me. He likes to show me pictures of cabinetry and millwork he finds online and say "i want that, build it" I was taught when I was 18 years old, "if it's not good enough for your home, then it's not good enough for anyone else's" I'm 36 years old now, yes still a young punk, with a lot to learn.

    • @johnsonrestoration
      @johnsonrestoration  9 лет назад +19

      Thank you Eric for your kind words. But I'm not going to be an old codger and agree that it's dying. There has to be people coming up through the "ranks". My daughter is one of them.

    The way I match difficult veneer is by taking a picture of the patch area, print it out full size and cut out the area to be patched. Then simply place the photo over your veneer to find a section that matches best. You might want to try it in the future.
