The song starts with the clocks, starting your life. And ends with the tolling of the iron bells, and the softly spoken magic spell. Signifying the funeral bells the the prayer for the dead that awaits us all. Imo, this is one of the best songs ever.
The entire rest of the song is expertly constructed as well. The beginning seems to go on forever but the BPMs are still quite fast, signifying adolescence. Then the guitar jumps in and plays a long, angst filled, solo. Signifying the transition from your teenage years into the struggle of adulthood. Then all of the instruments transition into a laid back, final section where the BPMs also drop quite a bit. Signifying the final years of life. True masterpiece.
Been listening to this all my life. Never gets old, only gets better. Still hard to believe a group of kids in their 20s wrote it. This album to me is one of mankind's greatest achievements.
Listen to the intro again and you’ll notice that tick tock of seconds going by, constant, never changing. You’ll also hear the pulse of a heart beat that speeds up through the intro. Life speeds up and eventually ends while time just keeps on going.
I heard Floyd in my early 20's. 'You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking.. racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older'.. That lyric has stuck with my my whole life. It really sunk in how short life is and how much we take for granted.. on a daily basis.
She is right. Most older listeners understand this, but young people would be WISE to take heed to these lyrics. We only get one ride on this rock. There is no repeat.
First heard this song when I was 15. Love it. Great sound, great band, great guitar solos. Everything was great. I didn’t really pay attention to the lyrics. Now at 29 and as a father of 2. Some of the lyrics just hit different. Like a literal blink of an eye and a more than a decade went by. Powerful song
You noticed the Soul of the song. Pink Floyd got their name from two Black Blue's singers. Floyd Council of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Pink Anderson of Lauren's South Carolina. I'm proud to be a Tarheel.
This is actually two songs. Time ends with the word, "say". "Home, home again...", begins the third verse to the song "Breathe", the first two verses of which are earlier in the album Here "Breathe (Reprise)" as it is called is the segue to a song initially known as the Death Sequence later named, "The Great Gig In The Sky". The backing vocals in the latter half of "Time" foreshadow the vocals in Great Gig. Nick Mason the drummer and Roger Waters the writer/lyricist trained as architects. So it easy to see how intricate and well constructed the music is. Headphones bring a greater appreciation of their efforts. If I may suggest.
Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.
In the first verse he says "one day you'll find 10 years has passed you by. No one told you when to run you missed the starting gun".... That's pretty heavy.
For me the second verse hits you hard , trying to run to catch up with the sun , but it’s sinking …. Meaning your trying to find time , but there’s not enough time to do the things you haven’t done in life , shorter of breath , and one day closer to death ….. times running out
Pink Floyd never gets old to me. Been listening to them for 50+ years! Y’all should do a few songs from the Pulse concert, or any of their live stuff. 🔥🎶🔥

7:05 makes you almost wanna cry...doesn't it? I could see the look in Steph's face. As the song beautifully winds down... feeling the time slipping away (realizing how many "tomorrows" we lost... and wondering how many more tomorrows we can take advantage of). Beautiful.
"Time" transitions directly into "The Great Gig in the Sky" Possibly the deepest dive into the emotions surrounding death you will ever hear 😉 But in today's world you might find "Us and Them" particularly on point! Having said that, the entire album "The Dark Side of the Moon" is a Masterpiece / Work of Art. And don't just take the word of some old guy, it charted for well over 18 YEARS!
As a young clueless kid this song didn’t hit home as much as it does today. I just graduated high school when this album came out. Love to be able to go back in Time!
I get from it also - it’s just a fact that 30 days or 30 years, it all goes by in the blink of an eye. But ONLY you can decide what to do with it. If you enjoy relaxing, relax. But what ever you do, own it.
I remember the first time I heard this album back in the early 70's. I was in high school. I'm pretty sure everyone who was into music in my school listened to it by the end of the first month of its release. It was kind of a right of passage. There was nothing else like it. The music was mesmerizing and the lyrics were profound. David Gilmour, the guitarist, said in an interview that his regret about the album is that he could never have the experience of everyone else outside of the band and the production team of listening to the whole thing for the first time.

I've been a huge fan for many years and, of all the great Pink Floyd songs, the lyrics to this are the most meaningful. Don't waste time, we are not here for very long.
Wow, you really nailed the lyrics for a first listen. But then again, that's down to Pink Floyd making it crystal on shared human experiences; like Time and Money and Birth and Death.
You guys have the most genuine and intelligent reactions I’ve seen. I’ve watched many many people react to this. I’m glad I spent some of my valuable time coming across your video. ❤
I just turned 60 been listening to this for over 45 years how's that for time. Great reaction as usual guys been watching you for a few years now as with all the other reactors.
I don't know if y'all have watched "The Wizard Of Oz" or not, but some stoner figured out that, if you watch the movie with the sound down while listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" album (sync them up by hitting play on the music when the MGM lion roars the third time). All the music fits with the scenes of the music and the dancing and everything but there are a lot of other situations that line up as well. The whole movie with the Pink Floyd in the background is available on RUclips under the name, "The Dark Side Of Oz". It's kinda trippy but may not hurt to toke up first. 🤣
Couple of things about listening to Pink Floyd. 1- You need headphones/earphones. Believe me, you will hear things you can NOT hear through speakers, unless you are literally BLASTING it!! Trust me, I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 1975. 2- You need to listen to certain albums in their entirety, first song to last without interruption, because these are concept albums, the whole album telling a story. These albums are Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977 and The Wall 1979. In fact, you just now listened to 2 songs, Time and Breathe (Reprise) and did not even notice. This is how their albums go. And the song that follows what you just listened to, would probably have made you cry. Well, maybe.
The intro for this song always makes me feel like I'm casually riding a horse through a deep mysterious canyon just before dusk. I think I know how you feel about it as well. Rock on y'all!!! \m/
I was Blessed to see Led Zep, Pink Floyd and Ted Nugent all live, all close to the stage. There are simply no words to adequately describe the experiences.
I was looking out in front of me and saw the word Future coming at me very fast. As it flew by I turned to look and it said Past. I think I’ll put aside some time today so I can use it tomorrow. I have a bucket full of Time. I’m going to add some sugar and spice and make it a sweet time. What time will it be tomorrow… Future time, as opposed to my past time of being a little out of time. I wonder…What time is the next time?… time will tell. For the time being, I think I’ll take some time off from keeping time. If I had the time, I would buy some time, so I could use my time wisely. Now I think it is time for me to go to bed, and rest my head, just in time before I fall asleep and fall down and hit my head. Time waits for no one, but right now time is on my side, for the time being anyhow. Time is only a human concept. There really is no such thing as time. No beginning and no end. If someone tells me that time started at a certain time, I'll ask... what was going on ten minutes before time began. If someone says time will end at a certain time, I'll say... Sorry, I'm going to be ten minutes late for the end of time. You can't hold time in your hand. . It is a pleasure to have shared this time with you. Maybe we can do it again some other time, but only if it is not a waste of your precious time. The clock is ticking. I must now go and gather some more time to spend with others. They say "Time Is Money", I'm a very wealthy man. I like to share my wealth. This time was FREE for the taking. Good Day to all who have taken the time to read this comment. This may be the only time. Until the next time. The next time you hear from me it will be that time again. Have a Good Time.
Enjoyed the little nuggets of wisdom. I would go back to the past the past, because it really needs altering, the future can't get any better 🤣🍻 You guys should check out Flogging Molly - It's Been Worst Day Since Yesterday since talking about bad pasts,🤣☘️ they are a Irish band that drinks a lot,🍻 cheers!
Roger Waters said the song was inspired by something his mom use to say to him. About preparing for when he would begin living his life. One day he realized that he had already been living his life. Hence the lyric, "no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun". Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album about life, and it is timeless!
David Gilmore is one of the greats, IMO his best rift is the one from the single "Comfortably Numb". Some other artists/songs that I can recommend for you to react to: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet home Alabama, Freebird Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy, Little Wing Led Zeppelin - Kashmir, and much more Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train AC/DC - Thunderstruck, Hells Bells, Back in Black Santana - Samba Pa Ti, Oye Como Va, and much more of his works Jethro Tull - Aqua Lung, Locomotive Breath Peter Frampton - Do you Feel Like we Do Edward Winter - Frankenstein Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe Jeff Beck - Freeway Jam Eric Burdon & War - Spill The Wine Simon & Garfunkel - The sound of Silence War - The Cisco Kid, Low Rider, Why Can't We Be Friends and more Edwin Starr - War Heart - Barracuda, Crazy on You, and more Fleetwood Mac - Dreams, Gypsy, Tusk, and more Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen, Stand Back Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, Jumpin Jack Flash, and omg so much more Wild Cherry - Play that Funky Music Dire Straits - Sultan of Swing U2 - I Still haven't Found What I'm Looking For and much more Steve Miller Band - The Joker and much more Golden Earring - Radar Love I could keep going on and on...
No regrets isn't possible, but what some people will tell you is another matter! It's like people who say "No Fear" well unless you have a mental deficit then there's no such thing, we all have fear....some people will just deny having those thoughts/feelings and some will be honest about them....in a nutshell it's down to your ego. Great reaction guys... this song really does strike a chord within us.
There are no mistakes - only lessons. Life is filled with lessons. A lesson will be repeated until such time as it is learned - as evidenced by a change in your behaviour. When you have learned that lesson you will be presented with another lesson. The lessons will never stop coming. As long as you live there will be more to learn. If I could go back and change any of my mistakes (lessons) I would not do so. All of those learning experiences is what has made me who I am today, and it is what has given me my current outlook on life. Without all those lessons (mistakes) I would not see the world the way I do now, and I would not appreciate the most important aspects of my life.

Emotion builders. Masterful professionals.
For 40 years or so the guitar at 3:06 always made me think of one of those old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns.
Headphones strongly recommended anytime you listen to (experience) Pink Floyd. Nice reaction.
If you guys ever get over to the UK,and especially Manchester, we definitely got to chill. Cool reaction.
This really makes you think ☮️💜
keep rockin! good to see you both !
man, i love you guys.. thanks for another great reaction
Great reaction you guys ! Just wonderful to see you two groovin' along in your Pink Floyd tee-shirts. Peace and Love :)
That was preatty wise. Man you have a treasure, that is for true. I' m writing this from Poland
This song hits harder and harder every year
The intro for this song always makes me feel like I'm casually riding a horse through a deep mysterious canyon just before dusk. I think I know how you feel about it as well. Rock on y'all!!! \m/
The greatest song ever made
What a performance, david gilmour is a such genius
This is one of those songs where the better quality your stereo is the better it gets.
Headphones when listening to Floyd always!
I was Blessed to see Led Zep, Pink Floyd and Ted Nugent all live, all close to the stage. There are simply no words to adequately describe the experiences.
I really enjoyed this reaction video.
I could tell the gent was feeling the guitar.
Love y’all. My dream is to have a drink w you guys at a concert of your choice. Keep rockin!
Life is not constant, time passes faster the older you get. Your life and time matters. The song is exactly what you think.
Love your reaction. It is definitely true as you get older the quicker things go.
I love your interpretation of this song.
I had this album in 1975 but I didn't realize how profound this song was until I was in my 60s
I would go back to the past the past, because it really needs altering, the future can't get any better 🤣🍻 You guys should check out Flogging Molly - It's Been Worst Day Since Yesterday since talking about bad pasts,🤣☘️ they are a Irish band that drinks a lot,🍻 cheers!
that solo always gives me goosepimples.... epic song for so many reasons
Heart beats get more valuable with every beat. Thanks for the react!

Golden Earring - Radar Love
I could keep going on and on...
i Love your genuine reaction to the song.
Nice one Jay 👍
Imagine the impact this song had on my generation. I was a Junior in high school and 16 years old, when this song was release in 1973.

Great video, you MUST wear headphones when listening to Pink Floyd! 👍
I use to laugh at this song thinking (they) were getting older now I'm 60 and I'm not laughing this song hits harder every time I hear it
When listening to PF more pleasure with headphones.
Good reaction. Thanks for your take on this one.
Nicely done!
Given your attention to analyzing and appreciation may I suggest you do the entire album? It flows together as an entire theme and I think you'll appreciate the messages.
Great reaction! Send more Pink Floyd!
I hope you guys have this album in some form by now. Its required listening for any music lover -- or anyone at all for that matter! If you're into records you can find this album, Dark Side of the Moon, brand new at any big name store or most any music shop.
Love and peace.
If you like lengthy-orchestrated progressive rock kinda pieces of beautiful music , check out their live at Pompeii version of “Echoes” !! Pink Floyd is one of the if not the most important and best bands there ever was
Great reaction guys, and doesn't it just show how bloody amazing Pink Floyds music/Lyrics can be?
