One of my all-time favorite artists!!! He gave us so much good music, was so versatile and out-the-box gifted. I met Mr. Davis when I was a young advertising salesman for a Jazz station in Philly. It was right around the time he was getting married to wife Altovise. He came by the station for an interview. Afterwards, I got to speak with him There was going to be reception for he and Altovise at a country club in a suburb of Philly. I was basically a 20-something kid, and I was shocked that he extended an invitation to me and a guest to attend!!!!! What a gentleman!!! I remain humbled by that encounter...
All that talent and charisma and deep humanity never fully hid the pain he carried being born who he was when he was. I realized this at a very young age and appreciated him more for it.
I love this. Sammy Davis Jr. was SO talented. Under appreciated and unsung, despite being a big success. Whatever notice he got was not enough in my opinion. A giant.
Sammy is one of the most underrated voices of the 20th century. even if he didn't have any of that charisma, dancing and acting chops...not to mention comedic timing, he still could have made it as a pure singer. what a voice!!!
So much talent in a guy - genius- who probably only weighed 140 pounds or even less. He was a master of everything. Did you ever see him handling a gun? He did everything from pop, Candy Man, to jazz. That old Black Magic just to name one of maybe 800??? R I P Sammy because you are an icon forever. We ALL miss you.
one of the greatest performers of the 20th century...singing, acting, dancing. If only there werent blatant racism he would have been the biggest star in the world. He could do it all...Sammy is cool period. Some have it, some dont. He has so much of it, he could give it away.
sappleseed Don't forget doing impersonation, standup, AND playing multiple instruments. Arguably THE most all-around talented performer America has ever produced.
Oh! I'm melting. I'm straight and I'm still melting. What a great bunch of superb recordings. If you like great music performed by the greatest entertainer ever, subscribe!
This is absolutely stunning and amazing...!!!! Such great vocals by Sammy Davis Jr... Laurindo Almeida... I did not hear about him before... but what a wonderful style of guitar playing he has... They suit sooo good together... is very, very touching...!!! Big thanks for posting this :-)
Thank you so much for posting this !!! I KNEW, somehow, that Sammy would have sung , "The Shadow of Your Smile"; how could he not?!! The beauty of the song, combined with the indescribable style and quality of his voice makes this just one more to add to his list of perfect performances. !! I LOVE it !!
além da maravilhosa interpretação de Sammy, há o magnífico acompanhamento de Laurindo de Almeida, violonista brasileiro que é referência nos Estados Unidos, onde se radicou. Nos deixou há pouco tempo, infelizmente.
Have always enjoyed Sammy. What a treat this.

has there ever been many better singers than sam. answer is no!
Listen to Billy Eckstine Johnny Hartmann or Ed Ames Johnny Mathis... yeah they are as good if not better but Sammy Davis is great
But none had sammys range. And sammy could swing with sinatra and get down with james brown.and everything inbetween.

That Dam Sammy can hold a note.
Also check out his album with jazz guitarist Mundell Lowe called In The Mood to Be Wooed. Cute name, gorgeous album, much in the style of this one.
Rick Saunders thank you for your recommendation.
Thanks for the tip. "The Mood" is mighty fine!
Sammy Davis jr. rendering of The Shadow Of Your Smile mmortalized by Astrud Gilberto, the second part is We'll be together again.

The only thing that is wrong with this is song, is there is missing a piano.
