This Beautiful Wood Was Riddled With Ants | Woodturning

- It seems like most of the wood I am turning on RUclips right now is driveway & yard wood; wood that has been sitting around for who knows how long. Well today I keep that streak alive with this beautiful piece of persimmon that has laid underneath some maple & hickory for far too long. Because of how long it has sit around, ants & other worms decided to make it their home which created some gnarly grain colors & bug voids. I will say the ant bites I received while turning this piece were worth it in the end. For the wood turners, if you ever get the chance to turn persimmon, I highly recommend it. Its a great wood to turn but be cautious with the drying; its a doozy.

I love the fact that you didn't fill those bug holes. It gives the pieces so much character. Very nice piece!
That was my thinking! With how many holes there are, I thought epoxy/filler wouldve taken away from the piece instead of add to it!
Bud you nailed this one.
Appreciate that! It turned out better than I anticipated for sure
That is a nice looking bowl. Like the “worm trails” in it, gives it more personality.
It's so cool. If this is not art, what can be called art?👍👍
Thank you very much!
Fantastic work and great result
Thank you Robert!
That is a beautiful bowl with an amazing amount of character!
Thank you! Persimmon never disappoints!
Haha first again! Lol 😂
Awesome bowl!
Haha keep up the streak! And thank you
When I first came to the states in SC, we had persimmon off cuts delivered for firewood. I was super hard. Now 40 years later I wish we could get our hands on more to turn, not burn, since it is unheard of here in Montana . That's a beautiful piece thanks for sharing .... Montana Wood Art Bozeman MT.
Ein wunderschönes Teil 🤩👏 sowas sieht einfach klasse aus 👌
Awesome work my friend!! came out real nice
I appreciate that! I was kind of unsure about this piece but glad I stuck it out
@@andrewmccarn it was a good shout for sure
Those ants were like Led Zeppelin, they were dazed and confused with all that spinning wood they were riding.
Just Beautiful
Thank you!
Stunning!😍
Beautiful bowl. Really awesome videography, editing and music.
Thank you! I am still learning all of those things so I appreciate the kind words!
Looks gorgeous and was definitely worth the effort!
Always appreciate your comments Carol!
Another beautiful piece. I'd love to see something in ebony.
If I could ever get a hold of a blank Id be sure to film it!
Great job, I particular love the rough and rustic turning.
Thank you Bruce! Rougher pieces like this are sometimes my favorite things to turn.
It’s much prettier in person!
Thank you ☺️
More than likely they were carpenter ants or termites (ants with wings).
Столько работы и все в пустую, это же брак древесины, я точу только из качественной древесины, без брака и качественно, у вас же на любителя
