Movie Plot in Detail: The story revolves around Shyamu (Amitabh Bachchan), a small-time thief who is trying to lead an honest life after his mentor dies. While escaping the police, he meets a poet named Deepak, who looks exactly like him. Shyamu takes on Deepak's identity but decides against finishing him when he learns that Deepak is terminally ill. After Deepak's demise, Shyamu continues living as Deepak, leading a life of respect. However, his past catches up with him when Inspector Anand (Ajit Khan) becomes suspicious of his true identity. As Shyamu navigates this new life, he falls in love with Mala (Mumtaz), which helps him in his journey of redemption and transformation.
