I read your testimony and thank you.... I am not alone. We thrive in the art world of color living with our disability. I don't have your artistic talent of freehand, but I am a colorist and this is my therapy. Thank you for what you contribute to the Hobby. God bless!
I follow the same artist, the GIOTTO brand is very very popular here in Italy, and it's mostly used by children (I spent my childhood using these and their "Giotto Laccato" series). I never realized they were so good anyway, it's surprising you review these. So sorry for your loss, as a pet owner (a cat) I feel you. I lost three dogs and one recently, it's almost losing a family member... Condolences my friend
My heart felt condolences on your and your family's loss. The review was very informative and let me know about a product that I had never heard of. Will not be afraid to try them if I come across them. Very much appreciate your work, planning and presentation of these reviews. As always, be well and remain positive. All my best to you and your family.
Even though I always loved coloring, I just started to do it again a couple months ago. Now I have a 36 faber castell polychromos set but before I purchased a 24 set Giotto natural because my niece had those pencils and I simply loved them. My 8yo daughter started to develop her art skills and she’s using them now. I’m from Portugal and I’ve never seen a 36 set here but I will probably buy one if I find it.
Thought I'd do a follow up. Trust your recommendations, so I bought these even though I had decided not to buy any more pencils. They are soft, but my favorite thing is the lovely varnished barrels - they feel so nice in my hand. They have the color name on them and some of the colors are very unique. Thanks for reviewing these pencils; like you, I wish it was a bigger set.
I am so glad you like them and like you I found the barrels beautiful and whilst the barrel has nothing to do with how well the pencils perform, thee is nothing wrong with the pencils themselves looking gorgeous as well. But when you take into consideration how inexpensive they are, they really are a cracking wee set of pencils, I think. Thank you so much Linda for updating me.
So sorry to hear about your dog. Pets are so important in your family and I'm sure that you have very good memories. Thank you so much for this review. I've ordered two sets one for me and one as a Christmas present for my friend who is very much into colouring.
Oh My Dear, So sorry for your beloved puppy crossing over the rainbow bridge. My heart feels for your family. And with the Christmas so close too. You are in my prayers. Love Terri Simmers.
Hello Harry, First of all I am really sorry for you dog Maya... I am sure she has been happy with you for her whole life, I'm sending you positive vibes and a hug. You have even uploaded a new review anyway, even if it would be absolutely comprehensible if you needed to take a break to deal with that. Thank you, as always fantastic review, I know quite well those pencils because I am from Italy (sorry of my English is not that correct) and owned that when I was a child and used to draw already. Nice pencils, I agree totally! :) As I've grown up I got one of the Caran d'Ache Pablo sets and absolutely fell in love with them, but those reminds me of my childhood :)
Harry, condolences on the loss of your dog. I'm looking after an elderly cat myself at the moment and am dreading the day I'm going to have to say goodbye to him. Now about the pencils: I'm a beginner and actually bought the Giotto Supermina's after I read a comment from an Italian gentleman on one of your videos. :). I actually chose them over prismacolor premier, because of the breakage issues with them at the time. I've been very happy with them and from watching an Italian lady reviewing them they are the same pencil as these Di Naturas. Mind you, I don't actually speak Italian so I just looked at the swatches she made. I think she said she uses the stilnovo's , which are slightly harder and thinner ,for fine detail. Harry I also want to thank you for putting me on to Susan Rubin's class on Craftsy. I'm happy to report that I'm able to do all the colouring and colour matching excercises with just the 36 colors that I have. I have the silver and gold as well, but I don' t count those really. Your channel has been a tremendous help in my art journey so far and I'm grateful I found you. All the best for you and your family in the coming time of processing . ~Maryse~
Actually looking at my set I have the 50 piece Supermina set that has 10 more colours. It came in a nice looking tin with a booklet that I can't read lol! I let a friend who speaks French look at it and he sort of could translate :). Forgot to mention that there are refills of the supermina's available per pencil. They come in a twelve pack. I have just found a pack of the red on Italian Amazon, which has the best selection and prices as far as I can tell. The price including shipping to The Netherlands works out to 1 euro per pencil so I'm happy. Sorry for the wall of text. I hope the info is helpful to someone.
Wow... Those colors!!! I am so glad you did this review because if I had ever came across them I would have assumed they were no good. Considering they are in a cardboard box and I have never heard of them. Great review Harry! And so sorry about your dog. I know how hard it was for you and your family when you lost your dog last year. I'll be thinking of you guys. Good vibes sent your way.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I love my dogs as much as I love my children, in fact, I call them my kids. I know that you are hurting and I am so sorry. Hugs, Susan xxx
Well this for me is such a coincidence, that you are reviewing this brand of pencils today. Because I have seen absolutely all of your videos, and I am in the #notificationsquad ! But just yesterday I received my order of a set of Giotto pencils, I think mine are called Stilnovo, and they also have the Supermina. Sure, mine are more for kids, they were less than 15 euros. But I have to say, even my student set still has pretty pigmented colours! I am amazed at how good they work and how they layer. Thank you for another amazing review, I will check the Di Natura ones as well, soon.
@@katherinebordier6195 I only had my hands on the di natura, the Supermina and the Laccato. When I was at the elementary school, I tried some Stilnovo pencils from my classmates, and the only thing I can rimember, is that they felt in the hand definitely more "professional" than my Laccato or Di natura. And From what I have seen and heard from various people though, the Stilnovo seem to be the best Giotto range in terms of quality. I'm going, maybe, to buy a set of 12 one of these days to see how they actually perform
@@katherinebordier6195 Stilnovo, Supermina, Laccato, Superlaccato, share the same core and pigments. Stilnovo, Naturale and Laccato have a 3.3 mm core. Supermina, Superlaccato and Di Natura have 3.8 mm core. They performes all well without differences in my opinion
I am so sorry to hear about your loss and I know that there is nothing I can say to ease both you and your family's pain. You are in my thoughts and prayers take care
I follow the same artist. I just recently discovered him and when i saw him using these Giotto pencils, i was curious cuz i also never heard of them. Thank you. So sry for your loss.
First of all, sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is very heartbreaking. Secondly, do you know where I can buy the 4 fluorescent pencils and the silver and gold one? I've looked on Amazon but I cannot find them.
I am so sorry!! Hope your dog rests in peace.💗 On a different subject: what peoduct would you recommend to put on coloring books so as to protect what you have colored.. Thanks
Oh yes. These pencils are awesome. I hace tiempo "Giotto Supermina 50 elements". Te quality is the same. They are hexagonal and has a 46 colour pencils. Just 10 mire thanks Giotto Natura. Colours like Salmon, Tangerine, Pumpkin, Leaf Green, Night Blue, Sepia, Geranium Pink, Moss Grey, Silver and Gold. There is a child version called Giotto Stilnovo that include these 46 colours and 4 neon colours. The other elements from Supermina are an eraser, a sharpener (made of wood) and two graphite pencils. Those elements belongs to Lyra. A great tools.
And I'm sorry about your dog. I hope you be good soon. I forgot to say that Giotto has a recent brand called Giotto Skintones. Basically Giotto works very close to Lyra since the german brand has the same Skintones line. At the same time Lyra reply a similar set of Giotto colours for a scholar line in Germany.
I also follow the Italian artist you talked about. It seems when he fills areas with colour it is extremely thick and creamy colour, when I try it with these pencils it is very shiny and takes a lot of pushing. Is this normal? I use Bristol vellum paper. Thanks
Send me a sample of what you mean theartgearguide@gmail.com I think I know what you are referring to and if I am right it is normal with these pencils, the only reason you don’t see it in his drawing is the angle of his camera and his lighting. When the art work is lifted up under different lighting conditions you can see this shinny effect on his work as well. If you send me a wee sample of what you mean I can definitively answer your question better and more accurately.
Thank you so much for such a kind comment. It was really difficult losing Maya but we had the most wonderful years with her and the memories will last forever. Thank you so much.
Sorry for the delay in replying to you. They are beautifully soft and creamy and I think if I absolutely had to pick the softest core I would say Prismacolor, but there really isn’t much in it at all. The main thing Prismacolor have over this set of pencils is their huge color range, 38 is the largest set in this line which is really such a shame, if they came out with a 120 set, I think they would be so popular, especially among CP artists who enjoy Prismacolor. I hope this helps and thank you so very much for you question and your support
I love them, I think they are wonderful pencils, really well made and rich pigments and so inexpensive. I would love to see a 72 set or 120 set I love them that much. Thank you so much for your comment I really appreciate it, all the way from Italy, My Brother In Law and his wife live in Italy in Naples
