It's hilarious in the moment when you think that they're actually in a terrible situation and Gene's chosen the most awkward moment for this confession; but once you know the twist it makes a lot more sense. Gene is genuinely enjoying himself and appreciates the work Bob and Linda have put into making a special Halloween.

that’s so bizarre. People don’t want that from their cartoons. Family guy has its place. Bobs Burgers has its place as a heartwarming cartoon, there’s no reason why adult cartoons have to have this family dynamic where the characters can’t coexist as a family unit and ACTUALLY grow together and like each other. Why does the comedy have to start with them hating each other? Fox is so weird for asking them to do that 😂😂😂.
I’m really interested to know where Bobs Burgers sits in terms of ratings compared to Family Guy and Simpsons, like for their Animation Domination. It’s an objectively funny show.

When Bob says "Gene, you are a very capable boy!" with sincerity after he reveals he had the Wooly Neptunes in his sock, I get emotional.

YES! Gene and Bob are SO underrated as a duo! Their relationship is incredibly realistic and subtle. I get why people say Louise and Bob are the most alike, but I think Gene is so much like Bob too! Like Bob did with his father, Gene sort of rebels against what Bob does/wants, and he often isn’t immediately impressed by Bob. Also, the two have a slightly complicated relationship. To the point where they've physically fought each other (completely out of character for the two otherwise).
It’s typical in sitcoms and cartoons for fathers to instantly bond with their sons and have no idea what to do with their daughters. I feel Bob’s Burgers flips that on its head. Bob is so comfortable talking to his daughters, but sometimes he looks at Gene like he’s this beautifully weird creature.

It's probably because of how hard Bob tries in making sure not to repeat the bad parenting cycle with his son. He's awkward and he doesn't always understand Gene's eccentric ways but he makes the effort to not repress him the way his own father has.
I had the same thought that Louise was so similar to Bob.. but she's her own chaos. I found Gene is more like combo of Linda and Bob, but more so Linda, and himself.
But upon watching it more, Tina is so much like Bob. Calm like Bob, but when needed she's so assertive.
Well put. And yes, but this take seems and feels more natural. Traditional tv bonding is parent teaching one kid something about growing up, not having an interaction or relatable dialogue with their children. Mothers with daughters and fathers with son. Usually the end note is “do as the parent says and your problem is solved”.
@@sakurashy8492 he doesn’t really. He objects to almost all of the kids goals and desires. Like Tina and capoeira, Gene and his music, Louise and her money making schemes, or revenge.
He wants them to be original but provides no support.

I’ve heard somewhere that the actors record their lines together so I think it might’ve been lmao bc the second before/after you can hear bob chuckle, as if it’s the actor genuinely laughing in response to gene lol

@@klondleI would bet they Could record separately & do sometimes but it's always a good idea to do Group Line Readings.
It takes a better Sound Engineer to know which samples they can use & which need redone but it's usually worth it.
The hard part is having the studio recording room big enough for more then 3 actors at a single time. 😅
They record as a group so it probably was genuine

Something we tend to forget is that Bob is every bit as benevolently demented as Gene. The only real reason he's different at all is from years of bad luck leaving him downtrodden, and the knowledge that he can't just abandon reality on a whim when he's got family and a business to take care of.
His quirk with talking with inanimate objects helps him not be in reality for a second. That is Bob’s way of being not in the moment. Gene definitely got the mix of Bob and Linda strong dreams and enthusiasm. Even though we love to say that Bob is a realist- he is also a dreamer. And he achieved that dream. Yes, he’s struggling and raising 3 rowdy kids does not help but he reached his dream. That’s why we see him as a realist. He can’t afford to lose the job and his family. He’s living in the moment cause the moment is technically his paradise. I still love the scene where he had a dream he had an office job and was very relaxed and stable and THAT was considered a bad dream.

That's one of my favorite scenes in the entire show since it shows that while Bob and Linda do love their children, they're not perfect and do make mistakes even if their intentions were completely genuine. But instead of justifying poor mistakes, they admit to it and try to learn from it. Moments like this really makes them stand out to me. Plus I love how Bob openly loves Gene for all his quirks

One of my favorite episodes was when Bob took Gene to that indoor concert laser show and Gene was getting overwhelmed and fhe fact Bob never got really angry at him because of it and was geniuenly being caring and amongst other episodes but that episode holds a place in my heart because I get overwhelmed by loud noises and bright lights so I could really connect with Gene in that episode

One thing I love about Gene and Bob's relationship is they regularly share hugs and tell each other they love each other. Like, I can't think of a lot of other shows where a father and son tell each other they love each other or hug since there's the stigma that men showing affection is weak and that's really sad. But it always feels genuine and sweet. It honestly reminds me a lot of my relationship with my Dad

I am so greatfull that I found this show. This is the only show I keep rewatching and it helps me so much. I didn't have a good childhood but with this cartoon I feel as if I am a part of it and I know no matter what happens or whatever I do, either bob or linda will come upto me and calm me down because that's all I ever needed. ❤
