im 47, started at 45... i got a few tricks now but what i would say is as an older skater its a lot lot easier on the body to start on miniramps.... at the begning i tried street but the demand on the body later on in life makes it quite a tough... especially as i have nerve issues and ptsd.... but after 2 years mini ramp... the muscles are there and i am now back to learning the basics on flat ground.... i can olly and shuvit, thats all... but i can rip a miniramp.. a series on how to skate starting later in life would be great... lot of people doing it now... i guess what i am saying is if you are older and struggle then maybe come back to the street tricks in a year or two.... my 2p worth
39 year old beginner here! Learning along with my 7 year old son. Had my first mini ramp session the other night and it was a blast! Super scary to start, but I was surprised how quickly I picked up the rhythm for pumping!
I skated casually as a teenager. Stopped mid highschool, its been almost a decade and I decided to get myself a decent board, protection and I'm skating again. Because of this video I was able to shuvit within a few days. I skate all the time now and I'm happier then ive been in a while. Step on the board everyone!
I’m 34 and just started skateboarding a few months ago and I’ve been following your tutorials and practicing nearly every single day trying to get the basics up, and I’ll hopefully be giving the shuvit a go in the next couple of days, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your content and all of your help, it’s the most fun I’ve had in so long and I love learning along with your tutorials :) thanks!
skated really hard last weekend for my first time in over 20 years, my heels are killing me, but I just didn’t want to stop skating kept on until my legs were jelly. I’m hooked all over again.💯😎 Going back to the basics seems to help a lot, but I still get the feel for it , thanks for all your tutorials🙏🏻
Just started today after a few months injury caused by my first skateboarding tryouts. I was super scared to hurt myself again, but it was the best feeling to land my first shove it and get over the fear. Thank you guys
Man, thank you so much for this series, I'd been practicing shuv-its for days, and just couldn't get it, but after watching this video, it clicked, and now I can land them regular, fakie, and rolling both ways. I'm still a total newb with a very long road ahead, but now I feel like I can actually take it
Dude, all my life I've wanted to learn skateboarding. I'm 52 and was looking to get my twelve year old son into skating at Christmas. Love these videos, love the "baby steps." Instead of just getting my son a board, I've decided to learn with him. Don't worry, we will both pad up! Thank you so much for all the coaching!
Now 48. Spent all my teens on a board and loved skating with my mates. Wanting to get my nephew on a board in next year or so. Wish had this type of info and training at my finger tips back in the day, took ages to nail an ollie! Absolutely amazing Aaron keep up the content and mission love it!
Just landed my first shove it, after strugling for a bit. for anyone strugling it helped to move my front foot more towards the middle of the board, kinda like the foot position of an ollie. great vid!!
Ironically today I did my first shuv it which is also my first trick on film too! I definitely have to work more on my riding and getting comfortable but so far im seeing progress. Thanks braille forreal
Landed 4 ollies today just started skating like 2 weeks ago, and that’s bec of you Aaron Kyro a sponsored skater from San Francisco Bay Area. Love from Seattle here 🛹
48. Started collecting reissue decks from Powell Peralta and Santa Cruz After collecting a few, I couldn't help myself but to set one up and start skating again!
I recently started skating again after 8 months of not skating and at that point I skated for 2 years but now I lost my muscle memory I'm taking a step back and relearning the basics
Thank you for this! Leaning on your front foot is the tip I needed to hear. I don't know why it works, but it does. I guess it changes your center of gravity so it's over the center of the board, making the board spin underneath you?
yo, i was scrolling through the comments and saw this and gave it a try and i was finally able to commit landing both feet on grass (although it was all over the place), i think having your weight more to the front foot allowed me to finally get my back foot to land bcoz i didnt need to focus so much on trying to lift up my back foot, it was much easier just focusing on your front foot and letting the back foot glide or hover juz above the board and automatically land (at least thats how i felt when doing the trick)
So far it's been much much easier to do rolling ollies, I've only landed one pop shove it. Going to try these today, I think I got this based on my ollies alone. Thoroughly shocked and happy with myself lol
I think it's obvious but important to note (also for parents that have a kid that wants to skate) a toy skateboard from the toystore is often much heavier and any tricks like this and going forward are harder on those. If you want to have a nice (and safer) skating experience, go to your local skatestore and get a beginner set. There's a very big difference in weight and build quality.
I think I might have to go to the Braille House personally if I want to be able to learn it properly, and to skate the warehouse, kind of a dream of mine
me ... skateboarding for 25 years or so and waiting for this series to get to heelflips and heel variations lol hoping to see hardflips too Still paying attention, there's always fundamentals that get missed
Hey, I just started skateboarding and am doing well, I am trying my best but, the shuvit is just getting away from me, my front foot is fine and stays on the board but my shuvits are just not landing, any tips? P.S I love you guys, you have really helped me out a lot with tricks, and I love your videos, keep making more!😝👊
Also if you're wearing protection, like its been said Dont worry sbout falling. I'm probably a bit heavier then a lot of y'all do I hit the groud hard. But with the safety gear, the pain is minimal. The key is to get into zone, develop muscle memory and don't overthink it. When you make a mistske, correct it before it becomes a habbit!
am stuggling to get my backfoot on the board after the shuv... any tips ? I always end uo landing with my right foot on the board and my left foot on the ground.
I dont know if im thinking about the trick wrong but i can do step 1 and 2 fine but when i attempt the trick it does the 180 and my front foot lands but my back food is on the ground.
@@waddleduck54321 yeah i actually did land it. I havent got it consistently but i was subconciously scared of committing, so how i decided to fix it was when i put my front foot on the board, i just bring both feet at the same time. Cuz when i rewatched my footage, my back foot was on the ground immediately. I hopw that makes a little sense
So I am practicing this for 3 weeks all the other weeks I mastered but somehow this doesn't want to work either my board scrapes on step 1 if it doesn't scrape it does a 360 with like the least amount of force, when I try to do this riding my board launches like either 5 meter in front of me and really high or doesn't turn at all
This vid was amazing and helped me A lot but I still can’t land because I can’t seem to get my back foot to land or stay air born after the scoop pls help
pushing the board with your front foot slightly while you are flicking your back foot makes a shuv 10 times easier to land. i’ve only seen a couple YTers mention this. He’s literally doing it in the vid but doesn’t talk about it lol.
So far I only found a helmet that fits me. 6'6" 350 makes it kind of a pain to find anything my size. I do got my hockey pads but they get extremely hot really quick. Anyone know of pads that work well for big skaters like me?
Ok this tricks drive me nuts. I can ollie, switch ollie, fakie shuvit and land it 10/10 but I spend so much time on simple shuvit. Still I can land it 9/10, but while moving the board fly of in front of me or just don't do a full rotation (I land it but can't continue to roll) any ideas ?
@@hmm9733 I have progress on it I can land it while running very slow but it's never a full 180, that always stop my speed, at best I finish with a pivot, at worst I fall. I don't understand why the board don't spin below my foot like in fakie, I need to jump forward, and it's not natural. But it's progressing, slowly but surely.
Hello im 12yo im on a skateboard like for 2-3 days and i just can't get this trick cause its going back or just forward and i just dont know what to do cause i did watch like episode 1 and episode 2
it took me 6+ months now im doing them eyes closed while going fast. here's an extra step: land with your front foot on and back foot off, then after landing put your backfoot on too. keep doing this and it should automatically get on after a while.
Am I the only one finding ollie actually WAY easier than the shove it ? I managed to land a few shove it but it felt more like luck than anything else since building the muscle memory from the learning steps feels like it make it harder to manage my back foot between the shoving movement and the trick landing. Basically I do the first step easy, then go to second one and it goes well too, then trying to do the full thing either I don't manage to keep the back foot in the air enough to get it back on the board or I try to get more momentum and make me mess up my movement and I end up fliping the board or messing up the whole thing.
im 47, started at 45... i got a few tricks now but what i would say is as an older skater its a lot lot easier on the body to start on miniramps.... at the begning i tried street but the demand on the body later on in life makes it quite a tough... especially as i have nerve issues and ptsd.... but after 2 years mini ramp... the muscles are there and i am now back to learning the basics on flat ground.... i can olly and shuvit, thats all... but i can rip a miniramp.. a series on how to skate starting later in life would be great... lot of people doing it now... i guess what i am saying is if you are older and struggle then maybe come back to the street tricks in a year or two.... my 2p worth
