Emily: She's like an inflated balloon of a snake after laying
The snake: *hisses like an inflated balloon too*
Btw really appreciate that you record this like in separate days so I don't have to constantly be waiting like 5 days later an update to them laying eggs. Instead, ya'll filmed and edit then together all at once, I love it. I'm a very impatient person hahah.

    Hi Emily,
Just yesterday I was practising my instrument and looked up to see a lizard on the window blind! I walked over with a pencil to check it was alive but it moved as I got a bit closer!
I called out to my brother who brought in a jar and once the lizard conveniently fell inside we went out to look up what he was. Turns out he was just a common garden skink found everywhere around here in a Australia.
My brother and I went out to the garden to realise him and I slid him onto my hand because apparently they’re friendly to humans and he just sat on my finger, super chill! He was also ADORABLE. (Probably a baby)
I brought him back inside to show my family and my mum suggested to stand under the heat lamps in the bathroom to warm him up!
I couldn’t let him go so we kept him for the rest of the day, gave him a drink and had him in a plastic take away container with dirt and leaves and a water bowl. He was pretty happy.
Later in the day I was pondering of keeping him but decided, even though he’s super chill and didn’t drop his tail tail at all, he is still wild and it’s better he dies by natural selection not by humans keeping him incorrectly.
We warmed him up one last time then set him out in the garden in the darkness. Plenty of bugs out and no birds!
I know this was a long comment but I wasn’t scared of the little skink at all and I felt like Snake Discovery helping the animal and talking about it to my family. ^^
    Okay bye!

I think a lot of people who are here watching these videos either really love reptiles, or just love learning about new topics. Being a college student currently, I can also say that your teaching has been much more engaging than some of the ways my professors' have been trying to teach us online, so props to you guys! Emily questions for you about eggs, have you ever peeled eggs apart and one of them ripped open? What would happen if this did occur and would there be a way to keep the fluids inside the egg allowing the egg to develop (wrapping it in clingfilm? - I'm just thinking this wouldn't allow oxygen to pass through the shell). Could you patch it up with tape on one side?

My corn snake Safire /black and white/ had something weird on her eyes and the next morning she had a VERY small clutch of eggs 🥚 round about 9 and at least 7 or 6 where slugs! We have more than one snake tho and sometimes we let them out together so we don’t if she mated or if they are just non fertile eggs 🥚 we are going to see the pet shop tomorrow but for now we damped a bit of tissue put it in a plastic box , put bark around the edges and poked holes on the lid. We don’t have a thermometer 🌡 so we don’t know the correct temperature. We used a bright lamp and started shifting it about to get it right. Also when we moved Safire away she moved her eggs a bit 😬 also she not fully grown yet and she’s quit small. This video helped us improvise and work with what we have and I thank you 😊 I really hope her eggs are fertile but either way I’m proud of her 🥰
Edit: 3 eggs were brought to the pet shop. 2 eggs they couldn’t see anything and one they saw a vain. There is a chance so they put the eggs in a proper incubator and that’s that! I me and my mum looked at what snakes breeding look like and it looked like what dusty was doing to Safire 0-0 /we put all 4 of them together when we clean there tank things / I hope there ok and thx for reading 🥰

We are hoping the other one will pop out later today or tomorrow. My sister in law is eagerly awaiting for the babies as she wants one for sure, as do some other people. I didn't breed without having homes lined up first :) Oh, and if we have to keep half, all the more for us. We love Leopard Gecko's. Three is not enough.

Emily, I love this series! Can you possibly do an experiment for us with one of your clutches? In a previous video you noted that one of the eggs you stroked before the hatch date ended up hatching first. Perhaps you could stroke 5 or so eggs in one clutch before the due date and mark them with a sharpie so we can see if they exhibit hatching behavior first! 🐍💕

I have to ask do you compost all the moss and bedding? I feel like you would have the best compost pile in town with all the changes and stuff you guys have to make. Great for gardens!

*When you don't actually plan on breeding any egg laying species, or maybe at all* CANNOT MISS THIS EDUCATIONAL CONTENT.
For anyone wondering (I know no one is) nerodia and thamnophis own my soul. If I breed any snakes, those are the only two genus' (genuses?) I'd breed. They're so underrated, and I found Snake Discovery through their garter content :')

Why doesn’t Emily mark the eggs while they’re still stuck together? Just to keep the same orientation, just in case.

I was wondering that as well and I don't thimk it was a mistake because she also did it this way arond in the last video.

    • @messynessy1485
      @messynessy1485 4 года назад +15

She'll usually keep them in a similar orientation. So if the egg is at an angle then she'll put them at an angle just in case. She's mentions that if you get to the eggs before 24 hours the embryo hasn't attached itself yet. Same goes for detaching the eggs from each other.

In some of the older videos she does exactly that. I am unsure of why the change. My best theory is she is very skilled at this point and since marking the specific uppermost point seems new, that is probably easier to do post transfer when you have access to to the top surfaces of all the eggs.

Youcanclick? It's so late I cant eve. Press certain buttons. If I try to correct my mistakes, it would lag so bad it would take me 3 minutes for each mistake. Although most of the time I will take my time to fix the mistakes cause it's annoying for me, the first sentence is accurate of what it looks like when I don't fix my comments. This is an unnecessary comment, I hoped you enjoyed my failures lol.

Especially during quarantine, it'll be great to see all the new tiny noodle faces and what morphs they turn out to be! And even if they're all normals, they're just cute as lil buttons!
