I'm an eventer and I love the sport and my horse very much. Horse owners know their horses limits and they don't push them over it. It my horse doesn't want to do something then we don't do it but my horse absolutely loves cross country. We do what some people see as dangerous jumps but we both trust each other and I wouldn't do anything that I knew she couldn't do. Eventing just shows how powerful these animals are. I love it
Thanks...I believe that Event horses are the ultimate athlete and their welfare, fitness, health and overall well-being is paramount. After all...us riders are nothing without them, and I'm glad you can appreciate our dedication to them. They are awesome animals...x
thank you for posting this. there are others on here that think they know everything and just blame it on a "lazy horse" or that they "went too fast". i blame the course designer for that one.
I absoloutley love the video's from riders perspective - like your actually riding over those fences :) There was some serious skills from some of the riders, lack of skills from others, and a whole bunch of very talented horses (and i hope they're all ok after a few of those falls...) :)
The course was designed very well, this just shows only a few of the fences (and most are from mixed courses) go look at the full course (you can find vids online) and it is a very fair test for 2* & 3*. The step into the water before the pumpkiny fence had a big rolltop in, but they removed it because of how many fell in the 1* for the 2* class. People get badly hurt. thats the sport, but the course designers arnt out to kill anyone....
I'm still laughing about rider 168 how cool the horse still jumped without her! hahahahaha! Love the video 5 stars!!!! Would give you 10 stars if I could!
What you know as eventing now is called the Short Format. Way back when, the "cross country" phase consisted of 5parts (short roads & tracks, steeple chase, Long R&Ts, cross country and a 1 1/4 mile run). The courses were longer, with the jumps being roughly the same, and rarely any deaths. The Olympic and FEI forced them to make it shorter. Hence, shorter course; more difficult questions and allowing of inexperienced riders. They wanted it to take up less time and space and be more thrilling.
Cross country is amazing:D I love doing it. but i think the thing to do with it if you dont want it to be too dangerous is to keep the jumps to well within your horse's scope :P then HOPEFULLY no one gets hurt :) thats what i do.
wicked vid wish my horse was brave enuf to do all those jumps, shes a little girl when it comes to jumping stuff she dnt knw what it is she wnt jump it.. 10/10
oooothe first fall on the video is necarne up north of ireland.. i also fell off at it last year :L but they had a different fence put in!! bring it on dis year!!!!
wow, impressive 2 stars. much tougher than the advanced courses at several English one-days! By the way - incase someone from FEI sees this ...Bring back the long format !
nice video - though I'm not sure I buy the statement that they are two stars. Most look like three stars and a few might approach 4-star (particularly with the number of spectators)
haha i would agree with you! i wouldn't leave my horse on the XC course if he had fallen. even if i was dying i would stay with him! haha i've had some near fall accidents on XC and the first thing i always do is make sure they are okay... i dont care about my self!
Hey, i really love your video !!! im Jw if i could use some of these clips for one of my contest vids.... i will give u full credit in describition if u let me use ....
0:40 made me LOL xD Guys, these horses love what they are doing. It's no more dangerous than what they do in the wild, in fact, it's probably safer. Every precaution is taken to ensure these horses safety on these courses.
i do see what you mean but i swear i blame the course designers sometimes ya know? there are ways to go about having eventing safer for the horse and rider. Yeah, some of the jumps have pins in them but the combos they come up with are a little much sometimes.
0.10 - the horse carries on to jump part C! 1.41 - defo the riders mistake!! I love it when the riders jump with no control or reins and the horse is so in tune that it jumps amazingly. My friend's horse did that, she lost her reins completely yet she carried on jumping!
@TheNatascha13 They are hardy horses who are loved very much and they love their jobs. If an event horse was to break a leg, the owners and riders would do everything in their power to save the horse, but if it's not in the best interests of the horse's wellbeing, they will have the horse put down, not sent to slaughter. If you speak to any event rider, they are always worrying about their horses and are hardly bothered about their own health as long as their horses are ok.
sweet jesus the jumping into water is soo scary. i feel bad for the horses who's owners get kinda pissed after they fall cause i mean its frustrating but imagine how hard that is on four legs!
@TwoPrimas like livelaughlove79318 said, this video's title is called eventing FALLS. accidents happen all the time, no matter what kind of riding you do. i ride western and english (although i've been riding western longer), and let me say, the dangers are pretty much equal for both. barrel racing and pole bending? not a whole lot safer than jumping or cross country.
It´s ok.. I´m from Sweden hehe.. So i´m not from your area :P... Upp here we need a to take a test before we kan compete.. And I´m doing that when the snow is gone :D.. And my horse is a beauty :P..
i dont understand how some of you people think that Xcountry is cruel? horses love it, i event and my horse loves going Xcountry.. and the part of the reason that these people are "pulling on their mouths" is cuz when a horse is going through a cross country course, you have no idea how excited they get, i know with my horse he gets so wound up that he wont listen as well and sometimes i have to pull hard on his mouth to slow him down before a jump or else he would crash right through..
The US is the only country that still runs the long format. Every other country has fully converted. The LF forced people to be prepared, they had to qualify in order to move up to the next level, and could only compete so many times a year. Eventing is a lovely sport, when taught correctly. They need to enforce more regulations and qualifications on riders. Too many unprepared riders are competing and no one is telling them not to. Safety has now become last on the list since the change.
Theres always that one "iffy" jump in courses. Some horses are fine with it, others might not have been schooled over something like it enough or just think its "scary".
Some of these made me cringe, but I laughed pretty hard at 1:04. Horse runs up to the fence, looks over it, and is like "Oh HELL no." And scampers off. xD
could i use the fall at 0:10 for my 'so you think riding is easy' video i will give you credit by having your You Tube name run along your video as it is playing and your you tube name on the end credits.
Ouch, I hope those horses were all okay in the end. Some of those falls looked painful and I wouldn't be surprised if someone injured a leg or something.
@JumpinSuperPony yeah i wld agree my horse wld get upset tho it does depend some ppl its basicly self inflicted just care bwt wining at ne expence including the horses hapynes then id say they desrve it
I'm sure you have already decided if you are going to be an eventer or not but if you question if you want to even try it then you are going to have a hard time doing cross country, if you let nerves take over then eventing isn't for you
Thank you LostMySocks! EVERY sport is dangerous. It's when riders who are unprepared or unfit go out is when accidents happen. Football players get concussions and die. Ice skaters can be crippled for life. People need to get over it. If you don't like it, don't do it.
Wow, I'm an Eventer - and I am even appauled. I gasped quite a few times and sat here stunned...
I'm an eventer and I love the sport and my horse very much. Horse owners know their horses limits and they don't push them over it. really cooool.. I´m riding my first event this summer.. Looooking forvard to it :D
best riding video i've seen on youtube in months! possibly ever well done
thank you for posting this. there are others on here that think they know everything and just blame it on a "lazy horse" or that they "went too fast". i blame the course designer for that one.

that was awesome!! would it be possible to see more of that footage where the is a camera on the riders helmet it looks cool! 5/5 and fave
i love the part at 1:18!! nice job. the video fits perfectly with the music!
The course was designed very well, this just shows only a few of the fences (and most are from mixed courses) go look at the full course (you can find vids online) and it is a very fair test for 2* & 3*. Nice vid! I think the horse at 2:08 didn't realize it was a bank, thought it was just a normal jump...
Eek! Sooo many falls at the water! Scary :0 (Nice editing)
I'm still laughing about rider 168 how cool the horse still jumped without her! hahahahaha! Love the video 5 stars!!!! Would give you 10 stars if I could!
Thanks. I did think this but I'm still ropey with how to ride a cross country course, so any pointers I can get are great.

this vid is great love the editing at 1:15 well done
haha the grey horse at 0:11 is someting my horse would do...keep going in a combination even after i fall off haha i love him
Cross country is amazing:D
I love doing it.
but i think the thing to do with it if you dont want it to be too dangerous is to keep the jumps to well within your horse's scope :P

thats what i do.
I love your video. And the part from 2:05-2:16 really hurts...=)
this is such a cool video-great editing =)
wow i like how u get to view the perspective of the rider
I´m starting at the very bottom haha.. I have a Belgium warmblood (hanoverian/ TB).. LOVELY horse :o)..
wicked vid wish my horse was brave enuf to do all those jumps, shes a little girl when it comes to jumping stuff she dnt knw what it is she wnt jump it..
10/10
yeah usually after the third or so fall, they take the fence(s) off course but apparently not this show...
awesome! I love the head view!!
@Chestnutluvr4evr the whip doesnt hurt the horse just makes a noise that they react to! so no worries
I love the part at 1:15!
Great video. :D
good video!! shows how tough eventing can be!
the horse at 2:13 got up but he was a little shaken. the clip before is the same horse just from a different angle
your video making skills are pretty damn awsome
great vid may i use some bits of it please x#
Ioved the helmet cam!
oooothe first fall on the video is necarne up north of ireland.. i also fell off at it last year :L but they had a different fence put in!! bring it on dis year!!!!

nah these are some of the 2 stars in the irish eventing series, such as ballindenisk, tattersalls and necarne i think they only go up to two star
Hey, i really love your video !!! im Jw if i could use some of these clips for one of my contest vids.... i will give u full credit in describition if u let me use ....
Oh alrite. . I don't have any experience on a country course so thank you very much.
0:40 made me LOL xD

i LOVE how the grey at 0:11 finishes the triple =D

damn good ride at 1:32..thank god for honest horses and solid backseat!
Water jumps to me are the most dangerous ones there!! I like Cross Country but people have died along with horses.
I'm a paraequestrian too, i'm missing a leg, and I event all the time.
I actually compete against able bodies riders who cant tell i'm "handicapped"
I dont know if anyone noticed but at 0.10...the horse just kept going so obviously its no problem to them.
Poor horses ! But a good Video ;)
i was pretty impressed that one rider through the water jump, idk how he stayed on
nice vid, great job

It´s ok.. I´m from Sweden hehe.. So i´m not from your area :P... Upp here we need a to take a test before we kan compete.. And I´m doing that when the snow is gone :D..

So.... stone walls, roads, solid gates, barbed wire fences, bunny holes, banks and open ditches and at least 5 hours on the trot are a better choice?
POOR POOR horses!
i love cross country but it is scary!
:S
Love 0.11!!!

@EMLcowhorses that's treu , it's not my favourite part of horse riding , cus if they fall they fall mostly bad.. but you can't stop it :(
1:29 to 1:34 was just excellent skills on the rider behalf, not many people could havve mamaged that :)
Never give up your dreams!! Dont let anyone tell you that you cant do anything.
Some of these made me cringe, but I laughed pretty hard at 1:04. Horse runs up to the fence, looks over it, and is like "Oh HELL no." And scampers off. xD

Im just curious..did the horses in the wild have a rider on thier back yanking and kicking if they don't see a distance....I don't think so.
Ouch, I hope those horses were all okay in the end. Some of those falls looked painful and I wouldn't be surprised if someone injured a leg or something.
@JumpinSuperPony yeah i wld agree my horse wld get upset tho it does depend some ppl its basicly self inflicted just care bwt wining at ne expence including the horses hapynes then id say they desrve it
aww bless the horse at 0:10 he jumped the third one without the rider lol
wowie!lol were did u get these clips=O
haha love 0:12 riderless jumping :P
All of them were able to get up, walk away and make a full recovery ;)
I'm sure you have already decided if you are going to be an eventer or not but if you question if you want to even try it then you are going to have a hard time doing cross country, if you let nerves take over then eventing isn't for you
Bernardino Eventing agreed
i want whatever that game is!!
OMG I feel really sorry for those horses
Thank you LostMySocks! EVERY sport is dangerous. It's when riders who are unprepared or unfit go out is when accidents happen. Football players get concussions and die. Ice skaters can be crippled for life. People need to get over it. If you don't like it, don't do it.

1:22
The worst is, I think they are still angry at their horse! :o
1:44 The horse is like, "Oh, HELL no! I'm outta here!"
That horse at 1:34 was incredibly honest.
:11 Horse is like "Ok I'll just jump this last jump without you then I'm done. K?"
I luv how @ :09 she kind just jops off lol but it waznt the horses fault cuz he just kept goin :)
