Van Halen changed my life. I hated my stepfather from the time I met him and tried as hard as I could to make his life a living hell. On December 4th, 1991 all that changed. He checked me out of school early and we went downtown to see a Van Halen concert. On that day we reconciled our differences, and my stepdad became my dad. Love you, Pop!
Saw them on the same tour. Sammy was the singer by then but they did this song, saw Dave on the Skyscraper tour, he also did this song. Sammy sang it better than Dave.
This was the David Lee Roth Era Van Halen in a nutshell Eddie was the technical wizard and genius Diamond Dave was a flamboyant showman Alex and Michael were the thunder and muscle
And the solo he done for me. He got there to record before me showed up. And EVH rewrote the song and my loved it .and that’s the song you know today thx to EVH.
@ZeUs Nobody knew who Slash was when Beat it was recorded. He would play with Michael a decade later...but Beat it was actually Eddie on the solo only and Steve Lukather played on rest of the track.
Most of the time I recommend not watching the video because of the distraction from the awesome song, but in this case, do the video. Mr. Video is too funny to miss that reaction.
David Lee Roth was just a giant kid having way too much fun. You can’t take this song or video seriously....they are just screwing around....it was the 80s....you had to be there.
Van Halen was the party band. Never failed in the 80's, if you went to a house party or field party, there was going to be some Van Halen playing at some point. You can see why.
Ok now you have to watch Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher". This was back in the 80s. When MTV was all about the videos. Fun and flamboyant, zebra stripes, polka dots, shoulder pads, straight men used eyeliner and lots of hairspray. The best of times.

Fun fact: the US military used this song and some others as musical torture to force Panama’s General Noriega out of the Vatican embassy in 1989. They blasted rock music constantly for three days until he couldn’t take it anymore. “Panama” was played over and over, ad nauseam. He surrendered a few days later.
Can you imagine sparking up a joint up close to the stage? That’s the way concerts were man. Sometimes you’d be watching the show and then, tap tap on your shoulder. You look around and someone from the row behind you would hand you a joint. Puff puff pass. You’d see the thing almost make it down the row. Happened all the time.
Eddie Van Helen’s live Eruption solo is a MUST!!! Also a sidenote, the lead singer David Lee Roth, aka Diamond Dave, is a black belt. That’s why he has all that flexibility and sword spinning skills! And believe me… The ladies knew Diamond Dave meant business every day every day!
Van Halen is one of the most iconic and best bands ever. Their music saved my life as a teen in the 80's. RIP EDWARD, WE LOVE YOU AND WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. 🥰👍Actually it is Jack Daniel's bass guitar. The drank many bottles on stage. I certainly have had you share. 🤣
Holy moly it doesn't fit in my brain that some people have never heard of Van Halen. How have you lived your life? And Yes, Hot for Teacher and Jump should be next, but Panama is my fave from 1984.
Was lucky enough to see Van Halen play the United Center in Chicago in 2012 when I was a freshman in high school. Eddie was a rockstar of a different caliber, man.
I've met Van Halen, I worked for a music store that sold Kramer guitars. We gave away a guitar as a promotion, so we got to go backstage. Mike Anthony is the coolest, nicest celeb I've ever met. Maybe Ed was having a bad day...
I remember my grandfather telling me stories on how him and my grandmother used to go flying down Highway 101 from Santa Barbra on his motorcycle blasting this song. I remember him telling me that I missed out on the best era to be alive in. RIP love u
The ultimate party band in my day. A Jack Daniels bass and a line of bottles and beers always on stage. They are in my top 5 all-time best rock acts. So much more to see with DLR and then Sammy Hagar on vocals
One of the greatest music videos of all time is Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher,” and that was during the apex of the MTV era. That will be a terrific one to react to for sure.
David Lee Roth's father was a doctor. Eddie Van Halen was one of the best guitarist of all time! Their videos were so popular on MTV when it first began. I was in college. :)
@4:35 the irony is that back in those days, it was probably in their contact that clearly defines "2 big rocks, minimum"... dont let that punctuation fool ya ;-)
I was about 7yrs at the time so I didn't go but my oldest brothers went to a few of their garage parties in Pasadena in early 70s. I saw one of their flyers, it was basically a handwritten flyer and they made a bunch of copies. I was too young to understand all the stories but my brothers had a blast every time they went. My brothers passed away a few years ago so anytime I see or hear Van Halen, it brings back great memories. Thanks for this reaction and God bless 🙏
That tour sold out 3 shows in Houston. Had tickets for Judas Priest and traded them for VH's 2nd show. Things that pop into my mind: "No Little Rock Arkansas". Is there a Big Rock Arkansas? If not, why not just call Little Rock "Rock"? Bruce Lee, Jet Li. Just for thought, the singer's name is David LEE Roth. Sword in the head. LOL! "Now there's a happy fan going home with a souvenir" Ha!
as many have said... "ERUPTION SOLO LIVE WITHOUT A NET" is the way to see all he can do. no life shaq has a brilliant reaction to it. "aint talkin bout love" one of my favorite hits of theirs.
"Tonight I'm going to stand up for sex, drugs and rock n' roll. By the time we hit the stage, I'll be lucky to stand up at all." -- David Lee Roth, singer

Hot for Teacher!!!, Eruption/Pretty Woman, Ice Cream Man, Jump. I would suggest sticking with the earlier stuff like this. They changed lead singers and never were the same.
Van Halen the soundtrack to so much in my life..Born in 1970...I look back and smile, I was a kid in the 70’s, a teen in the 80’s, in my 20’s in the 90’s....what a great time to be alive, anything before 9/11 was great, then the PC ass hats FK’d up all the fun...my motto then was work hard, play hard, and FK hard...lol now I’m 50 with a family, a business, now a respectable person in my area if they could only have seen me in my prime..lol
Oh my you found Van Halen🎸🔥🎶🎶🎶🤘😎 Brothers Alex( drums) and Eddie Van Halen ( lead guitar ) David Lee Roth front guy vocals, Michael Anthony on bass and harmony. Early Van Halen is raw, by this album 1984... I think....they’d been on a role for a minute.🤘😎🔥Saw these guys in high school and after several times. Definitely lost my mind( for a minute) at every show....there’s so much energy it gets you high, facts.🔥🔥🎸🎼🎶🔥🤘😎
Michael Anthony had that Jack Daniels Bass Guitar...and somewhere there’s a video where has has a stash of actual Jack Daniels in a drawer to the side of the stage which he frequently goes and sips on during various parts of the show....he was a party animal, Van Halen is a party band, and David Lee Roth IS the party!! By the way, I’d love to see your reaction to their super groovy song “Drop Dead Legs”!
See those huge crowds? I was in so many of them. I’ve seen Van Halen live more than any other band and the shows were just that wild. They were notorious bad boys of rock. I was 16 (almost 17) when this song came out. Me and my girls spent the summer driving around blasting this from our speakers. Good times.
If you didn't know...Eddie Van Halen (guitar) and Alex on the drums are brothers. Also Eddie and Alex were born in the Netherlands and are both classically trained pianist. Also in 2012, Eddie was voted #1 of the top 100 guitarist in the world in a poll that Guitar World magazine asked it's readers. Legendary band! Good video brother!
When you check the live Eruption guitar solo take note of how Eddie Van Halen comes on stage... Dude was falling down carried in toasted... And STILL played like that... It's some insane shit.
I was fortunate enough to see Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 Victory tour in Dallas. VH was also in town for concerts the next few days. Eddie came on stage and played that guitar solo at the concert. It was wild!
The band's guitar player, also whom the band is named after, played the guitar solo on Michael Jackson guitar song Beat it! This band is why I play guitar! I am glad you're doing a reaction to them! Fantastic reaction Mr. Video!🎸🤘check out the bass players Jack Daniels bass solo from "Live without a net"!
One of my favorite all time bands. David Lee Roth is a black belt by the way and this song is about a car but is filled with sexual innuendos. They were at the top of the pile during the metal rock hair band days. Love em. Hot For Teacher, Jump, Aint Talkin Bout Love are all must watch. His brother Alex playing the drums here is pretty damn good too. Love your vids and glad to see you came back. Peace.

Eddie Van Halen pretty much changed the way guitars are made now. Because of his experiments with guitars. Particularly with the tremlos and locking nuts. Also with the pick ups.... The solo he did on MJ's Beat It song was done in one take. Also the little drum intro to the song"funky cold Medina" by Tone Loc is also the same drum intro to Van Halen song"Jamie's Crying".
