    I work in the hospital as a phlebotomist and thankfully we don't have to put in any formation in the computers like you, we just send them down to the lab through a tube station and the lab do the rest.

    I’m currently taking the classes for phlebotomy and so far I’m enjoying it! I was wondering is it hard to get a job after you finish school, I heard many places require experience?

    • @xoxoilianna
      @xoxoilianna  3 года назад +14

      Most clinics do require experience, my first job was at the same clinic I did my internship. Made good connections and got hired! A lot of intern sites will hire you (so make good impressions☺️) ! But a lot of teaching hospitals will hire with no experience cuz they will teach you. I left the clinic for my first hospital job at a big teaching hospital in my city. it was nerv recking not having experience in the hospital but after a month you gain soooooo much experience! Hospital is my favorite place to work over a clinic but it’s all preference :) you got this ! You’ll find a job easy I know :)

      I was able to get a job with only phlebotomy class experience no working experience at a hospital as a lab assistant. I don’t know if the title is the same for all hospitals but at my hospital a lab assistant will draw the blood as well as the laboratory aspects this required only a GED they didn’t even require phlebotomy experience. They said you would learn it on the job so I would recommend looking into hospitals!!! good luck with your schooling!!

    I have to tell you my funny hospital/nurse story... so in 2001 I had PE (pulmonary embolism) and of course was in the hospital for a long time, at first all the meds made me really sick so I slept a lot, one day for the lunch we got a HUGE delicious brownie, I saved it for later, I set it on the bedside table opposite the door so no one would take it, I'm a hard stick and being that I had to have my blood tested all the time, the nurse staff would draw lots to see who had to try a new stick lol, on that day the training nurse got stuck and I woke up with her nibbling on my browning pretending to try and draw blood LOL,

    I have a question, where did you start off first for your phlebotomist career , did you start off in a hospital first like how did you get your experience

    • @xoxoilianna
      @xoxoilianna  2 года назад +4

      I started at a clinic the same clinic I did my internship they liked me and hired me on after! But I only worked there for 2 months before leaving to work at a hospital- if yur looking for a job I recommend teaching hospitals because they will hire with little to no experience (as long as you have a certificate and diploma from a phlebotomy course) and they train you ❤️

      Hey:) yes I printed all the labs for the entire hospital all at once! Then I split them up and add them into the bag with all the necessary tubes & supplies so I can just grab the bag before I go into the room and verify patient ID bands with the labels 💓

    Hi, I'm enjoying your video☺️ and I was wondering if you new of any pregnancy phlebotomy students in school who were pregnant? Because I start this month on the 31st and I'm currently 13 in a half weeks. They say you need all of your vaccines up to date for hospital clinical. I was cautious of getting so many vaccines at once. Any advice?

    • @xoxoilianna
      @xoxoilianna  2 года назад +1

      Thank you ❤️ yes I had pregnant students in my class! I even have a friend in nursing school :) they all went through with vaccines as some are even recommend for pregnant woman (flu, hep b, tetanus). It is recommend to avoid live vaccines (shingles, chicken pox etc) but a lot of people have those vaccines from when they were a kid so you won’t need them again. Also you CAN turn down certain vaccines if think you had them before so keep that in mind. (I don’t have any of my hep B paperwork but I was still able to turn it down since I know I had it at previous hospitals) I would do more research to see what’s best for you and your baby to make you feel a lil better about everything! So excited for you BTW you will love phlebotomy especially in the hospital! Make great impressions as I got offered my first job ever from a clinical site! You got this ❤️

      Mostly clinics require a lot of experience and won’t teach you, hospitals on the other hand need the help so will hire and train.

      @xoxoilianna  3 года назад +1

      @@mariafox2678 hi Maria! Well since your foreign your most likely bilingual? So that’s a plus! Start on indeed.com honestly the best place to find phlebotomy jobs. But where ever you currently live, check out the hospitals near you! Some will require experience but some are what they call teaching hospitals. Where they hire new students that just graduated (nurses, nurse assistants, Phlebotomist) and If you have proof of certification with the state, they will hire you with no experience & usually you train with someone for like 3 months (nurses longer sometimes it’s like a program they enter) .. I literally called my hospital near me and asked to speak to the lab manager after I applied and told them I recently applied and if they are still hiring. But like I said go on indeed.com make an account apply for jobs, call them too, I promise you will get a job with no experience soon! Just don’t give up I hope that helps! And remember call your local hospital see if they are teaching hospitals especially if you live near a big city they will definitely have teaching hospitals! 🥰

So I got a job at TGH (Tampa general hospital) no experience just my NHA certification and they trained me for 2 months :) (that’s way 5 years ago!) hope this helps
