Innova Leopard vs IT vs Roadrunner - Disc Throwdown 8

  • Innova Discs just released the IT - Innova Tech. It's a slightly understable fairway driver that is a mix of the Innova Leopard and Roadrunner, respectively. With the flight plate of the Leopard, and an even more convex rim than the Roadrunner, the IT aims to strike a middle ground between the two discs. The disc can be pronounced "I.T." as an acronym, or as the word "it." The branding of the disc is focused on providing the more aerodynamically stable flight plate and the stabilizing VTech design from the convex rim, to give this disc torque resistance, as well as meat on the rim for easier grip.

    I have a champion glow roadrunner and it’s pretty neutral compared to the flight numbers. It flies basically dead straight and is great for hitting gaps. It doesn’t turn over super easily and has very little fade. Since my arm speed has gotten faster, it’s replaced my Valkyrie as my strait disc. The valk now has a lot of turn.

    Good job throwing a variety of release angles on your throws. One small thing I would say is if you’re not adding dialogue in your throws, maybe don’t wear the mic so we don’t just hear you breathing. Great review!

    • @NickCarroll
      @NickCarroll  Год назад +2

      Yeah most of the time I remove the audio and put in filler music but I wanted to do it this way, but unfortunately the mic moves. I'll fine-tune this in the future or just go back to background audio during the throws. 🙂

      @@NickCarroll The mic sound makes it sound like you are launching rockets, I didn't mind it at all. Honestly I think this is one area that you are going to get opinions going a millions ways. The louder traffic noises distracted me more, but I am nit picking, editing audio takes time and it wasn't that bothering to be needing to add half an hour of mastering to your editing flow to denoise and mess around if you don't already have a flow to do that quickly.
      I think I would appreciate a comment on several of the throws on how the wind conditions for that throw are since that is hard for me get from a video, and if you felt like the release was right where you wanted it or if it wasn't. Maybe remark on how forgiving the disc was if your release wasn't exactly how you wanted and how it affected the flight. Little things that is hard for a viewer to know about by watching, or at least newer viewers like me. Maybe experts in the game know all these things just by watching. Not a flood of talking. So many disc reviewers just don't take a breath and it gets overwhelming if you know what I mean.

      @@DaniGirl6 I appreciate the constructive advice and criticism. I will be moving my wireless mic to my cap, which will move it a slight bit farther away, and out of the swing plane. I've been putting it on my label, but it's too close, and sometimes it moves while throwing, which makes the throw and other noises louder during the swing. I'll make a note to lower the volume a tiny bit during the throws themselves. I've watched other channels have this problem, so it's made me more conscientious about it as well.
      I'm not super chatty, by nature, but I'll make sure to comment more on what I was trying to do, after the fact. I find that if I am saying what I'm about to do, I get distracted with word choice and sometimes it affects me negatively before I swing, because I get to focused on the attempt, and tend to overcorrect.
      Lastly I'll also make a note on talking more about the wind. I generally wait for calmer days to record, but I can't account for gusts or changes, and that would be helpful to note. Thank you. 🙂

Can’t wait to see what color Shawn’s beard is this Halloween. Thanks for the hard work. Not sure if you’ve filmed at Jones Creek Ranch but I recently tried that course at it was a great one. Hope I can bump into you again this year and maybe play a round together.

    *The IT seemed intriguing!*
    I use the:
    - 173/175 Halo Leopard3 Ohn TS _(my favorite disc atm)_
    - 175 Star Leopard
    - 169 Star Roadrunner
    - 175/165 Halo Teebird3
    If I come across it I'll certainly give it a try, but pretty set on what I'm using in the 7-9 speeds.
    _Either way, interesting video and nice details on the disc!_

      I tried a gstar IT for a bit. I threw it maybe twice without it rolling over and both times in a tail wind.
      Might be good in a different plastic in max weight, or as a roller disc, but the one i got is pretty much unusable for my arm

    I love the Leopard. It's my go to driver for straight shots in the woods. I only throw 300ft max and I can put a pretty good rip on it and it will go s little right before finishing a little left at the end.
    IT sounds like something to look at if it's basically a little faster and more stable. might be a little better in wind.

    I’m a brand new player. I bought the Innova new player pack (145g) plus some premium disks in (165g). My best disk by far is the low weight (145g) leopard by far. Is this normal for new players. I was thinking of buying some other DX low weight disks to try out.

    I know banshees are rated a speed 7 by Innova but unless they are very flat they fly like a speed 6 disc.
    I have 4 really flat banshees that are probably 15 to 20 years old, and definitely fly like a 7 speed.
    My 3 newer banshees from about six years ago definitely fly like a speed 6 and have a lot more dome.

    Leopard3 is an excellent slow long turnover disc. Great for low ceiling hyzerflip to turn with less possibly to float up and hit the trees as the I.T tends to do. It's also good when the TL3 comes up short or fades too early.

    All three different shades of yellow look beautiful together. Also, I think the IT would be a better disc for most people or maybe the Dark rebel(Fd). I personally love my leopard 3s and Eagles. A few years ago I switched from the leopard to the leopard 3s. Just easier for me to keep it dead straight for tunnel shots. I don't throw teebirds because my eagles would get pissed but I did throw around a gstar teebird a few rounds and got 400+ distance with it. I heard u throw teebirds and recommend the gstar for you. Keep up the great videos.

    • @NickCarroll
      @NickCarroll  Год назад

      Thank you! The IT is a great complement to the FD. I use a Teebird, TL, FD, and IT to give me different levels of stability in the 7 speed range. I also use a fairly understable Leopard now that is pretty used, to round that out.

      @@NickCarroll nice selection of fairways. It's hard for me to minimize the molds in the fairway section but I got it narrowed down to firebird( which I barely use) eagles and leopard3 s. U have a lot of similar molds for different stabilities and I would recommend trying to narrow down the mold a little bit more especially as you get T-Birds that get broken in they'll start to fly more like the TL and the IT which can help minimize the molds.

      The Valkyrie is pretty sweet as a 9-speed driver. Surprisingly usable for someone at my reduced throwing speed. Also a Mamba is about the farthest driver I can throw, and Sean uses his religiously, so I recommend that one, too. I would say Star Valk and Mamba, and consider a GStar Mystere as something a little more stable than the Mamba, and I can almost get the same distance with that.

    So Nick, what are the statuses of your L3, IT, and RR now?

    • @NickCarroll
      @NickCarroll  6 месяцев назад +1

      None of those 3 are in the bag at the moment. I change to a more tiered system of 6, 7, and 9-speed drivers. So from overstable to understable:
      6: Gazelle, Cheetah, Leopard
      7: Banshee, Teebird, TL, Hawkeye
      9: Firebird, Thunderbird, Dynasty, Sphinx
      The Cheetah replaces the Leo3.
      The IT was removed to fit another 9-speed.
      Roadrunner is replaced by Sphinx

      @@alanlundberg4534 yeah all a part of being a disc golf content creator. I can't get glued to anything. Though up to this point I've had a fairly stable loadout for my cart, I've decided this year to allow myself more flexibility. I still primarily throw certain discs the most, but some discs are in edge case slots, so they're interchangeable. 😁
