    My experience with thunderbirds have been mixed. I've owned two. One was straight and I could throw it farther than everything I owned at the time. It was a flatter champion run. I've played a lot since I lost that one and gotten the arm speed to throw 12 speeds. Recently I bought a domey champ thunderbird and it flies like a firebird for me. Low distance and meat hook.

    I think if you're comparing a disc head-to-head, maybe consider giving points based on where they land in relation to the basket.
    This video for example, comparing fairway drivers... landing in circle 2 = 1 point, circle 1 = 2 points. And don't putt with that disc either. Missing a putt with a 10 speed takes away point value for that disc, when that's not even it's intended purpose. I think this would show a better apples-to-apples comparison between discs when you value where they land in relation to the basket and not putting with them. Nobody's gonna putt with an Anax, Tesla, or Thunderbird.
    Appreciate the content as always! If you're ever in the Dayton, Ohio area (huge disc golf zone, btw)... would be happy to meet up for a Bodanza battle!

  • @axlespelledwrong
    @axlespelledwrong Год назад

    One thing I can weigh in on - I have bagged all three molds, Anax, Tesla and Thunderbird and can say Thunderbirds definitely have consistency issues compared to the other two. I recently bought two champion Thunderbirds and one is not only way grippier but also has a much higher parting line (dark purp, translucent) and is stable enough to handle power forehands no problem. The not so grippy one (pink, opaque) has a bit more glide and has more ability to be finessed on backhand, but can't handle forehand power well at all surprisingly which is basically what I bought them for. They literally feel like two different blends of plastic. I have tried two ESP Anax's and two plasma Tesla's over the past year which fly exactly the same to each other. All in all, I think the Tesla is my favorite between the three. It feels the best in my hand and goes so, so far when I forehand it and it feels more torque resistance to both Thundy and Anax but with a bit less fade. All three are great molds and have slight variations in flight, but I think fit the same slot before they break in at least.

  • @CanadianGunslinger11
    @CanadianGunslinger11 Год назад

    Have had all 3 of these in the last year. My thoughts: Champ thunderbirds start out the most stable, they want to get to the ground and kinda dumpy. They do make great headwind discs and after abit of beat in, seem to really increase their glide.
    The Anax wants to glide, if you rip it, it holds it height level very well, It is not as stable but that last 15% of the flight it does want to hook up and fade though. Not as stable as numbers.
    The Tesla I think is pretty plastic dependent. I had a plasma one I think and it felt very similar to the thunderbird, but glided more. Really useful for pushing forward hyzer shots, but at my arm speed (320-335 distance w/them) wasn't really getting any turn on it. Definitely stable-os.
    I think new my favourite was the Tesla, but after a bit of beating the thunderbird becomes king. Anax kinda undecided on and least experience with.

    Before watching; This will probably be the most interesting video for me personally that you've ever done. Decided on doing form on 9-10 speeds (19-21mm rim but not marked as 11 speeds) for the off-season.
    So extended my few an Orc, an "old" Flash first run, Viking Discs Fenrir, Berserker, to a used Invictus, used Firebird and some Prodigy H1v2, H3v2 and FX-2. Mostly beefy af but the distance was not the goal really, but controlled clean throws. Not gotten much throwing done sadly... The Thunderbird in G★tar is on my wishlist if I can get it in a nice color.

    • @Iliyena87
      @Iliyena87 Год назад

      That was a good one! Get some more 10-speeds-isch and compare them for me please, pretty please ;)
      The only problem is my forehand being 200-250' still, I've never been able to throw balls or anything far so I guess I'll work hard on getting to 300' forehands and then use turnovers instead... ^_^

  • @TMRaven
    @TMRaven Год назад

    Funny thing about the Anax is even though it's listed as a 10 speed vs the 9 speed Thunderbird, it actually has a slightly smaller rim than the Thunderbird, measuring in at 18.9mm as opposed to 19.15mm. It does have a slightly sharper nose however. I do find Thunderbirds on the whole a little more overstable than Anaxes, but I have also found both molds suffer quite a bit from run variation, where they can be either beefcakes or straight out of the box. I prefer the hand feel of the Thunderbird.
    You should review Barela Color Glow Teebird3!

    • @subspaceanomaly
      @subspaceanomaly Год назад

      the anax being wider in diameter than a thunderbird I would guess means it glides more. I have both in my bag, prefer the thunderbird bit the anax is stiffer and fights the wind better, but if I throw then really hard the anax goes quite a bit further for me.

  • @martin_wilson81

    I wanted to love the Anax, but I'm a Getaway/PD guy. I've purchased and tried about 8 Anax's. I''ve got several ESP, all types, all are slick and brittle, not durable or grippy at all, hard to throw, end up with chunks missing long before they break in. Once they break in, they flex and fly so erratically that I can't trust them. I have two BigZ and they are just slick and hard. Discraft needs to fix its plastic before they lose more of us. They literally have the worst plastic, on average, in disc golf right now. I bag two Era's for straighter shots and long distance turnovers.

    Honest thought. I don’t like reviews where you put with the disc being reviewed. No one’s going to putt with it. And the score won’t always reflect what the disc provides the ‘opportunity’ to shoot. Maybe inside c2 use a putter of choice. Not a deal breaker, but driver putts make me cringe a little. Either way, love your content. Disclaimer: I’m a new disc golfer too, started this last spring.

      don't think it hurts practice but I likely won't do it with fairways and drivers here on out. The conclusions about the disc are never related to the score I shoot, that' just a fun way to shoot reviews, but yeah, don't really want to use non putters within a range I feel I can consistently hit metal

    I guess Teslas have changed, I remember having one ages ago and it was very OS and dumpy, much more so than Anax or Thundie.
    Anyway, been a big fan of the Anax. Don't let the initial stability fool you (especially if you're rocking ESP), the disc beats in pretty quickly and becomes way straighter and ultimately a really nice hyzer flip machine. Great as such but if you're looking to hold on to that stability it's going to require some willingness to cycle fairly often.
    Been trying out the new C-PD for that exact reason, will see how it turns out after a bit of wear.
    Would be interested to hear if anyone has experience of Z vs. ESP Anax.

    Owned the Anax, and then sold it as fast as possible. I despised the hand feel, worse disc I have ever felt. For me it’s a MF teebird3 which is a 8 speed. Then a Wraith all day and every day.

    I still love my thunderbirds but all those flights looked nice! I carry different weights of Thunderbird - one max weight and one 165g. The 165g one flies alot straighter for me so the two are super nice together. I throw the 165 for my Thunderbird shots with little or no wind and throw the max weight one for those shots in the wind haha. Would love input on where you fall with that choice tho

    You're judging a control driver partly on how well you're putting from each of the lies or how well you put with that disc.
    These are not good criteria.
    You should judge them solely on the properties you want from them.
    Distance, control, wind resistance, hand feel, multi-use, etc.
    How you rank those priorities and how they perform to compared to each other is all that should matter.

    • @BodanzaDiscGolf

      that is all that matters, it's just more fun to make a video that has scoring than doesnt
