These systems are brilliant and the engineering is superior. We started using the FP systems approximately 5 or 6 years ago at KFA and I have not been disappointed. The electric CS system with the FP governor is just something else, it has a full auto function (which is what we mostly use) and that controls the rpm to match the chosen MAP according to the Rotax engine power curve. You just cannot fly that accurate manually and we have seen huge fuel savings since moving to these systems. They also produce a hydraulic CS unit for the 915 and 916 engines which we use exclusively. As for reverse, the prop seen in Bryan's video about KFA aircraft is one developed by FP for us to use on skies and floats. Andrea is now also looking at producing a reverse function for competition flying.

That is very good pricing…Are they only available for Rotax?

I’m curious if they can do reverse thrust for operating on floats or skis. I think I saw that in action in one of your other videos but I don’t remember the brand.

The prop installed on the KFA Safari showed in the video is a reversible prop specifically for float flying.

Yes, Must press 2 buttons at once before it will switch to reverse.

Electric prop… my step father that passed away less than a year ago at 97, told of a electric prop failure back in the? 50s or ?. Helicopter working for oil exploration companies on north slope of Alaska found/spotted case of soda pop on tundra… hmm later they found another… then another.. all in a line heading twords barrow? Turned out the store owner in barrow was flying a plane to barrow loaded with that and the electric prop pitch control failed and the passenger was throwing cases of pop out as fast as he could… but they crashed and weren’t found till years?decade later…..

Electrical and electronics have advanced a lot in 70 years. Look at modern EFI engines, more reliable than carburetor as most of it is solid state.

You need to remember that power is only needed to adjust the propeller,
Today's technology is far more efficient than something that was designed many years ago.
I can understand where you are coming from because anytime you add another system only adds to more maintenance and extra controls that can go wrong.
But with today's advances in technology in some cases only makes it safer.
And the other thing to consider is with a engine out ,being able to feather a prop would give greater glide distances whereis with most experimental plane's having a fixed propeller a adjustable propeller could be a advantage.

the e-prop system is also 8kg. looking forward to getting this in the sport pilot world! guess it won't work with the RV12, it uses that center shaft.

So the one question not asked and still outstanding. Can it be installed onto a Lycoming engine (

I had the system (fp + Warp Drive blades + electronic DUAL MODE GOVERNOR ) installed.
Unless going higher then 8000 feet you cannot manually adjust the prop better than the electronic governor box controls the pitch. It regulates every change of wind direction or altitude changes according to manifold pressure and rpm. Only when cruising at very high altitudes you sometimes get slightly better cruise and fuel consumption by manual adjusting. System takes away all hassle adjusting the prop during take off and landing. Fantastic for conversion training. Takes away the load from the students.Very reliable and super customer support by fp.

Sounds like you drive it till it pukes and buy a new one, it would be nice if you could change the blades

    • @scottwatrous
      @scottwatrous Год назад +2

When I talked with them you can change blades out if damaged but youd get them through FP's workshop with their collars and everything factory installed. So can't go to Warp Drive and just get an off the shelf blade and DIY a solution. Which it was never meant to do that anyway.
They also do have their own in house blades made with their own base integrated into the blade directly so that would be a potentially good way to go.
