The leveling is very precise I doubt it's a micro drive might be a two speed AC motor or some other type of variable speed leveling field. However those were more common in high rises with DC motors where the MG cuts out and leveling field cuts in on the final approach to the floor landing. Defector sheave top of the shaft.

I believe the controller was replaced with a newer one sometime in the 90s or 00s
