I mean there was even a black gay actress, who was 12's companion for a short while, a much better actress then the person that played the new 'Rose.' lol. In alot of cases i can agree such as james bond. But with the doctor he is an alien who can change his face with plenty of precedent that Time Lords can change gender and race , and even precedent they dont really have a construct of sexual preferences. So why is it a problem when the doctor is gay , black or female?
Using my example of James bond (another franchise I love) I dont think he should be anything but a straight white male , because that is how that character was concieved. If a new movie were to come out and james bond is now black or a female it just wouldnt make sense within the story. But with doctor who it can and does make sense within the story that the doctor can regenerate into a black person or a female.

    • @JohnA...
      @JohnA... 18 дней назад +1

The relationship thing and memories was always a little foggy with the Dr. From the many years of the show, most of them until the 2000s didn't ever really talk about any kind of actual relationship he might have had (other than maybe his grand daughter very early on). But we can also see that while he (they as a species) do keep memories/knowledge, he also has huge changes to personality, tastes in things, interests, etc. every time. So its quite likely that they would see the next reincarnations (if they get them, again something that seems rare for them to have so many like the Dr. does) as a "new" persons and direct relationships would be somewhat lost. Also remember the connection to Rose with the first new Dr. in the early 2000s, and there have been other slight mentions of past relationships after the 2000s. And the idea of "all the women" already seems like he doesn't hold onto those unless we want to say he "dies" and thats that for each of those relationships, because the whole time travel thing that would make it quite possible to keep going back.
That being said, while I did enjoy the River Song story, and even liked the Rose part making the Dr. somewhat relatable in that way... I would prefer the Dr. NOT deal with such things himself, instead have the background characters doing that so that the Dr. is just the driving connection in the stores for everyone.

Not 2000+ year old... 2 BILLION + year old because of the jail episodes.
And honestly it could have been fine, if they hadn't just been pandering. They could have easily started into the notion more of "time lords change biological sex" like they did with the Master, and that played out fine. But they had to dive directly into sexuality, wasn't just a woman but a gay woman, and not just a "gay black man" but a flamboyant gay guy, oh and also don't forget the drag queen character (but you know DISNEY the company for kids, had to add fetish things into the mix with that one).
While I did like some of the River song stuff and even Rose, it was probably a horrible idea to give the Dr. ANY romantic relationships, leave that to the background characters and keep the Dr. as a character for everyone that just connects everything else.

I didn't like the 13-Yaz relationship, because it was shoehorned in at the last minute thanks to the loud Twitterati crowd constantly badgering Chibnall, so yes it was pandering and didn't feel earned. I also think saddling the first female Doctor with it was unnecessary. Though if I'm fair at least it made some sort of logical sense, the Doctor had spent so much time as a male with an eye for the ladies, it follows that this would continue despite the physical change.
Like JohnA.. I'd prefer to keep away from the Doctor's love interests, I'm not particularly interested in the romantic machinations nor the orientation of the lead. He wants to beat the bad guys with "big musical numbers, and twerking". Also the female doctor had no whimsical cleverness about her. She lacked depth as the doctor and I feel like the whole season was just a tease at her hooking up with her companion in a "will they, won't they" situation. The insert of a relationship which the Doctor has never participated in with humans before because the doctor knows how infinitely small our lives are compared to his, and he can't bear the thought of getting so attached only to watch them die while he regenerates. It also pulled away from the main story in a lot of cases and the writing suffered as a result which is why the female doctor lacked depth as a character, and they were relying on this doctor being a lesbian to be a compelling reason to finish the show which it wasn't because they're making everyone gay or lesbian in TV now and it's not special anymore. It's overplayed way more than the "good guy gets the girl" trope.
Doctor Who has lost what made it unique. The sense of an adventure with friends and someone wise to guide you along on this crazy awesome journey in their life as the last Time Lord, and the privileges, and burdens that come with name "Doctor Who."

What plot lines existed in “Space Babies” and “The Devil’s Chord” were juvenile and incompetent at best - with more plot holes than Swiss cheese. The acting, too, was verging on “Am Dram” - especially from Gatwa. Weirdly the drag queen, Jinx Monsoon, came across better, acting-wise (possibly by playing it as a pantomime villain a la Alan Rickman) than the supposed star of the show. The real nadir though was when the show lurched into a song and dance routine with a sideline of breaking the fourth wall. It was jarring and nonsensical. I know the next episode has been written by Moffat but, honestly, I think these first two episodes have, finally, dealt the show a death blow - with only 2.6m viewers for the first episode and 2.4m for the second: piss poor viewer numbers. I bet Disney are happy!

It's almost like telling fans of the show to go touch grass and to not watch the show now was a seriously bad idea

The author of the article obviously never saw Pertwee in a purple velvet opera cloak. Quirky, to be sure, but fun as well.

Ironic as its creator Sydney Newman was a straight white man.

Don't forget Verity Lambert though, without her it wouldn't have survived

If he was well written.. he could be black pink gay whatever and the show would be good.
The problem is, they keep focusing on the fact he’s black and gay like they’re just bashing u over the head and hating you
The birdcage is such a good example of how to do gay characters you root for.

If RTD wanted to make a show about a gay black space traveller; then he should have done that. There have been numerous such shows over the years. To come back to DW and screw it over completely has he has done is just awful. I'm in Australia and I will not touch "Disney +" which is the only legal way to view it now. I could watch it by other means but I just do not have any desire to do so. After 60 years of watching it. The heart and soul of the show is gone.
