Around 9 years ago a friend of mine had found and was setting up CS beta server so we could play that version of the game again for old times sake. We used to build maps and have LAN parties at his house. His parents were amazing when we were kids. His older brothers would come in and we'd play magic the gathering with beta and unlimited cards. Pretty surreal to think about today. Miss you man :(

Used to play this on dialup. I was in the first wave of 1999; CS was a very different beast in the early betas. Game dynamics were constantly changing, it was difficult to hone one's craft. I knew I was "gettin' gud" when LPBs began accusing me of cheating.
Damn I remember there being dialup only servers, & our family had cable internet!! It was always fun to dominate the server for 5mins before getting kicked for having a super low ping.

I later discovered it was hard for low-pingers to score hits on me because I was ahead of where my character appeared in-game. After the netcode was tweaked for beta 7 I would find myself suddenly dead on the ground in a place I was a few seconds previously. Most confusing.
Yeah I used to get accused of cheating all the time. When they finally added spectate where they could watch you play, I thought I'd finally stop being accused. Nope. Back then no one really silent walked much and it was easy to wallbang headshots. I really enjoyed gun running where you could go pick up your old guns and they used to have unlimited cash and a tank to drive around in on the CT rescue map. Those were the days ;)
2001 was completely different era of gaming. We were 15 high schoolers buddies on self made CS group, playing on LAN, setup a LAN part and had a good time. The bonding was so strong. We can play CS all day. We still together until 2008 when L4D2 and TF2 came out. Than everyone just go life their ways and we disbanded all together. It was a good time.

I went to an 'internet cafe' and played on lan, cs 1.6, i was 14 and was with my father who i only met up with once a year or so....who got me into gaming and always bought me new computers etc. I think he saw the dark side of me absolutely demolishing everyone in there and lightly taunting them too. My clan later competed in Australia to go into the cs 1.6 worldwide CPL qualifiers, we lost in the finals 15-7 on cbble. After a fair while we kind of shifted to Day of Defeat 1.3 slowly, and that is another game i miss dearly. Never climbed the ladder high in DOD as a clan, but it was just a time that extended the glory of cs 1.6 days.
And another story I'm sorry to be rambling but this footage brought out some emotions In 2001 my home town opened a cyber Cafe and the main game that was played was counter strike at that time I think it was still cs 1.1? Or maybe it was 1.3 by that time I can't remember but there was a tournament that was being held and the prize for the winning team was 100 hours of free time in the Cafe My friends wanted to enter I said at first guys I don't think we should my buddies had no idea that I had been playing counter strike for almost 2 years at that point and I felt like It would be cheating since I had all that experience in the game but then the popular kids and bullies entered the tournament and I said screw it I'm gonna destroy these dorks And through the entire tournament I never died once and single Handley won the tournament with my friends if we were the T's I told my friends just sit in choke points or guard hostages if we were cts I told them you can follow me if you want and I made sure my friends all had either the ak,m4,mp5, or awp The losing teams all accused me of somehow installing hacks on the computer but the Cafe owner told them nah he's just better then all of you We won 🏆 😎 lol

Can someone please explain why in every video about counterstrike the players rapidly switch between their rifle and pistol over and over? Is it some trick to auto aim or move faster or is it a weird nervous tic that sweaty players do.
you run faster with your knife and pistol plus on the situation you change what your secondary weapon would be might need your pistol next or a nade next you switch real quick so that it’s quickswitched to your secondary there’s multiple reasons
Pistols and knife give you faster movespeed And its some sort of recoil reset after firing from rifle then switch back to knife or pistol then back to rifle Also some sort of mannerism to keep your body and mind active and alert
