Gary Richrath, one of the best American rock guitarists.
Totally agree very underrated imo
Absofrickenlutely
I’d go one further and say he was THE BEST American guitarist. ❤
He was voted worst guitar player of the 80’s by guitar magazine in the 90’s proving how stupid most people are
He was like the Neil Pert of guitar players
The late great Gary Richrath had a very unique sound never duplicated by anyone R.I.P
For sure. Miss that guy.
Want from his Gibson les paul directly into his Marshall Amp with an occasional use of a wah wah pedal,.now that's a true Rock n Roll Guitarist., no gimmicks
The axe in Gary’s hands was an extension of himself. Effortless playing. REO was THE party band in the late ‘70’s. Saw them twice- always gave 110%. Rock on!👍🎸🥁🇺🇸❤️
The lyrics hit so damn hard to me... I still keep pushin on.
REO was an awesome, hard rocking band in the 70s. Then in the 80s they went into ballads. It was a bummer to see it happen.
It made them a fortune but disappointed us rockers and Gary fans.
@@eric_in_florida
It disappointed Gary too - that's one of the reasons why he quit the band.
After Hi Infidelity, I just completely lost interest, as even their biggest new hits were anemic.
Such a great live band. Saw them multiple times in late 70s and early 80s. Always a rockin show!
REO before the world outside of rock music knew REO. Gary Richrath was a guitar god, Kevin Cronin had (hell, still has) a voice gifted from the angels, they were a killer combination of hard rockin' and soaring ballads. Just great stuff from TMS, as always!
This song got played every morning while I was having my coffee, & it got me through my 1st divorce!
I love a good rock ballad, but this era, and the harder rock edge of REO, is my favorite. I feel like I am in college again. If you lived in the Midwest, they were so prevalent, they felt like your hometown band.
I don't think TMS ever put this clip out on any of the DVD sets. That's what the world needs more of is REO Speedwagon. I bet world hunger would end if REO Speedwagon was played often enough.
Could we get an REO TMS DVD ASAP?
I don't care if l ever hear another REO ballad, but Cronin and the lead guitarist really rock on this song!
My rock guitar gods growing up were players like Ritchie Blackmore, Stevie ray Vaughn and on the heavier side Jake E Lee , but I gotta say there is something about the enjoyment and enthusiasms that Gary Richrath plays with that is making him a favorite.
Tommy Bolin
The boys from Champaign-Urbana God’s Country Illinois❤️
Great band. Known by many for their power ballads, which are ok, but they could also rock with the best of them.
Love me some old school 'Wagon.
Midnight Special, just put an outstanding rock group on ,kudos to you for having excellent taste 🎉🎉
500 years of knowing REO and this is literally the first ime I've seen anything from them that pre-dates the "Keep On Lovin' You" video.
there's plenty on RUclips just do a search
Their 70s era contains some "hidden gems".In the 80s, they got mainstream.
Years ago, while training for a marathon, I used to run (pun intended) this song in my head.
Man this video is so 70s awesome you can practically smell the pot smoke and Love's Baby Soft 😂
You don’t look old enough to remember Love’s Baby Soft!
And Bonne Bell lip smackers 😊
Reo Speedwagon👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Rock-n-Roll Forever!!!
one of my all time favorite REO songs! thanks for posting
Before they went pop. I love it
...and got filthy rich
In Holland we only know Keep On Lovin' You... This band rocks!!
Same thing here , Golden Earring ! is only known for 2 songs , radar love and twilight zone .. Unfortunate .
The Earring got lots of hits in Europe and Schocking Blue also. Venus is their greatest hit but they got many beautiful songs...@@colinlobo474
Never got to see REO live but they kicked ass! 💯👍👍👍
FULL CONCERT PLEASE😢
The crowd was way out of their element. I remember watching this on a huge 21 inch Zenith Console, when I was 20. And my friends and I were sure moving. lol thankfully for the simulcast on WXRT it rocked..Had the real deal for sound systems. How I miss the 70';s..,.
Raucous performance by these guys! An early "big hair" band pre-'80s! Hehe
A lot of lip syncing was done on The Midnight Special but none here. Huge respect for the whole crew.
Kevin Cronin had quite the lions mane.
One of the greatest tv music shows ever
Thank you so much midnight special. You are my new favorite RUclips channel. These performances are in perfect condition.
Glad you like them!
The original, and the BEST!!
They're still Touring.
Happy Tuesday... thank you for sharing ! 💖
Yup, saw them a month ago, great concert.
Flawless performance in my eyes and ears.
1:29 .....Now that's enthusiasm.
Seen them in Nashville in 1978 they wasn’t the headliner I think someone forgot to tell them cause they was the show so great live
Wow, is that Bobby Kimball (from Toto) singing along with the backup singers?
it totally is!!!!!!
I was thinking the same thing! Who are those backup singers? We know everybody in the band.
They really pushed the tempo here (pun intended) compared to the version on the live album (which is great). This version seemed to be about to come off the rails. Good stuff.
❤
Bobby Kimball from Toto on background vocals all the way to the right.
keep pusshin on
Great band, Gary could play
Who are those backup singers? We know everybody in the band. Many of us think that Bobby Kimball is on the far right?
I agree Bobby Kimball due to his stance
The music business was (still is) bizarre. Toto released their first debut album in October 1978. This special was recorded (according to the stats) on September 22nd of 1978.
Yeess what a big surprise that Bobby Kimball sings chorus with Reo!! My two favourite bands of all times, Reo and Toto ❤
kevin has good eyes
lol. this is retro Iron Maiden
The audience looks dead.
Talented group that I forgot about! Cronin reminds me of Paul Stanley only I enjoy Cronin much better. Just an opinion sorry Paul!
"REO SPEEDWAGON, AT IT'S VERY, BEST, IN THE 70'S, THEN IT WENT DOWN HILL, IN THE 80'S, THOSE RIDICULOUS LOVE BALLADS,(CAN'T STOP THIS FEELING, ANYMORE, ETC.,ETC., AND ETC.), THEY SUCKED, CRY BABY MUSIC, NO ROCKING,"🤔🤔🤔⁉️⁉️⁉️
Were the lip synced
This performance was definitely not lip synced
@@robertbigelow1338 ok thank you
Before they turned into a soft ballad band.
