The planted tanks are really nice. Your house plants are amazing. Hope life is treating you well !! Thanks again for teaching us about the hobby.
Thank you so much for this video. I am new to this hobby and picked up a small 14gallon cube tank. Hopefully i am doing this right, but i am starting the tank with plants before fish. Great video. I can't seem to keep plants alive for more then 2 weeks. Water conditions are good and I do a once a week 10% or so water change. Also, I have 3 yo yo fish who love to dig and they dig up some of the plants. Java Fern I don't know why when I had them they grew green algae on them and the the the roots had orange stuff on them. Tank gets only 5 hours of from the tank light cause the room has natural light esp in the afternoon. I have soil and sand substrate.
I never had luck with java ferns for some reason which I don’t understand since all of my anubias plants have grown a ton in the same aquarium and I attached them to the same rocks and driftwood pieces
Guppie grass looks framilar. Think I seen this growing in a old creek and mill pond from the 1890's in pennslyvania. Did water test and the water was off the chart acid. Tried transferring wild but it died quickly.
For real everything gets algae over it or they melt.. root tabs and good light. "Turn the light down" then they don't grow... "Turn the light up" then they all get covered in algae.
You caught me on that! So… there’s tons of really good brands.. AquaIllumination, Fluval, UNS, ETC. but if we’re talking budget lights.. 6500k shop lights or Beamswork
@@PalmerAquatics I currently have Barrina 6500k LEDs in my 20 aquarium fish room and the plants are doing decent. I tried an Aqueon 36” and was garbage for what it cost. My dad has fish in planted aquariums and is helping me. But I'm doing research to get a betta (he's not interested in them) Are these easy plants for a beginner AND a betta fish? Or are there plants to avoid?

Any chance you would be interested in selling some live plants or any live barrier fish? I'm looking for guppies, Swordtails & Platy's. I live in Saint Cloud & make several trips to the cities.
Question: could you recommend an aquarium manufacturer? The reviews on Aqueon at Petco are scary. The 55 gallons all bowing and leaking. Trying to get into this hobby and buy some plants with a 55 gallon but don’t know who to trust. I’ll test it for leaks but they all seem to be of poor quality. Top Fin is supposedly worse than Aqueon. You have many glass boxes and wood appreciate your help. Thank you
That’s because the reviews are only from people that are unhappy. All of the happy people are not leaving reviews. Standard 55 gallon aquariums are some of the strongest of all the tanks in the hobby. There’s a couple of sizes that are known to almost never leak. The 20 gallon tall is one of them. The standard 55 gallon aquarium is one of them.
I watched your dirt tank set up and saw you put lived fishes to cycle your tank. I have a question, can I put a peace of meat or a dead fish instead to cycle my tank?
No don’t do that. I would use fish food if you don’t have fish. Just put a little bit into your aquarium once every couple days with filtration running.
Loser introverts unite..... separately. 🙂. Thank you for the info. Getting ready to set up a larger tank, 29 gallons. What substrate should I use? Thank you!
Even when I had a high tech tank I couldn’t get dwarf hair grass to grow well. In the low tech tank I have now Java fern would never really grow for me.

Great video Chris. Lots of good tips and information.
Thanks for the list bro
Would you be able to explain more about the "symbiotic relationship" between java ferns and anubias that you mention at 4:18?

do you have any videos where you stay on point?
Nice I like your vlog.
What lighting do you use ? What brand are the small ones ?
Jungle Val - It is coming out my ears and I have it in every aquarium. You want some?
what is the link for the substrate?
I picked up a 20 extra tall. Basically stacked ten gallons in size. I have jungle val and java fern. What else grows tall?
Hi Chris are you still selling Aquarium plants and if so what's the best way to get ahold of you to get some thank you

For a big tank like that I would do two 48 inch lights. I would get high quality ones because that’s a DEEP tank.
Any recommendations. Also I’ve been reading you have to replace the stratum after a couple years. Is that true?
what about pearlweed?
