"An incredible blend of performance and practicality -- the Skoda Octavia vRS is a fast car you can use every day."
I really like the way the Octavia VRS looks - it's the perfect sleeper. If I had any need at all for that kind of space, I'd definitely be considering one.

He is so young during this time hahaha really new to the game now he is my all time favorite car reviewer in car wow just so much fun with him
i got one and its bloody amazing car ,quality build ..
Hello, is it worth to buy this car now? How sturdy these engines are? 7years passed...
I'm thinking to buy.
@@plinker439 did you bought it? How it is?
I use a Skoda Octavia diesel estate at work and its a great car. Its an 08 plate and it has just done over 130`,00miles and it drives as good as new. Its never broken down and its great, but just a bit bland. I have noticed with the new Skoda`s they have twin exhaust tail pipes. However they are jus a round rusty pipe sticking into a chrome trim which is part of the rear bumper, which looks an absolute dog! Needless to say I have gone off track!! Whilst this VRS looks and performs great it still has the same exhaust tail pipe problems!!
i own VRS on 09 plate. and its a diesel. 170bhp 325ft torque. very nice everyday car. but it is boring. could be because i also own clio200cup. the octavia returns 46mpg. and thats urban/motorway/and driving it quickly. be careful of sun damage with the paint work if buying used. especially on spoilers. both fabia and octavia are known for it. not that we have much sun [ uk] but the last hot day we had. my spoiler also started to blister. and know looks a mess. done 35k in mine.
I actually liked this review. Both the normal Octavia and the vRS model are hugely similar. All the bits and kits are the same apart from the engine and other sporty additions. That's why he didn't spend time talking about the interior. What he did review were what needed to be reviewed, especially the DSG gearbox's effect on the cars mileage and weight ( since manufacturers are very vain when releasing the specs ). The Skoda vRS models pick up where Ford left with their Cosworth models.
I own a 62 plate VRs its a stunning car for the money, its a real sleeper car you dont get a second look until you pull away, diesel is worth every penny best performance car for the £££££ i would buy another one no problem good dealer service fair prices on service and and reliable put the key in and go, what more can you ask for

how about the L&K is that available for the VRS models?
Its Liftback - hatch tailgate on sedan. But Liftback is categorized as type of hatchback in car industry so in general they call it hatchback.
actually you are wrong, Porsche first used the 'Renn Sport/RS' words. Remember the RS2? also developed by Porsche on behalf of Audi. That was the FIRST Audi RS model.
Even today I get exited when I see it on road.
My Dad could've had the diesel version for his company car but he turned it down because it no CD player and he doesn't like the seats. So instead he got a VW CC GT TDI BlueMotion Tech
Like the question about being compared to a golf.
Today on the phone I left £1000 deposit on a 66 plate VRS estate. Diesel one. Collecting end of the week.
How's it been?
Sold it after 2 years and bought a petrol car.
I love this car, Id prefer this than a golf any day to be honest
I think Mexico could be a good market for Skoda, they are well equipped, reliable and safe cars and not that expensive agains its rivals, problem is that here in Mexico people are too pretentious, they buy a Merc, BMW, Audi (you name it) just because its a Merc, BMW, Audi... even they dont fully like it or isnt the best deal and even going into huge loans just to have one. So freshly arrived Skoda might not stand a big chance :/
I don't like Skoda, but this Skoda is very nice.
what a great machine
Nice car, but it still is the always Skoda...
It doesn't look enough sporty, even if it has an awul wing at the back...
That's why I'll go for the estate version, much better to look at in my opinion...
Y nobody is comparing the OCtavia VRS and GTI with the Focus ST, I believe it was the winner of the group test in all car battles, Renault and Astra cant match STs fun as well, then how does even a GTI has the fun of ST, also the ST wont win a track battle sure but its a FWD that behaves like a RWD that no other FWD car can really match, 39 mpg is good its has enough room good boot and best induction noise as well, also SKODA VW please stop making boring designs
I'm a big fan of your videos and we've been using skoda in past 20 years or more... After the octavia 2013 video you posted, I was really exiceted and couldn't wait for the VRS review...
...BUT...
No offence mate but, this review is a bit too sloppy. Since you also were already so impressed by octavia 2013 at your review, in my view, VRS would have been better and handled in more detail..
Keep up the good work!
Cheers!
Looks good sounds good hmmmmm
owned.. take your brochures with you.
He always mensions a renult sport megain
is it rwd !!!!
Copied? Car design is the work of Josef Kaban, who previously made design of audi models..
The mk2 looks nicer.
Hello
There you go: skoda.co.uk/models/new-octavia-vrs-hatch
*could
Fake engine note through the stereo.....nooooooooooo!
Its a notchback......... hatchback?????? really?
It's a sedan ... Not a hatchback!
MrAsyde its a hatchback
"doesn`t look as sporty as an astra vxr" - thats cos its not an astra vxr. Doesn`t look much like a tree - guess why!
CZECH REPUBLIC -_-
I dont like
its a hatchback in the shape of a saloon ,get your facts straight, your the muppet.
Copied Audi rs6
Dull, boring, overpriced, rubbish customer service and too big to be a hothatch it needs over 250 horsepower.
Such an ugly car...
my mother's Mazda can go quicker than that
the 2.0 litre petrol is 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph...... no your mothers Mazda cannot
you had a dream... we hear.
K Denny bullshit
I actually like this more than the golf GTI. Don't judge me,
bigger, cheaper, statistically more reliable...what's not to like about the VRS? :)
Same
My Dad has one
Same
@@stefanirimescu4027 For not being Volkswagen, or at least those who will judge think it, and it's ridiculous, because Sköda are good cars, and more practical
I hear very often that the dashboard in skoda, VW, Audi (...) looks boring and not very exciting but I have to say that I prefer the minimalistic design more than some childish new funky design from some other companies only because the want to try something new.
Exactly. Skoda is decent, dignified and elegant.
Because of your reviews and after searching on the difference website,
I had ordered1 in white looking forward to it in February:-)
Order one for me , i will never own something like this in my life :)
Glad you like it😄
Well im 19 years old and this is my dream car :) , but in my country i can work 10 years and cant afford it , enyoj :)
Ten years not that long just work hard do your best, it's took me 5 years to save up! So yeah what country you from?
Well average month salary is arround 200$ so do the math :D , Bosnia & Herzegovina
Hi Laszio, over here it's called the Skoda vRS, as Ford owns the right to the RS nameplate in the UK. Thanks for flagging it though!
Who's watching in 2020
2024
VW can´t allow Skoda to use V6 from Superb, because VW gets beaten in almost every part in Golf vs. Octavia battle. Even when VW tries to limit Skoda, they still do better cars than VW
Outstanding motor, ignore the badge and you have yourself a cracking car.
Do you own one? Still own it? Any problems with it? Thanks
Well I Love this badge, maybe it'snt the funnies cars to drive, but are the most practical, even their smaller model Citigo
This is a car I find really difficult to ignore.
NICE!!!
Boss car.
For crying out loud how car you compare the Astra Vxr with this beasty look...I respect your reviews Mat as i can....BUT at this point i think your wrong...Of course the look it's a personal issue but i had to tell you chech it out again!! :)
The thing I find with skoda, the front of the car looks awesome but they seems to forget about the rear, theres no imagination with the design at the rear
Completely agree. The front looks Audi-esque, but the rear,,, pfft. It's definitely an improvement over the older model though.
+Matt Jones True. The New Superb seems to have a better design at the rear so hopefully this will carry forward to the rest of the range in future design.
ordered, drive and love it ;)
I'm loving my VRS 2.0L Petrol Manual. Wolf in sheeps clothing is a bit unfair. It's stylish, spacious and quick. Not the most economical car on the road, but, damn good fun to drive. I test drove the DSG, but I prefer a more 'intimate' control of the vehicle.
I'm looking to get one next month. Cureently have a BMW 3 series 3 litre petrol but just cannot afford the petrol anymore :( going through £70 a week.
The Skoda looks really quick and seems economical which is what i'm after. Plus I really like the look of them. What has it been like for you?
sniktun1
I'm really pleased with it. It's comfortable on long journeys and has some poke from stand still as well as at the top end. Handy for overtaking.
I'm averaging 34 mpg which isn't too bad.
Take one for a spin, you'll love it.
I AM actually thinking about buying a octavia vrs but I be making it loud and fast and stylish.
Got one just before December fantastic car I love it I don't see myself in anything else for a long time 😁
This car is amazing.
Anybody here in 2019?
Yep. Trying to work out whether to buy one of these in estate form :)
2020 man😂😂
I was thinking about it too. But, compare to everything out there, the front designed of it makes it look like something from 2013 or before. Pass for me.
@@lordedward9587 It's corona time😂
The only dull thing with this car is the spoiler. It could have been way better or as good as the previous vRS models.
The most perfect family car. The wife won't even notice it's a fast one :-)
+john Hanson. Sorry what I wanted to say was the car is amazing and I agree with you, and I'm very happy with it😊
I've got an owner's review of a Skoda Octavia vRS mk2 here: ruclips.net/video/-88hP7se29Q/видео.html
Gorgeous looking car.
However, the thing that lets the car down is the exhaust. You stated it has "twin tail pipes", but the main round exhaust pipe is visible through the near side chrome bumper trim.(which can be seen at 4:03), not sure about the offside. Why not have a "REAL" large central positioned outlet, which will be the proper "Mc,-Coy"!
PS, this is my next car
any review on the next model when it appears?
Yeah but that's not until 2017
When he said engine from the Golf......oh god, why?
Nice
do you get the same induction roar from the exhaust in the diesel version? Other reviews suggest fake noise pumped into the cabin.
Can proudly say I own the original of this car and after 11 years and 135k miles it still puts a smile on my face :) good job skoda but this new one doesn't give the same sort of acceleration as the mk1, it is very smooth yet quick but my 2002 model is aggressive and you can feel the turbo kick in and hear it which just adds to the effect even though it's not as quick, I still love it!
Mk1 is much better looking too, more aggressive look to it
I just returned from UK trip renting Octavia for 6 days. Was diesel with 5 sp manual. Was very impressed with the handling, power & spaciousness. A great car that would be great for US market. I also got 46 mpg with mostly highway driving. Fantastic for larger car - 2 people with luggage. Loved it!

I might be alone on this, but the Octavia VRS sounds slow to me. 144mph and 0.60 in 7.8 seconds is the benchmark for superminis hot hatches. I know it's a lot larger and heavier than a supermini but on paper, it's slow. It's a case of its bark is worse than its bite. A 300hp V6 engine would be more appropriate for it's hot hatch branding. Still, i would buy this over a Passat any day of the week.
Fun fact about Skoda:
Skoda in czech has multiple meanings, all of them are negative:
1) damage (skoda na vasem majetku - damage on your property)
2) waste (some czechs say "Skoda - skoda penez" that means "Skoda - waste of money)
3) shame/misfortune - Hyundai plays a prank on this meaning in their TV ad "Chcete drahe auto s malou vybavou? A neni to Skoda?" - "Do you want expensive car with poor equipment? Isnt that shame/Skoda?"
Also the S with that symbol above is pronounced like SH in SHIT.
Automatic is good for people who just want to go somewhere. Manuals are for people who like to drive. Thats why Manuals are optional and DSG comes as standard today and why its reviewed with automatics.
1:27 that's how cyclists and walkers and joggers and horses are killed, coming round blind bends too fast to stop in time. Please slow down, the public road is not a racetrack.
oh no! If only there were a bunch of people by the side of the road on the radio to matt who could tell him if it was clear for the shot or not
I think Porsche sells them as GT3RS instead GT3-RS which does the trick. Skoda tried to kick some sense into Ford and asked them to use the RS but they feared the competition so skoda put small "v" in front of it and it actually looks nicer than only RS badge on the front grill so.
super been waiting for this..
Sure doesn't have the looks to kill. It's too high and the tires are too much inside the wheel arches. The Octavia 2 ph1 vRS looked and still looks a lot better.
Why is this classified as a hatchback? Isn't more of a smaller sized saloon?
Nonetheless lovely car, great noise and to be honest i think its one of the best looking Skoda's has made in quite a long time!
The 'performance noise' in the cabin in sport mode is prob that stupid soundaktor faking engine noise
Any who knows about cars knows this shares the same chassis (well slightly lengthened but a few mm) and engine/drive train as the Golf GTI and has done for years
Ford has RS badge. Skoda has vRS badge. The only problem in UK was that Ford owned RS badge over there so they had to change it slightly. It comes from Rally Sport, so what do you want to name it ? RaSp ?
It's actually RS not vRS... Look it up at the official Skoda website, or for that matter, the Skoda brochure.
Well, I did a research. Ford used this badge first in `70, skoda in `74, porsche in `83, audi in 90s and renault use it too. So... not so ford badge. Just means rally-sport / renn-sport.
nice car !
The vrs isn't sold in my country sadly.
I did see one. Congratulated the driver on his machine.
he said I was the first one to recognize the model.
@ItsAllAboutGTA sorry failed to understand how it is a rip off of VW, when VW GROUP own and make skoda anyways
Thats the point actually, it isnt wannabe-sportscar. it just tuned up family car. Its mass selling model.
the first skoda i actually like , it's a cool car >>> i think it's a nice combination and more manufacturers should do sport family car
Golfs- best in class, styled like lunchboxes.
'The Skoda Octavia has a large boot.' - Is that really the best opener you could think of?!
Still prefer the 1.8 Mk1 Octavia VRS if we're talking petrol, anything newer then has to be diesel!
why don't you guys ever tell the price? it would be nice if you did for several major markets or at least an idea of the price.
had the last vrs and it was the business.best all rounder there is and will get this in black when I can.great car good review .
Good review, but like the Skoda lacks that little funny side we normally get in Matt's tests.
good review, but..
t's not hatchback, it's liftback! :)
Jiří Šlégr
In UK we say hatchback 😉
Then Audi RS models isnt RS named in UK??? Audi is those who invented name-RS/RENN SPORT
quick tip ..... stop comparing it to hatch backs as its plainly a saloon....... muppet
Ah good one. Maybe Ford do not own it, but Skoda are too scared to challenge them?
it's pronounced SHkoda, not skoda, that's what the sign above the S means in Czech
The part where this car wins is PRICE!
1.9 TDI FTW
