    Some of my favorite musicians/groups never/rarely practice or rehearse, and made all their growth in their head, and/or in front of an audience.

      @@TysonGraf yep, and the Grateful Dead.
      Frank Zappa never practiced guitar, but he did rehearse with his band a lot.
      There are a few pianist, and jazz musicians, whose names I can’t recall either.
      There is also a famous pianist, who plays in one or two keys, and uses a transposing keyboard, like me.

      @@TheScreamingFrog916 As we know, Zappa was mostly a composer and band leader, which he intensely focused on. I haven't heard him talk about practicing guitar. But I do know he emphasized the importance of being an improviser when soloing. I can't think of any world-class jazz pianists that haven't practiced a lot.

    Hey, is there a difference between improvisational and compositional playing?
    Cus at the end of the day, I don't feel like improvisers are playing licks that they have totally no IDEA what they're going to sound like.
    Honest question. Very interested in your response. Happy Halloween! 🎉

    • @TysonGraf
      @TysonGraf  7 дней назад

      Hey there, the main difference is improvisational playing is creative in the moment and compositional playing is re-creative.

    One size does not fit all 🎶🔥
    +1 for using a looper for practice/improvisation.

    I also like how none of the Beatles could read music. It kind of goes along with what you're saying.

      Good point. There's not a lot of us jazz musicians that can't read, but my favorite jazz guitarist, Wes Montgomery, couldn't read.

      @@TysonGrafI just discovered Wes Montgomery, after I’d been hearing octaves in jazzy music for a long time, ie, Breezin, and not really understanding how that sound is made. Can’t get enough of him now! Still love George Benson too.❤. As for the practicing, yeah 10 hours is a ton. It’s definitely a labor of love to sustain that. Do it while you’re young would be my advice. Those fingers, back, and brain have their limits as we age 😂😂. Nice channel too, congrats 👍

      @GregMyser Thank you. To my ear, everything Wes played was perfect. His time feel, groove, phrasing, etc. If you're interested, I have a lesson on my channel about a Wes solo. Please join the channel if you haven't already.

    10 hour practicing sounds like absolute BS. my band practices every day for 4 hiurs, its seriously hard work mentally and physically. If youve ever played a four hiur gig you will know that practicing for ten hours with any worth is absolutely physically and mentally imposssible.

    Well, in the case of the Beatles, having played together for over 10,000 hours as a band, before writing and recording their albums, and having spent many, many hours learning (and practicing) their instruments BEFORE becoming a band, I am not quite sure you are on the right track.
    To play professionally, at whatever level, takes a certain amount of learning and practicing to achieve.
    If you are speaking of not practicing AFTER you have proficiency on the instrument, that is an entirely different thing.
    Sidenote: Hendrix had a guitar in his hands, from all accounts, all day, unless he was eating, in the bathroom, or having sex.
    He has no set "practice schedule" but that instrument was glued to him and was part of him.
    Jimmy Page practiced and learned for years before he became a studio session player and then formed Led Zeppelin.

    • @TysonGraf
      @TysonGraf  7 дней назад +2

      Of course, they had to learn how to play their instruments individually before they were a band. I'm, obviously, highlighting the fact that they didn't practice individually when they were a band. Did you watch the video? I made this very clear in the video.

      @TysonGraf I watched the first part and then came to make my comment. Yes, I watched the rest afterwards, and realized what you were getting to.
      Understand this. Your title says that The Beatles never practiced.
      I answered that.
      Make a less "click bait" title and you won't have a response such as mine. Maintain integrity, friend.
