    you sound like a very dedicated musician. And I'm nearly positive it's fact, if you want to technically improve on an instrument it takes practice, but like you said, music is so vast, and you don't have to technically be great on an instrument to play or create beautiful music. Some of the best (obviously subjective) music is simple

      @@TysonGraf yep, and the Grateful Dead.
      Frank Zappa never practiced guitar, but he did rehearse with his band a lot.
      There are a few pianist, and jazz musicians, whose names I can’t recall either.
      There is also a famous pianist, who plays in one or two keys, and uses a transposing keyboard, like me.

      @@TheScreamingFrog916 As we know, Zappa was mostly a composer and band leader, which he intensely focused on. I haven't heard him talk about practicing guitar. But I do know he emphasized the importance of being an improviser when soloing. I can't think of any world-class jazz pianists that haven't practiced a lot.

    I have never been a good player while I could play, however, it was always far more fun to jam, make noise try stuff out in the lockup studio than sit at home getting bored practising.

    Here is a tip on practice thst I try n do
    If I don’t play for a while , a few weeks or even months, I try n keep a recorder handy because I come up with happy accidents when I’m fresh into it or just run across cool lick or chord and I think I’ll remember it because it’s so simple but I rarely do plus the lick changes even from the first few minutes and lol try n just stsrt singing anything any words cause when I listen back especially weeks later the tunes with words are more interesting even if the words are cliche bubble gum or grunge it doesn’t have to be good 😊 keep a recorder handy is what I’m tryna say 🎉

    Hey, is there a difference between improvisational and compositional playing?
    Cus at the end of the day, I don't feel like improvisers are playing licks that they have totally no IDEA what they're going to sound like.
    Honest question. Very interested in your response. Happy Halloween! 🎉

    The Beatles were good songwriters, but not great musicians. People like Metheny and Hancock are great composers and musicians. So of course, they are less popular. Tyson, I think you are also a great composer and musician.

      @@TysonGrafI just discovered Wes Montgomery, after I’d been hearing octaves in jazzy music for a long time, ie, Breezin, and not really understanding how that sound is made. Can’t get enough of him now! Still love George Benson too.❤. As for the practicing, yeah 10 hours is a ton. It’s definitely a labor of love to sustain that. Do it while you’re young would be my advice. Those fingers, back, and brain have their limits as we age 😂😂. Nice channel too, congrats 👍

    10 hour practicing sounds like absolute BS. my band practices every day for 4 hiurs, its seriously hard work mentally and physically. If youve ever played a four hiur gig you will know that practicing for ten hours with any worth is absolutely physically and mentally imposssible.

    Well, in the case of the Beatles, having played together for over 10,000 hours as a band, before writing and recording their albums, and having spent many, many hours learning (and practicing) their instruments BEFORE becoming a band, I am not quite sure you are on the right track.
    To play professionally, at whatever level, takes a certain amount of learning and practicing to achieve.
    If you are speaking of not practicing AFTER you have proficiency on the instrument, that is an entirely different thing.
    Sidenote: Hendrix had a guitar in his hands, from all accounts, all day, unless he was eating, in the bathroom, or having sex.
    He has no set "practice schedule" but that instrument was glued to him and was part of him.
    Jimmy Page practiced and learned for years before he became a studio session player and then formed Led Zeppelin.

    • @TysonGraf
      @TysonGraf  Месяц назад +2

      Of course, they had to learn how to play their instruments individually before they were a band. I'm, obviously, highlighting the fact that they didn't practice individually when they were a band. Did you watch the video? I made this very clear in the video.

    They played short sets...played a very small percentage of the songs attributed to them. Also played a lot of covers. Its debateable if they even played on the albums.

    • @robertrobles4028
      @robertrobles4028 23 дня назад +1

      Not sure where you’re getting your information regarding The Beatles. Yes they were a cover band at first, but as soon as they began composing their own material, their concerts were usually all original songs. Yes they covered some Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, some Motown, but if you see any concert videos it’s mostly originals. As far as playing on their own records, they absolutely did. Of course they had orchestral players on their albums as well and famously Eric Clapton guested on the lead guitar on ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. If you’re referring to the controversy regarding Session Drummer Bernard Purdie claims that he played on a lot of Beatles songs, that has been debunked. He played on a few demos only, not one album or singles.
