In August of 1977 my family took at trip to Hollywood. It was during the peak of Star Wars popularity. The historic Grauman's Chinese theatre was the premier cinema in Hollywood to watch Star Wars. We also went to the Universal Studios Tour where the Jaws attraction had just opened; and Jaws 2 was in production. I was in heaven. This is an excerpt from my three part series titled "The Star Wars Phenomenon".

We must be around the same age. My sister took me to see Star Wars on opening weekend when I was 9. This was Toronto, so word of mouth hadn't quite spread, and the theater was half empty. But within weeks, all the kids at school were mesmerized by the movie, and we kept going back to see it again and again. But still, despite how blown away I was by Star Wars, nothing prepared me for Close Encounters a few months later, which was the most profound experience I've ever had in a movie theater. 1977 was a great year for special effects. In fact, 2001 got a short rerelease around the same time to capitalize on the films it influenced. Because I grew up on movies like that, I never liked CGI. The special effects for Star Wars, Close Encounters, and 2001 were invented from scratch FOR those films, which took the viewer into a unique world. When I see CGi, no matter how inventive the imagery, I can tell it was made on a Macbook in somebody's office. Star Wars in particular had such an impact on our psyches because of the totally original worlds and sensations it created, like nothing we had seen before. I saw your previous video on tracking down the Darth Vader mask. Such a magical experience you had. But anyone who was a kid at that time totally understands what it was like.

Thanks for sharing your story! I love hearing from others who experienced that wonderful, unique time. If you're a Close Encounters fan you should check out this episode. I went to one of the first science fiction conventions in Seattle and asked Douglas Trumble a question about the special effects of Close Encounters. I think you'll enjoy the recording! ruclips.net/video/NpKZh4TYinE/видео.html

My family did a similar trip when me and my brother turned 13 (I'm about to turn 19 while writing this) During our day spent on the star walk it was also "uncharacteristically rainy" 😂 That trip happened well before I became obsessed with elton john, had I been at the time I would have most definitely recreated his picture in front of his hollywood star. I distinctly remember my mom pointing at this big stadium as we passed it on the freeway, saying "look that's where the dodgers play!". I just glanced over quickly with little interest. If only I knew then that I had just seen THE Dodgers Stadium 😂🚀

Thanks for sharing your story! Maybe it’s a myth that it never rains in Southern California? 😎 I was an Elton fanatic when I visited in 1977; but had just become a Star Wars nerd. So I was an unusual combination. Thanks for watching!

0:20 Wow, that star would've been just a couple years old at that time.

That’s right! As an Elton John fan, I was so excited to find the star! Thanks for watching.

Her boyfriend left her?! He’s gotta be a total leftist lunatic to leave this beautiful woman. That explains why leftist women are so unattractive? They all have a sort of undefinable hard unfeminine quality.
