    the comments on this crack me up because??? Broadway is always changing?? you just can't say things like "this doesn't compare to the original" bc the cast will always change. the set will always change. the interpretation will always change. the original cast can't be playing the same roles for the rest of their lives, and to shut down a Broadway show bc the original cast left is a damn shame. you don't have to like this version, but please stop coming to the comments just to criticize and ruin the experience for others.

    Canadian Idol Winner Melissa O'neil is one of the backup dancers in this video. i saw her as Eponine in Les Miserables in Toronto and met her after the show such an amazing talent and such a nice person.

    I saw this on broadway when I was 12 in 1972. My first show. It was amazing. The music, the lyrics. Still know the whole damn show verbatim.

    This guy is not terrible, but man... Carl Anderson OWNED that part. He was too awesome for words. Also there's an expression "devil in a blue suit" I wonder if they conciously put Judas in a blue suit for this or if that was just a happy accident? (also LOL at "Jesus' " silk pj's. XD)

    how can you begin to compare this...to the 73 version where judas comes back dressed as an agel with wings made of frills, dropping from the darkness of the night by a crane and the metamorphisis of ted neely (jesus) where he transforms from a dirty unkept jesus into probably the most iconic image of the entire 73 jcs movie. a very moving and powerful image to say the least

    I don't like the color scheme for this. Blue is too low energy for this hyped song. This is like the climax, right before the crucifixion. You don't really have a song after this. You have to go out with bright and energetic.

    • @johnsmith-ot3zi
      @johnsmith-ot3zi 8 лет назад +1

      +rexroy101 you do know that Blue is the second highest energy color there is right? I mean what the fuck do you want Ultraviolet?

  • @ikarooz
    @ikarooz 8 лет назад +4

    This is one song from an incredible double album. I give the performers their due credit for their considerable talents. However, comparing any reproduction of JCS to the original is an exercise in futility. "Only Nixon could go to China." ~ a Vulcan proverb

    • @fatovamingus
      @fatovamingus 8 лет назад

      I don't get the Vulcan proverb thing but you are spot on with your assessment on the original. F'ing Sebastian Bach from SKID ROW played Jesus for a year.

  • @sammyloid8031
    @sammyloid8031 9 лет назад +9

    cringed at the "don't you get me wrong" part. mostly because our band director yelled at us for doing like this. the original is "don-cha-get-me-wrong" not "don't-ya-get-meeeee-wrong"

    • @josephcarlisle1943
      @josephcarlisle1943 6 лет назад +4

      Your director is making a copy of Jesus Christ Superstar not a production. Honestly, the way "ya" or "cha" is said doesn't change the meaning of the song. Your director shouldn't be hell bent on being like the original. I was recently in a show called Godspell, which is similar to Jesus Christ Superstar. The reason I think it worked, our production, is that we made it our own. Sorry if I'm being rude.

      @RoarOfWolverine 9 лет назад +3

      Amen, it's been over 40 years since the movie was released and yet Carl Anderson's perfomance as Judas has never been match. What an incredible singer he was. I saw him perform as Judas live on 3 different occasions and he was even better live than in the movie. Rest in peace Mr. Anderson knowing that your legendary performance will never be topped. What a great loss he was.

    • @opertinicy

      Wolverine Smith Both great, however Tim Minchin's performance, IMHO, is superior..

    • @RoarOfWolverine
      @RoarOfWolverine 9 лет назад +3

      +the_others I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one. Great thing about music; no right or wrong, it's just a matter of different tastes. I have heard probably over 100 covers of this song, many singers doing a clean job, but I just love the guttural quality Karl brought to his parts. He sounded so wrought, frustrated and angry, which is what I prefer for his part, especially on "Too Much Heaven On their Minds". Karl had a huge help in his corner as did all the actors in the original film since they were being directed by one of the greatest indy film directors of that generation, The great Norman Jewwison. Norm had a real talent for pulling that kind raw emotion from his actors in all his films. He had the vocal mix much dryer in the film than was done in the original brown album. I think he wanted us to hear the strain and crackle in their voices which otherwise would be covered up in heavy processing.

    The modernized outfits put more perspective on the dramatic perspective of this show. The costumes that are accurate to the time period are really just a waste of time because in this case it'll just look like a shitty production put on by a catholic school using left over outfits from the christmas pageant. And you're complaining about this being UNREALISTIC? the most unrealistic thing possible is people in biblical times singing about their daily whereabouts. You just got learned, son.

    I feel disappointed, I'm a baby boomer generation one. And this is a classical millenial generation production, production? There is no production at all! A giant screen (technology) substitutes everything. This is no just singing, it's about ACTING TOO! This is the worst version I've ever seen.....

      Seriously? How did you manage to make this about how much you hate millennials? And no it's not. The director of this production was a baby boomer

    Aghhhh is this the worst version ever ? Tonality too thin... arrangement is a joke ..awards mean nothing.. if your voice and dynamic does not suit the song....
    See Jan Dulles or Murray Head on how to sing this song

    Typical of the mainstream media to marginalized Jesus and celebrate Judas.
