George Michael and Nik Kershaw were his backup singers on this one with Nik also on the electric guitar.

One of the amazing background vocalists (especially at the end) was the one and only George Michael. Amazing song indeed!

I have the 7" vinyl sleeve of Nikita signed by Fred Mandel, Dave Mattacks and David Paton! I even chatted to Fred on messenger! he worked with Elton John, Queen etc. He told me loads about music and was a very friendly man. C.

This was a Cold War song about him falling in love with a beautiful female border guard...presumed to be an East German border guard along the wall in what was the former West Berlin and East Berlin. Many said it was the infamous Checkpoint Charlie.
The official music video was far better in explaining what EJ was trying say.

If I remember the music video there was a scene of him wearing gigantic boots....for some reason.........

The video suggests that Nikita is a female Soviet soldier but I think its more about Soviet oppression and it ending or something like that. If it is, then it is prophetic as I'm sure this was released before 1989. Nikita may refer to Khrushchev(?)

In the music video he's singing to a Russian female soldier.
