I had an Otto engine with a bore of approximately 8 inches and a stroke of approximately 24 inches. The cast-iron piston was stuck in the cylinder for years before I bought it and it took me off and on one year to remove the piston. The piston remarkably was in good condition but the cylinder bore was not so I sent it to a place in in the New England states that knew how to bore and sleeve something that large. It turned out perfect. So it’s amazing what is available and how things can be saved. The engine had considerable value of around $25,000 and it was only a single cylinder engine but, one of three in the United States.

Dont be scared using sleeve , be scared if your not confident in your machinists.

One of my favorite uses for sleeves are the kits I've seen that convert your engine from an open deck to a closed one. Then you can REALLY go bonkers with boosting as much as your heart desires (or til you blow the drive components)

Here it's a common practice to change the sleeves when it's needed, nothing scary about it if the garage makes a quality job as they should.

Thanks Danny for the video on engine sleeves. My question on sleeves is what keeps them inside the bore. Wishing you and your family well Take Care

The press fit holds them in place, I like to leave a step at the bottom to keep them from moving and I don’t have to use tons of press fit.

I got a question about sleeves. I know it's common to fix a cylinder that might be cracked or damaged in some way but have you ever, or does anybody ever save a block that might be rare by sleeving all 8 cylinders? Or can that be problematic??

Sometimes you need to and it can be done without any issues on most engines.
