For example, you say diamond shovel, which in German is diamond = Diamant and shovel = Schaufel. Now we don't just say "Diamant Schaufel" but "Diamantschaufel". We put the words together. Another example: oak planks For oak we don't just say oak when we talk about planks, but oak wood. So: oak = Eiche wood = Holz plank = Brett together: Eichenholzbrett. It makes more sense than you think.

I actually am a German myself xD But yes, I try to pronounce letters as they stand but the problem is that in different languages the pronunciations vary and I assume that if one does not know a language, one has no idea what exactly the way of pronouncing is and (subconscious) sticks with the way one’s used to, which mostly ends up with the native language of the speaker. For example English and German are so different, not just in pronunciation but also there, so if you’ve never heard German before I understand that you automatically pronounce it in an english way. Like with “Buch”. It even could be an english word, the way it’s written and as someone who doesn’t speak German - what other way of pronouncing could you think of? 👀🙈
