Now, we have 38 provinces and still counting. Maybe few years later, it could be 50+ provinces or at least 45 provinces. Because a lot of provinces has huge area and need to split into few provinces

Are the splitting mainly around historically ethnic/ tribal lines, or geographically?

if u see from the province name, just geographically. The new province always made from 2++ regency/city from the old province@@thevictorone

and split territorial also happen in regency/city. Not only provinces, because huge area. It happen in all Indonesia region. Even in Java could get new provinces and a lot of new regencies and city in few years@@thevictorone
