...THIS is why Grace was a GAY ICON, before she became revered for her work with Jean-Paul Goude; NO ONE was doing this style of homage-performance Art, in the 'Disco' World, or ANYWHERE!! ....and, Gay Men were experiencing it FIRST, here at the Roseland Ballroom!! ....I know she's loved for her Sly & Robbie 80's work, but THIS remains my favorite Grace period... the 'Disco Trilogy' work (1977-1979), with John Davis & The Monster Orchestra..just SUBLIME.....
...she was already fully formed long before she met JPG.....a lot of sexist people do not want to give her her props for that...but gay men of a certain age KNOW....she brought a form of theatre to a new music genre...and everyone loved it...her competitors were always looking to see what she was going to do next...sing next...her versatility was staggering...and the whole time she was LIVING IN HAUTE COUTURE...YVES SAINT LAURENT...would GIVE HER CLOTHES...and then sit in the front row at her performances...and SMILE...at her wearing his clothes...he called her...THE NEW JOSEPHINE BAKER.....ISSEY MIYAKE..gave her clothes...VALENTINO...she would clean out his shop with pieces she would just take...and he would SMILE....nothing against JPG...but GRACE...was living that LIFE...and working her CAREER.....at the HIGHEST LEVEL..AND THE DEEPEST LEVEL...long before JPG.....
The placement of her voice is so beautiful at the beginning, so full and rich... And this whole performance is flawless, she nailed it even better than in her studio version... Grace Jones is an amazing singer, and plus she has the whole package, she's a great actress!!!
Just wonderful, Grace at her dizzy disco heights with so much attitude she is just a trailblazer in all her live performances. This is quite special though. I think she's the only woman that could give Ron Mael from Sparks a decent stare out & see who breaks first.
Since he went away, The day grow long... And soon I'll hear, Old winter songs, But I miss you most of all, My darling, when autumn leave start to fall...
My favourite period of miss Jones is her disco period ..do or die .I need a man .that's the trouble ..on a summers night ..the box set is fantastic ..I play it regularly ...love it
Intriguing and symbolic choice of costume to support an image in the lyrics which refers to a sea voyage, perhaps, a point of no return. Such poise for a profoundly nostalgic theme. I met Grace last year in London and spend some time with her, she spoke with the modesty of a true artist. "..Tout doucement, sans faire de bruit Et la mer efface sur le sable Les pas des amants désunis..." "..All softly, without making noise And the sea erases on the sand The Steps of divided lovers..."
GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "Remember when Grace accused Lady GaGa of imitating her? The outfit Grace is wearing in this clip was 'borrowed' from Marlene Deitricht in a 1930's movie called 'Seven Sinners'. Remember when Grace was hailed as the 'Deitricht of the 80's?' Grace opened her early disco shows riding a motorcycle. Josephine Baker was doing that in the 1950's. But Grace IS an original! I will never forget the night I met her and how gracious she was to me."
Upload it man! No other go to do it, If I had that show I would share it with the world, it deserves to be seen. Use a fake account in case of copyright (sorry for my horrible english)

The queen of androgyny - traces of what Ronny and Annie Lennox would explore a few years later. Just stunning!
