Just had my old car radio replaced with a Pioneer (DEH-S7200BHS) in my 2005 RAV4 and want to try this with my old stereo. I looked through so many of the DYI videos as a beginner and this is the one that I could follow. Would be great to keep using my old Toyota radio with its CD player (and cassette player!). Fingers crossed, I do it right. Thanks so much.
I’m wondering how I can hook RCA cables to the back of one…then run it into another home amplifier. I don’t know anything about this stuff so it might take a while to see what I can do.
should I use a set of lithium-ion rechargeable accumulators (hooked up to a charger circuit that can handle both the load of the power supply for the stereo and charging the batteries, and a power supply providing nominally 12V) if i want a battery-powered home stereo?
What about the station memories and the clock and all the other radio settings ? Won't those be lost when the power adapter gets shut off or interrupted ?
Yeah, you are correct normkirk65, if you unplug adapter. Only way to get around this, is to leave adapter plugged in, or use a battery backup, but then you might as well go another route. Did you try this (project) by the way? What unit did you use? Anyways, THANKS FOR WATCHING, and for commenting!
Yeah, absolutely you can use any sticker that you want... The one that I'm using in the video it is from a regular home stereo system that was just a cheapie one!
Very clear tutorial ur done mate. I have an Eclipse AVN669HD which I try powering on using Computer PSU. It supposed to be okay once i connected the ACC and Batt wire to the PSU 12+ V wire. It did start with the sound of the system turning on, the button light also came up. THe problem is, the screen refuse to light up. Is there any connection that I am doing it wrong. Or its just screen being faulty?
Hey MUHAMMAD...yeah, it sounds like the screen is faulty from what you are describing, especially since the sound is on. Kind of has me stumped though, without me being able to actually "play" with it to see what I could come up with. Sorry I couldn't be more of assistance. Let me know how it works out for ya;-)

I have a question. What if, instead of connecting directly to speakers you were to connect a female headphone jack so that you could plug in headphones or powered computer speakers? My concern is that the 200w car stereo (50w per channel) would send too much power to the headphone jack and blow something out. Would I just need to keep the volume low? thanks
Hey Wiley.. you can put bigger speakers on there but, the output of the signal is only going to be as much as what the stereo is it originally rated for.. and hooking up an amp would require its own power source and would further require another adapter. It's possible, but then you run into the issue of how many watts and amps another calculations you would need to satisfy the system, and that specific for every application. Thank you for watching and commenting.. and for the scope of this video, I would just say to stick with the head unit and not complicate it with a amp:-)
Great question TG...and my answer is, is that it couldn't hurt. Especially if this is going to be a long term "addition". But, I don't necessarily think that it necessary. As always though...if there is any doubt, always consult a professional...it is better to be safe than sorry! Thanks for the awesome question though:)
I tried doing this with a cheap radio. The radio turns on and it’s looks like it’s playing music(the little waves in the back jump up and down) but no sound is produced, I also have a subwoofer connected and it’s doesn’t produce sound either. You might think it’s because the stereo is cheap?
Crap Gezuz...this has me stumped! I usually always try the easy stuff first, so I will start with the first thing that I can think of which is make sure that your connections to the radio and to the speaker are correct and made it up properly and are not exposed. Then if that doesn't work, and you have another speaker that you can use to check on real fast, that would be exceptionally helpful. But like you kind of said in your response, I am suspecting that the radio might be the problem and not actually the speakers, cuz it would be a real weird coincidence that all the speakers would not work including the subwoofer. Sorry that I don't have a absolute answer, but let me know if you get the problem solved because now you can sparked my interest.. thank you for the awesome comment and for watching:-)
Great question Darron! Short answer, NO. It will fry the circuitry in the head unit FAST. Only way that works, is if you cut and splice into opposite end AFTER 12V converter if your converter is in middle of original line (course, then there would really be no need to do that anyway, unless the outlet plug was damaged from your original 12v power cord). Thanks for commenting!
Hey Kilo...pretty much any speaker will work, but like any other system, if the source head unit is only capable of so much output power, and speakers can handle more, you won't be able to utilize the full capacity of the speakers sound...just like if it was hooked up in your car. But no, you won't hurt anything;-0 Thanks for comment Kilo!!!!
I did this with DMHD1000 HD Radio reciever and it worked. The only problem is that the RCA audio output is way to powerful. I'm using a 12V 800mA power adapter. Does anyone know the best power output? Should I try a 12V 500mA or go higher at 12V 1.5A? I know it's putting out too much power out on the RCA connectors because when I "mute" the reciever the output audio is quieter and clearer. No, the DMHD1000 does not have bult-in volume control like a regular steteo system.
I tried another 12V 0.75A adapter and it did not fix the audio issue. I tried using a modified Car cigarette lighter jack that I plugged into my 12V 500mA USB to cigarette lighter adapter and the device snaped on and off and wouldn't power on. I ended up giving up and just switching back to the old power supply and using the RF modulator with another radio for clear audio which is fine because the device that I'm hooking it up to also has a radio.
Hey what's up man! Awesome video! I want to do this in my own home, and I want to try to get a stereo head unit that has HD Radio and Apple CarPlay built in. Could this be possible to do? and hot glue and/or shrink tube beats electrical tape🤗 every day
LOL...Too true John...I have been known to use these "hacks" a few times in my projects also! Thanks for the comment man...did you try out this little "craft"? Anyways, THANKS FOR WATCHING and the little extra knowledge:-)
@@hurstysgarage no not yet but I will ill be buying a double din with Bluetooth/removable 11"screen and build it into a custom bedframe/head board with built in speakers
apulstered in a pleather it's an idea I've been contemplating for about 2 years now
lumber prices as they are supposed to be dropping in 6 to 8 months but I've also reclaimed lengths from a 10 ft pallet so I'm a 1/3 of the way
I was thinking of a TV but this would be much better oh and thanks for vid big help😎😍💯
My stereo is with black and yellow wires only , there is no red wire.
You just need to find out which one is negative, and which one is positive then it sounds like 👍
Dude cool video and all but seriously you got to get to the point more quickly. You're spending 3 minutes just telling me that I'm going to obviously use whatever I normally use to strip wires. This video should have been like 4 minutes long at the max. I'm pretty sure you literally described what a speaker was at one point. We get it. I promise. Not saying this to hurt, only to help.
Yeah, one of my first videos...and I still SUCK at doing these🤣
I do appreciate input, and thanks for watching!:-)
dude i watched 4 min video about this same thing and dude is asking un thw comments how im gonna connect my car radio in my room
Mine keeps turning on and off what is going on please help ✌
what about adding an amp
The charger won't do anything to ham the current
I’m trying to do this for my truck with a coyote swap 😂 because wiring is 3k
35$ head unit + 35$ 350 watt PC power supply 10$ antenna 54$ pair of 70 watt rms 3 WAY SPEAKERS , a 35 $ small 6 band amp/equalizer 49$ 22inch plastic toolbox to make it look good .... not as cheap as a boom box but its yours
The other issue is that your home speakers are 8 ohms and your stereo output is 4ohms
Exactly, most diy'ers may not know what that means. A mismatch is bad news for the speaker(s) and/or the output transistors.
It’s not working for me and the power supply keeps blinking
BOSS WORK! 🫡🫡🫡
My radio keeps shutting off when music comes on
For some reason it's not working for me
Were you able to get it Ethan...there are definelty so many variables sometimes that just make it a real head scratcher to why this does not work for some. It could be that the existing radio is no good, to the plug in, to a wire incorrectly mated. Hope you can figure it out...let me know:-)
Mine comes on for a few second than keeps shutting off
Güzel
Any geek here? I'd like to use this for kitchen. I would use led driver 240V. Because of high energy prices in my country I would completely shutdown when not in use. So my guestion is how much amps batery is neded for memory in android car radio? So when main rail shuts down settings and fast boot stays. Sorry for gramma... dang
im 13, i tried this, and the radio blew up
...painful. Had to give up watching after 5 minutes. So much 'waffling!'...
Talk tooooooooo much!!!
Yooh you so taking time explaining just do the work brue
I buy the following thankyou
