In a game based on a movie about a shapeshifting alien, Kevin’s first instinct is to act like a murderous alien.
Kevin was the alien the whole time!
Vaguely based on the novella "Who Goes There?" by Don A. Stuart aka John W. Campbell and the movie adaptations in 1951, 1982, and 2011. The horror/paranoia is in not knowing which of your crew were "possessed" or even whether you were. If the game writers were smart, there would be a variation where you get knocked out and wake up more distrustful and irritable than before, and you find out later that you had been possessed.
@@chasebranstetter3888 Naw, I think it's more fun to *be* the infection - as a secret agent you infiltrate, impersonate, and eliminate, with the goal of taking over! That way, the game *has* an ending.
@@chasebranstetter3888 Sure, who says there's only one alien power? Free to play, a group starts at the same time, play continues 24/7 until winner or all quit, pay for "upgrades." Not sure if each species has different quirks, but thats season 2+.
Hire a good 2d artist.
@@chasebranstetter3888 Seems reasonable. I'd check for similar games first. The difficult part is to make the game interesting even if you are losing; perhaps a social element? But only one winner, which guarantees betrayal. Of course, all this is public, so you'd better be first!

@@nicholasg6821 one of the best horror movies ever
It is quite a terrifying movie. All practical effects (aka no CGI; they didn’t have it then), awesome cast, respectful of its source material. It’s atmosphere never, not once, drops being one of pure nightmare and anxiety.
I wish American horror cinema wasn’t such an embarrassment these days. I also wish they never did a modern remake/reboot/prequel-sequel for The Thing. The ending in the film is one of the best (and scariest) kinds in horror media. It’s ambiguous and left much to speculation.
Hearing Kevin say "alright guys we're gonna end it there" is like having your mum tell you to pack your toys and get ready to leave your friend's house.

Your opinion on The Thing vs Alien?
@@luigivercotti6410Spoilers for The Thing 1982 :) Also I apologize in advance for the length of my response!
I think both are phenomenal 1980's alien movies, but my horror-loving heart belongs to The Thing. I think The Thing is a perfect mixture of distrust, paranoia, practical effect body horror, and memorable and distinct characters. Alien definitely has its place as one of the scariest alien horror movies of all time, but in my opinion it's too consistently "action based" for lack of a better term, whereas The Thing is a bit of a slow-burn with randomly-pants-shittingly-scary bits, such as when the team tries to revive Norris after he has a heart attack. When I first watched the movie, that part got me because it throws in a sudden scene of terror and practical gore in a sequence of quieter, tension building scenes.
My personal favorite part, the part that really scared me (a full grown woman) enough to pause the movie and find my cats to cuddle, was the part where the group follows Bennings outside and Bennings, who has been Thingified, slowly turns to the camera and releases that sound that gives me full body goosebumps to this day. That's the part where I thought, "oh god, this movie is *scary*". I never had that moment with Alien--although the chestburster scene did nearly make me vomit when I watched it, hahaha!
I do however think that the "final hero" approach of both movies, where there's only one person (plus one cat, in the case of Ellen Ripley) who survives the harrowing experiences of the movie. The whole "picking off the group, one by one" method brings such a feeling of tension and urgency, where you know the less humans there are, the more likely the alien is to win. Additionally, both movies do the locational isolation trope so well, whether it's Antarctica or friggin' outer space. Each movie plays with the idea of, "if this alien gets free from this specific confine, Earth and human life is totally boned".
Building off the idea of paranoia, both movies have different approaches. Alien's approach is mostly built off of "where is this alien" whereas The Thing is all about "WHO is this alien". The fact that The Thing takes away the humanity of the group is a bit more frightening to me, since these men are mostly friends, and they trust each other (some of which for years and years--I think it's Garry that says he's known Bennings for ten years? Correct me if my memory is faulty haha). There are specific parts of the movie where it's shown these men don't trust each other enough to watch each other's backs--Blair tries to throw Clark under the bus, Clark tries to kill Mac, Mac has to test everyone's blood, etc. It's a cycle of mistrust because is your fellow man really a man? Is he human anymore? Or is he something else? As we find out during the blood test scene, Clark was fully human at the time of his death ("Which makes you a murderer, don't it?" Childs quips), further cementing the idea that paranoia is the true killer here. The men are so ready to turn on each other the second they find out what the Thing can do.
Alien and The Thing are fantastic horror movies cut from the same ahead-of-its-time cloth, but the facets that each movie shares (isolation, paranoia, gorgeous practical effects, final girl/guy trope, etc) is, in my opinion, done better by The Thing. What are your opinions? I'd love to hear them :)
@@LouMoss31 First off, that's an unexpectedly splendid articulation and insight with which you replied to such an innocuously posed question, and that's excellent. (spoiler, obviously, for both movies)
At any rate, I would also prefer The Thing overall, possibly because it more appeals to my taste for crime novel-type structures and plots, and of the thrilling tingle that subtle, barely noticeable mental connections induce unto me. However, I do think you might be doing Alien just a bit of a disservice in not recognizing Ash (the android, remember?) as the true evil in that movie. In this way, the two movies (and arguably, a lot of horror movies) incorporate the idea of a "monster", though sadistic, a mere agent of evil, only allowed to exist and inflict dread, pain, and misery because a much more human malevolent consciousness is allowing to. In The Thing, this consciousness might be manifest in the fact that the members of the expedition were vaguely hostile towards one another from the very start (it's been some time since I last saw it, but that's the impression, the _vibe_ I got. I mean, they say to know each other a long time, and yet, in the entire movie, even before the discovery of the thing they don't seem to have even a single friendly exchange, the most convincing pretense of it being sarcastic humour, if my memory serves), and also quite isolated by themselves (case in point for that, the introduction scene of McReady, up in his tower, playing chess with not a human, but a computer. There's also the dog guy, I can't remember his name, but he seems to have no desire of human company either, and of course, the scientist is pretty bonkers from the very start). The "thing" can then be thought of as the incarnation of the team's existing, or even innate, feelings of distrust. In a somewhat similar vein, the titular alien could be regarded as a twisted biological horror with a morbid penchant for half-sexually disturbing invasion and traumatization of living creatures, not much unlike a cold-minded scientist indifferent to the spirit of his test subject, the character fitting precisely with Ash, the machine science officer. I mean, it's no wonder our vision of aliens is that of scientists who abduct living things, like cattle or people and proceed to probe them... As I would consider The Thing a sort of Agatha Christie (for instance "and then there were none") type of horror, I would say about alien that it's pretty heavily a HP Lovecraft, existentially inscrutable type of horror, as might be portrayed by what I consider to be its most bone-chilling scene in the exploration of the ancient spacecraft (the second scariest one for me is, oddly, the opening scene with the near still shots of an empty, nay, _emptied_ , ship). One aspect in which I think The Thing outshines Alien is in its ending, a sort of finale of human tenacity and willpower by MacReady, engulfing the entire camp in the flames... and yet, slowly, but surely, the fire, both in the camp and inside his heart is gradually drowned and snuffed out, in due time leaving only a single terrifying inhabitant lurking, waiting, inside its trap, carrying a disposition as chilling as the ice concealing it. PS I would apologise for the wall of text on display here if I didn't have a hunch that, kinda like me, you seem to enjoy that kind of thing... (pun not intended, I swear)

The Thing but Kevin enforces strict gun control on the military
11:25 The Among us Master before we knew he was the among us master
The Thing but Kevin is the real monster
Omg! Thank you, thank you, thank you for playing this!!! Loved this game.
6:35 is honestly the first time I've ever seen you censor a video and it's a real piss bummer. I've watched so many videos too, but I guess none of them were particularly violent upon hindsight. It's so ridiculous that RUclips feels the need to demonetize people for gore as if people too young for gore should even be watching Kevin's videos.
And now it’s getting remastered! Glad this game’s getting some love
Also, pursuing friendships? Lame. Watching your vids? Way better.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, good to see this game and Kevin doing it justice xD

Yay it's like you listened to my comment on the last video how I love weird ps2 era games! 😊
Kevin we have the same chair and I'm depressed. Not from the chair tho.
Loved it, man. I'd love to see more!
The Thing but it still looks better than the movie remake
Lmao!
I liked the remake.
It was not a remake, it was a prequel
Lars needs training
@Blake lastname it was definitely a horrible remake
kevin: this game is so dark, i can’t see anything, always lost, i’m constantly cold and never watched the movie it’s based on
also kevin: i actually really like this game
it loaded for a second and when it started the volume was all the way up and I got jump scared by *HEY THERE FRIENDS HOW'S IT GOING MY NAMES KEVIN*
"Hey there friends MY NAME IS KEVIN" *Shows part zoomed in pixelated game, or somthing trippy* lol this is great.
I love the thing
I also waste my life on the I internet
