08 Celtics were absolute beasts, tbh, and the Lakers were too green for such a big scene as a Finals against such a ruthless team. It's usually forgotten that the Lakers had just moved up from an average team in the West to a title contender just because Pau's trade, and that it had been only a couple months since that trade. Other than Fisher and Kobe noone in the Lakers knew about being in such a huge stage, what it took to actually win, and it was the first time past 1st round for Pau. Maybe against another team they'd been champions, not against those Celtics. '10 saw a much mature Lakers team able to compete in grit with Boston. And in some ways I think it validated '09, because there were some voices which said that '09's ring had been Lakers' because KG's being hurt. They certainly learned a lot from 08's loss and used it to come back at them two seasons later. Anyway huge respects for KG. Sensational player, sensational competitor, and a legend.
The thing is KG and the celtics were focused on stopping Kobe. He played good/good enough defense on his man but he cared more about heping/rapping Kobe, etc.
Just when I was gonna request more KG videos too. I really thought that backcourt violation save and the putback dunk on Gasol in Game 1 would be on here.
Danny Ainge trading away perkins killed this celtics team. KG was never a natural 5, and the big frontline of Pau, Odom, and Bynum was too big for the whole league
Pau is a extremely skilled bigman. Kg is not that good a one on one post defender, did used his intensity to bother his as much as he can, but his most contribution as DOPY is helping on the parameter defence especially against superstar scorers
garnett was the best defender of his generation, maybe of all time. better than bill russell, better than kawhi, better than duncan or zo or whoever you want. his sheer speed, length, and intelligence* gave him the perfect defensive tools. quick as a guard, long as anyone, computer-smart. give props to the Big Ticket *(such a loaded word, he thought extremely quickly and had an excellent memory and intuition of set plays)
Garnett was a more versatile defender, but that doesn't necessarily mean the better defender. For another example Anthony Mason was much more versatile than Ben Wallace, but as underrated as Mason was, Ben was a much better defender.
lol I dont even think Tim Duncan himself thinks he was a better defender than KG. Its not just about versatility, KG had better hands and quicker pivots. Also a much better communicator and anchored that Celtics defense that was literaly keeping teams from getting to the rim. I dont want to take anything away from Duncan but he didnt have nearly the same impact as KG defensively.
@@nobodytouchesmj9780 LOL ARE U BLIND ??? DUNCAN LOST GOLD MEDAL CAUSE HE CANT SWITCH PERIMETER OR DEFEND GUARDS. JORDAN IS NOBODY. BIRD 6-0 VS >>>> JORDAN

This video showed just how good Pau Gasol was with the Lakers
10:01 KG Smothers Pau Gasol and forces jump Ball with One Hand. Absolute Monster, ANY THING IS POSSIBLE
Pau was a beast
did you even watch this vedio to the end

Gasol is also a smart offensive player & he realized that he had like 20 pounds on KG. That's why he backs him down easily on most of these plays!

What a battle, these dudes were relentless

mattroom gary payton?
Debatable not a better permiter defender then kawhi th9
The footage from Game 1 was zoomed in, but the remaining games are sized properly
Duncan. As well as the better overall defender and player
