“Reorganizing the attacks is not something you can do on the original games” I’m sorry if I’m crazy, but the select button when used from the move select screen in the battle menu allowed you to do this right? Also, great vid I just discovered you channel through Pokémon card gb runs and I love it!
I had this game, but never owned a GB Pokemon game. Playing with rentals is still very fun, so even without using your personal mons you can have a lot of fun with this one.
I think they did a good job balancing the rentals by giving the weaker ones better moves and the stronger ones weaker moves. Even still, some of those battles get crazy frustrating
One of my all time favorite N64 games! I'm glad to still have my original copy to this day, and I still go back to it at least once a year. Also, you totally can switch the placement of your moves around in RBY, just push Select after opening the Fight menu in battle when all four moves are displayed. This should cause there to be a white cursor left point to the attack you clicked Select on, then just move the main cursor to the attack you want to swap with and press Select again
Gen 1/2 actually had the easiest way to reorganize moves. Just press select in the battle menu. Compared to that it’s a right hassle in the modern games where you can’t do it on the fly.
Just reminds me how the German announcer from Stadium 2 would end up being the voice actor for Rick Sanches, making this gane even better in retrospect.
I have such fond memories of Stadium, I played it long after its release while visiting my adult step brother who knew I was obsessed with Pokemon. We had a great time just battling in rentals mode, it's good fun for a short session with friends. Also hell yes Paraspectre talking more about the Pokemon Trading Card Game for the Gameboy Color.
15:03 you can reorganize the attacks on the games just press select when selecting an attack, move to the slot you want it to be at, press select again
Still to this day I remember how awesome were the animations (better than the recent ones from the main series) for the moves and how challenging was to fight Mewtwo without using thunder wave or praying for freeze.
I honestly can’t remember if I ever got to the Mewtwo fight back in the day. I knew it was a thing, so maybe? I just remember getting incredibly frustrated at some of those late game battles
The 40 pokemon that made it in the game (Japanese Stadium 1) were the 40 pokemon used (collectively) by the finalists of the very first Japanese Pokemon tournaments. Even today, they're more or less the best pokemon in gen 1 competitively (other than Mew/Mewtwo, anyway). I think it was made as a platform to have real-life competitions on, but I don't have any source on that. Stadium 1 JP is a wild ride, though. The opponents, instead of having generic names like "Bug Boy", "Lad", etc., all have the real-life names of participants from said Japanese Pokemon tournament *and* the actual, real life teams that they used. It's a neat little piece of history. I love it to death, but fuck pokemon stadium. Playing this shit without a transfer pack is legitimately the hardest video game I have ever played in my entire life. I've been trying to beat this game for 20+ years of my life and I still can't win the last few Tournaments of Round 2 (looking at you, Pika Cup). That's right, you have to beat the game *twice* to actually win. If you're looking to go beyond the challenges you've been doing with Pokemon TCG for GBC, then give nightmare of a game a try lol. As "lacking" as it is to not have your preferred pokemon to use, trying to make any progress with the absolutely garbage pokemon this game gives you is a herculean task. For reference, the "speedrun" to "complete the game" (i.e. beat the four tournaments (Poke and Prime have to be beaten 4 different times on increasingly hard difficulties), beat the "Gym Leader Castle", beat the Final Boss, and then do it all a second time with way harder opponents) is 20 hours long, and only one person has ever bothered to do it. Lastly, the announcer is the only thing that makes this game bearable when things are going badly for you. When the AI starts cheating in the tournament modes by sending higher level pokemon than what you get with the rentals, the announcer starts making extremely campy, yet condescending remarks at your expense. It's got that 90s flair to it that's undeniably great.
@@Paraspectre I don't know if you played beyond gym leader castle (which is all that was mentioned in the video), but Poke Cup Master Ball ("Level 50-55") and Pika Cup ("Level 15-20") deserve their own special places in hell.
