I did the anime pokemon challenge too. Releasing the pokemon and not evolving. That's actually how I learned that non-evolved pokemon learn moves faster. Man the late 90s and early 00s were so good for Pokemon.
This version will always be special to me. I watched the anime first, so the anime references hit home. It looked much better than red or blue (in my opinion as a kid). My older friend showed me the Mew glitch, and Missingo. I went through packs after packs of batteries on this one
5:30 well, technically it is a Gameboy Color game, at least the international version. If you extract the rom from a cartridge and play it on an emulator, or just look at the rom file, it does appear as a Gameboy Color game. Even the 3DS virtual console sells it as a Gameboy Color game.
This. Also, you can just try to change the colors in the Game Boy boot screen when playing on GBC or GBA: it won't let you do that, because it is a GBC game. Every original Game Boy game let's you change the color palette to your liking, but GBC games have fixed palette. So this is technically a dual-mode cart. But it is still a weird Color game, since it has a lot less colors compared to regular GBC games.
22 Years Ago On Christmas Day 1999 I Got Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition During My First Year Of Middle School (1999-2000) Alongside My Best Buddy (Terrence).
I still have my original copy of Yellow. It is permanently saved at the beach house, and every few years I boot it up to take my surfing Pikachu out on the water. I dread the day the internal cartridge battery finally dies and I lose that Pikachu forever.
Apparently there's a Cooltrainer in Victory Road with a Blastoise, but he's skippable so it's easy to go through the game without fighting a Blastoise.
Ahh thank you for clarifying this, I honestly wasn’t sure. But now that statement on the box is even funnier. “Face off against Blastoise’s torrential water guns… from a random Cooltrainer… in Victory Road… maybe…”
@@Maplelust yup, they are both near the end next to each other. One has Venusaur and 2 fully evolved Grass types, the other has Blastoise and 2 fully evolved Water types.
I had Yellow and Blue versions back in 2001, and my older sister would always ask if she could play Pikachu, her way of saying Yellow lol. I miss those days.
I remember getting my copy of yellow because it was bundled with the strategy guide. I also tend to box my pikachu once I get to Celadon Ciity cause jolteon is just better
This was the start of me & my brothers Pokémon journey lol. I got yellow for my birthday in 2000 & my brothers got red and blue all with GBC’s so we never played red & blue with the black and white sprites. It was a bit of shock to see them that way in the virtual console re releases
Thnks for pointing out the differences of Y to R/B. I'll have to purchase it before the shop closes. Hahaha ur rival is Matthew that's a good one. Ah man buying games in Sears, the good ol days.
I did play Pokémon Yellow when I was younger after playing Pokémon Ruby, which the latter was my first Pokémon game. I did get Emerald for whatever reason and still have it and have had the battery replaced. Pokémon Emerald has my favorite Pokémon that I always go out of my way including in my team for Gen 3, 4, and 6. The Ralts line, specifically Gardevoir. The Pokémon always ends up being my ace. I always saw it as an "alien ballerina" as a kid. I was mixed at the Ralts line receiving the Fairy secondary type. Although, steamrolling "scary dragon trainers" makes it worth it.
@@Paraspectre Yeah, my friends at baseball told me pokemon was more than just the anime and cards, and went to Homegoods after baseball practice one day, and saw a pokemon emerald copy the second I walked in and my sister got a horse game for the GBA
Yellow version was dope. I played the fuck out of that Christmas day when I got it. I was 9 yrs old an legit sat on my stairs all day didnt move for hours.
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, Madden 04, and SSX On Tour were all big for me on PS2. Specifically Madden and SSX those soundtracks if played I would say I learned them from the game I heard them so much.
My first also, still have original yellow GBC bundle. Thinking about it I need to check to see if the battery is still viable and copy my old save now that the hardware is easily available. Continue my game 20yrs later. Lol
"Paraspectre will return" makes me think of the end of some Marvel movies haha The Jesse/James Team Rocket sound clip at the end is/was/will always be epic. Love those losers.
Actually pokemon blue is the enhanced version. ( and is the basis for red and blue in the rest of the world outside japan.) Yellow is an enhanced enhanced version
@@Paraspectre Whoops it was just the Japanese Yellow that did not get SGB support and if I recall despite the Western Yellow being a .GBC file its really a super jurry-rigged GB file. Totally forgot that Gold/Silver are also GB games and can be played on the SGB but not Crystal since that is Color ONLY.
Yeah, I now feel really stupid for selling all my old Pokémon games especially now because I got my girlfriend to play through all the Pokémon games for her first time, and I have to buy extra copies of emerald and platinum
Great video! My only suggestion is that the title is "A Pokémon Paraspective 4", but in the thumbnail it says "Part 4". I'd probably suggest sticking to "A Pokémon Paraspective 4", the part 4 made me think i had missed the first 3 parts of the pikachu video and i went looking for them first. Newbies might get confused by the "Part" . Keep up the great work!
Hmm I can see what you mean. My intention is for it to actually be part 4 though, as it’s one whole series. But yeah I can see why you thought it could be part 4 of the Yellow Version…
'spoilers' is a dumb concept for something that's already out always, but especially dumb for something years and years old. just talk about the thing lol.
The point of the Paraspective is more about looking back at the time they were released, box art, my point of view, etc. It’s less about going through the games beat for beat. Those are more for walkthroughs or let’s plays. So I felt it was a safe bet to really only talk about the intros or broad picture stuff, just in case somebody hasn’t played the game
I did the anime pokemon challenge too. Releasing the pokemon and not evolving. That's actually how I learned that non-evolved pokemon learn moves faster.

Maybe look into how to dump the SRAM.
Look up linkara's video about motropolis conversion if you're worried about your file.
I’ve replaced the battery to all of mine already kinda sucks
Wait.. what beach house???
good ol pikachu screamin in all caps before the internet
“PHEEKITCHU”
Note: all Pikachu in Yellow are hardcoded to not evolve.
so, you can't trade in a Pikachu from Red/Blue and evolve it in Yellow.
I actually couldn’t remember this one way or the other. Of course you can just get a Raichu on Red/Blue and trade it over though
You can trade your yellow version Pikachu to Red or Blue, evolve it, and trade it back. I did that as a kid and didn’t regret it!
Thank goodness for no heartbreaking ending on this one
they need to make some kinda regional form of Golbat so we can get a 3d model with the tongue hanging out. that was one of the best sprites :)

really. odd I don't remember that guy.

It's a shame that ditching pikachu after Misty is the best strategy.

I can’t argue with the facts 🤷🏻♂️🍄
Really digging these vids. Excited for the next 60
Pokémon yellow was so good, excited for this video
Wouldnt it be funny if three games called red blue and yellow couldnt be played on the gameboy color
Sounds like modern day video game developer shenanigans
And the 2nd to last video should be called "The Parultimate" video lol
I picked up my first pokemon game (which was emerald) at a home goods store. When I was 6 in 2005. So yeah, sears doesn't seem as weird.

Joshua Griffin does fine work!
Ah Red and Blue, when Snorlax was on par with Pikachu (according to the box art at least)
only 15 seconds into this video but that intro was great
