- In this video tutorial, I show how to flash chip of a router with a programmer. Also, I show how to change MAC address of the router (you can see it at the end of the video).
Why do such flashing:
Such repair procedure can be helpful after wrong or unsuccessful flashing.
I flashed my router because I wanted to go back to an older firmware, but TP-Link blocked it with a firmware lock (error 18005), but with a programmer, I flashed it anyway.
I also show in the video how to change MAC address of the router using a programmer, MAC address stored in the chip so you can easily change it using a programmer.
What programmer did I use:
I programmed my chip with a CH341A programmer

Update: Now, I am happily using OpenWRT with W25Q128FVSIG chip, I upgraded the router's chip from 4MB to 16MB. OpenWRT is much more stable and offers a lot of functionality. And In case I break the firmware I can restore everything with the setting and installed packets in a matter of minutes because the chip is outside, and I have a full dump. Cheers!

I've changed MAC address to 00-11-22-33-44-55 :) you can see it at 09:16, it is the most fun thing that I did using a programmer.
I programed my Archer C20 V4 flash chip and debrick router but there is no MAC Address in both 2.4 and 5 G wireless!!!! which block should I change and set MAC Address?! 0001FC00 ?!!!

Could you tell me why need dumped file ?
I am finding firmware to unbrick dir825g1 ( it has 2 version orange interface and blue-white) so mine was orange and it is very limited then I thought to put blue-white but neither update page nor emergency mode could result then I connected via serial but also nothing after I erased all now my router is blank also deleted uboot!
I am thinking to flash eprom using ch341 ver. 1.34 but when I saw you said that I need dump file everything stopped because I didn't find dumped file for it (dir825g1 it has 4 antenna)
Why did you not use a heatgun? I've desoldered and resoldered several HDD flash chips and it not really hard at all.

I did same way, using dump file. Extracted from working router ( extracted using CLIP) of programmer.
But not booting only two light glowing, one full glowing another half glowing.

I had the same problem.. That means you have overwritten the bootloader. Try using the clips to program with openwrt directly on the board itself. You don't have to remove the chip

Yes, you can, first of all, read the data from the chip and save it in case something will go wrong, then change the MAC address, erase the chip and then flash "full dump" with new MAC address. It is pretty clear shown in the video (in my opinion).

I bricked my router and this is the only way i find to restore it... but I can't find a full dump for TP Link WDR3600 v1.5 router... what could I do? I get on serial console a lot of processing and in the end:
Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance.
i flashed the wrong file, sysupgrade instead of factory... what can i do?

Hi, If the bootloader is ok you can still flash router via UART, I personally didn't try it (because I am too lazy to figure that stuff out) Try to google "Tp-link repair via UART". I recommend trying that first.
I only found full damp for TP-Link WDR3600 v1, I don't know the difference, so I don't know if it works.
P.S. I am not an expert on repairing routers, I just did a video what I did with my router.

I think it's easier to flash to openwrt and flash from openwrt to the old firmware, desoldering a programming it's useful when you bricked the router, and the backup methods like tftp or serial don't work

I did not try to change it but it all should be there, start looking at address 003E0000 and go all the way down (for 4MB full dump).
I use the router as Wi-Fi receiver (so I don't have a password) but I could see a password to the router I connected to.
