  • This week we talk about some of the tips we use for tickling out lobster. Spiny lobster are a popular target in Florida but they can be tough to get out of their hole or ledge. To get them out we use a small fiberglass stick known as a tickle stick. You can use this tool to finesse the lobster out of the hole. You don't want to jab at the lobster but rub under the shell of the lobster where the legs are to bring them out and guide them into your net.

tickler has to be under the belly?

    • @ReelHazardous

Yes! It gets the lobster to walk forward out of the hole or ledge and then you can scoop it up from behind because they can move really fast backwards.

Free diving or tanks? Doesn't count using tickle sticks and nets with artificial air.

We do both. In Florida you can use sticks and nets whether free diving or tanks.

Hey bubba, 15 year lobstering veteran here in Florida. Just wanted to point out (which I’m sure you already know but was just a small mistake during the video) that lobster don’t have tentacles. Only octopus and cuddle fish have tentacles. Lobsters have antennae. 🙃 might want to edit the video and point that out to folks who aren’t as familiar with their anatomy.

Octopuses only have arms. Squid have tentacles, which are the 2 extra long "arms" with the hooked suckers on the end. So squid have 8 arms and 2 tentacles, while octopuses just have the 8 arms. I don't know about cuttlefish. If they have just the 8 arms, they don't have tentacles. If they have 10 "arms", 2 of them are more than likely tentacles.

I thought it was illegal to bug on air. Seems like cheating to me

It depends where you are at. In Florida its legal.
